Tuesdays home match postponed due to unfavourable independent agronomists report. That justifies the switch to Burton. No idea when I’m likely to get to a home game., really fed up.

This could get expensive.

Blimey, I was only trying to be helpful. You had assumed and Shugs had believed.

Wonky - I haven’t mixed up my words, the statement, whilst including the use of the term “administration”, only excludes administration from being on the cards. The rest of my post is information, not speculation, which is in the public domain.

BAGS - I agree with much of what you say about SISU, although I think that the appointment of Mark Robins is a second good thing they have done. I’m not sure that Wasps management are that much “better” though.

Short and to the point from Derek.

The club is solid, there are no plans for CVAs or other financial implements.

No-one can see the future, but projections and forecasts can be made. All this nonsense about crystal balls and so on is just nonsense. The spculation can end, Wasps will be buzzing around (and annoying some people) for the foreseeable.

More than he had to say, but typically for Derek, exactly what was required.

The “statement” is very narrow and excludes only administration. It does not exclude a CVA which is a different process. He does not say the business is solid - annual losses, failure to pay the bond including failing to attract alternative financing and seeking public funds in the form of a £13 grant would suggest otherwise. Bondholders in general do not feel that there has been transparency.

CoDY,

If one is being arranged it’s not a big deal. It’s a way for companies to restructure debt if most creditors agree. It’s designed to stop one or 2 creditors forcing an otherwise sound business in to bankruptcy and asset stripping.

https://www.gov.uk/company-voluntary-arrangements

Thanks for that, BiND - interesting and informative stuff.

However, *if* the CVA rumour is true, I can't agree that it's "not a big deal." It wouldn't necessarily mean that the end was nigh, of course, no matter how loudly some may proclaim otherwise... but it'd still be a big deal insofar as I'm concerned.

This is especially true given that "sound" appears to be the last word one can use (non-sarcastically!) to describe Wasps' business model.

I just wish the Club would get on and say *something* - we're a month away from the start of the season, less time still from the preseason friendlies, and the silence is deafening.

I think I conflated CVA and what used to be called pre-packs. If it is a CVA its not good because although the business is probably sound it puts the onus on paying back creditors rather than investing in the underlying business, so not a good step.

I’m sorry BiND, how can the business be considered sound? Annual losses, unable to repay loans, unable to recruit players, looks like a number of season ticket holders not renewing, unable to maintain the pitch.

Very bad news to see the Sky Blues were smashed last night by Bristol City, playing at Burton. Coventry City clearly have bigger worries with this season’s performances than just the CBSA pitch.

As a young Coventrian, I felt great pride in watching the Sky Blues progress from the 3rd to the 2nd to the 1st Division, so I can imagine how disappointed the current fans must feel not to have been able to cheer on the team at the CBS Arena so far this season.  Clearly a combination of several unfortunate factors, but I do have faith in the owners to resolve the current pitch issues to everybody’s satisfaction. For what it’s worth, I’m still hoping Coventry City can get promotion to the Premiership and fill the Arena week in week out.

But as a Wasps fan too, I’m going to put a bet on that we finish Top 6 and at this stage of the year I can’t see why that would be out reach.

I’ve found in life it’s better to collaborate than live in constant confrontation.

Maybe this post will be too positive for most - but given my recent health issues, I’d hate to snuff it and not to have aired my views on this.

Sorry to hear about your health issues.

An interesting and carefully worded statement. 7s tournaments do not appear to have caused that much pitch damage elsewhere in the UK in the past. Will be interesting to see what, if any, response the football club make - if no response that would be quite telling.

I don’t think I have been using bad language, bad behaviour, trolling (but I don’t really know the precise definition) or abusive to posters. I have a view of matters pertaining to Wasps which is different to the majority of posters on this site: some long standing posters share, or have sympathy, with some of those views. I think Wasps are in financial trouble, CCFC may well be also. Given that view, it amazes me that some posters do seem to either be straw clutching or head in sanding - e.g.it will all be sorted in a few weeks (starting a couple of months ago).

I am sorry if this is viewed badly, but it does seem that Wasps future is largely in the hands of bondholders who have been badly let down. What is said on a fans forum is unlikely to influence them, but repeated negative press might.

Steven Vaughan 10 March 2021

“So there’s two things we’re going to be doing, firstly we’re going to be investing heavily in the maintenance of the pitch.”

“We’re going to be investing in doubling up our lights. We’re going to be doubling up on the amount of staff on there as well.”

“And after the first season of Coventry City being here and the Commonwealth Games, we’re going to be laying an entirely brand-new pitch again.”

Sounds like a commitment that hasn’t been delivered.

What commitment has not been delivered the period after the sevens was not due to finish until 14/08/22 therefore there would have been more time to repair pitch and had a level of regrowth.  But although not mentioned in any report this was cut short at the bequest of CCFC.  I cannot see how Wasps can be held culpable for CCFC's change of plans but then again if looking through sky blue coloured glasses Wasps are guilty of everything. ;D

The commitment to provide a playing surface of a suitable standard, how that was achieved was up to Wasps. The CWG doesn’t alter that commitment. Also, the commitment to lay a new pitch before the start of this football season. Again, how that was to be achieved was up to Wasps. CCFC hasn’t changed plans, other than the first match at home was pushed to Sunday instead of Saturday.

Not disputing the game is more skilful. But more entertaining, more debatable for my money.

I am just old fashioned, I like the modern soccer game to a point, but feel it has lost something, rather like rugby. Difference is I feel the rugby product- higher scoring and more athletic- is better today when it is at its best, compared to the 70s and 80s, even if it has so much has been lost with scrums, player sizes et al.  When it is a its worst, we'll that is a different kettle of fish. Soccer, well much as I enjoy the more skilful game and proper player protection,  I lament the fact that the defenders don't defend and tackling is not the prime task of a defender, especially what was right and left back. The game was just better with inside rights, proper 9s, proper wingers, no win backs, and matches ending 5-3, in short it has lost more from the 80s.
But as ever, each to their own. Totally subjective!

I didn’t say I preferred the game now, can be quite boring at times.

None of this changes the fact that the entire arena was effectively sub-let and remains so for another week. Any judgement based on now is somewhat outside of whatever agreement was made.

If there is an underlying requirement of the arrangement between Wasps and CCFC which doesn’t expressly exclude this situation, that requirement may well remain. None of us know, there will be a discussion, contract lawyers may be consulted. Almost certainly a cock up, wasps probably dint expect the damage, pitch may not have been right beforehand, time will tell.

Speaking with a soccer hat on, I genuinely think the last 20 years obfuscate the fact that for most of the last century we played on mudflats at every level of the game. We also played in conditions that would see the games today called off.

But the game has change enormously, no longer hoofed from the back for the centre forward to win in the air. More possession and higher speed from more highly tuned, and hence more susceptible to injury, athletes.
