Title: Shaun Edwards on Telegraph Rugby Podcast
Post by: Bloke in North Dorset on November 29, 2022, 05:15:22 AM
I haven't listened yet as it's just dropped, but thought those setting out for work might want to download it before they leave.

IT's also worth listening to the Rugbypass offload podcast from last week with Joe Simpson, 1st time I've heard a player be very negative about Eddie Jones.

Just listened to Shaun, entertaining as always. I love the story about how he became a Wasps fan, speaks volumes about the man.

Wow, just listened to Simmo / cannot believe that story about Eddie and the steak and sausages as well as him maybe implying coaches (potentially) going to HR to get out of deals after treatment from Eddie

If that coach was a sausage rather than a steak, Eddie must be a Findus beef/horse burger...

Just listened too. Fxxk me....I'd have been less than impressed by a fake apology and a piss take. Perhaps we see why coaches leave...."He abuses the people who work for him" and HR have to hush it up? The players are fried (you can see it in their play ffs) and "Players have broken sleep for 6 to  weeks of the 6Ns because of anxiety".......wtf???

I'm rarely speechless....but that just confirms the review of a book in Stuff.nz which basically said the same about what he called coaches in front of other people

Time to go

The DT correspondent, Ben Coles, suggests that Jones is likely to be removed next week and replaced by Borthwick

I'm not sure of the rules around the EPS these days, but it's unlikely Borthwick will make major changes to the overall squad selection.

I still expect Farrell to be Captain
I still expect Many to be selected if he's fit
Borthwick may favour Ben Youngs too

That being said, I would think that he'd want a proper back row, rather than 3 locks

And a proper back three.....Tigers have Watson, Steward and Potter for themselves....

Part of all team coaching is person management and OF is a hard one as without any pressure at IC, he's probably  more than useful. (I personally think Sam Hill at Sale has had his best season in ages and oddly looking just what England might need - but for another day!) But OF plays best with Ford at 10, someone not afraid to tell him where to get off.

So in part, Borthwick would need to make v few changes - but have a starting XV that plays more like a team and less like a set of nervous newbies that met in the car park (to exaggerate rather!)

England are playing as less than the sum of their parts. But a change to a unit of a backrow and a better back three, playing to strengths at set piece, and you have a team that's v hard to beat. And not one trying to be something they're not.

Eddie tweaked a little to turn Bomber's  lads into Slam champs. This lot have potential, for sure.

Just need Two locks, a balanced back row and a bloke at the helm whose default mode is not Eddie.

This is the most irritating thing about the entire situation.  We have the talent, the money, the backing and yet we're a shambles where neither fans nor pundits can see what we're trying to do, or any evidence of genuine progression since that 2019 semi-final.

None of the players ever come out and try to suggest what they were actually trying to do, just how/where they got beaten which is largely blindingly obvious.
