Wasps Rugby Discussion / Launchbury
« on: February 05, 2019, 11:56:07 AM »
Like all of us, I would have liked to see Joe playing at the weekend. Is he not yet quite fit (as opposed to being injured and off for weeks)? I ask because a throwaway by Danny Care on Radio 4 this morning suggested he was not quite fit, but Danny hoped he would be by the next game? It was just the phrase he used, 'Joe Launchbury's not far off.' Not far off being match fit?

It was at 29 minutes 19 seconds in to the Today program.

Lovely day for a return to form? Shame I haven't got a ticket. Don't fancy sitting on my own, but if any Waspies have a spare (unused ticket), I am sure I can find some spare cash from a drawer somewhere. I don't live far from Sixways, so a late deal is on (PM me or ask me to PM you with my mobile). And yes, I know I could simply buy one from the TO, but that could leave me sitting with a bunch of Warriors fans.

The match was supposed to be played in Aylesbury, but, the weather being what it is, it has been moved to Warwick School, at 1:30PM

I'll be there.

Wasps are emailing ST holders with an invite like they did last season. A good time we had last year (Mark and I).

Wasps Rugby Discussion / OT: Will Goodrick-Clarke off to Irish?
« on: January 25, 2019, 09:12:48 AM »
Who you say? TBF, I taught him, and his brother Olly, a few years back. A fit, fast and fair size unit he was even then. He now plays TH prop for Richmond (and has scored for them and got at least one MOTM - quite unusual for a prop), but lived in Blockley (and has two other brothers - poor mum had three boys!!). She has added London Irish to her Twitter account now as well! I think the other two boys were Olly and Jamie, from memory.

Do we need any tightheads? He also happens to be very articulate and intelligent (not that I am saying props are not always so, hehe). He was also in Gloucester Academy in his early days, who recruited him from Stow rugby club (a good club with quite a few lads who ended up in that academy).

Blockley is only 45 minutes drive to the Old Leamingtonians ground, ten minutes further to Broadstreet.

An interview with him here:

Beautiful sunrise of orange under the clouds, but a bit chilly outside. Change of plan today as my father is ill so won't be coming, so in the car will be BG (Bryan), Heathen (Jong) and me (Trevor).

Would love to see a great defense and the team getting it together. Sadly, Lima has yet another 12/13 combo outside him.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Player Injuries
« on: January 09, 2019, 02:51:33 PM »
Released today:

https://www.premiershiprugby.com/2018-2019/professional-rugby-in-england-taking-action-on-player-injuries/

The agenda is in points 2-4.

Point 2 seems to suggest that the main focus remains in head/concussion injuries. In particular, accidental high tackle = penalty, reckless = yellow and deliberate = red. Is there also a hint towards the acceptance of 'below the shoulder' as being the rule (have the SH games been ruling this way this season)?

Point 3 seems to suggest that their research shows a lot of training injuries. With Sale having 'no contact' training (or whatever) and coincidentally the lowest injury rate, will teams be encouraged to adopt the Sale training model? In particular, the England training camp, which is heavily contact focused, also seems to have a lot of injuries.

Point 4 looks again at artificial pitches. It seems to suggest boot and stud design might be a factor. I am less than convinced it is. All the boot makers have various designs to cope with different pitches. Looks like they are trying to avoid the conclusion that fully artificial pitches and not suitable for contact based rugby (but probably OK for non contact training).
