Wasps Rugby Discussion / England 6 nations squad
« on: January 17, 2024, 10:23:20 AM »
Forwards: Ollie Chessum, Dan Cole, Alex Coles, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Chandler Cunningham-South, Ben Curry Theo Dan, Alex Dombrandt, Ben Earl, Ellis Genge, Jamie George (capt), Joe Heyes, Nick Isiekwe, Maro Itoje, Joe Marler, Beno Obano, Tom Pearson, Ethan Roots, Will Stuart, Sam Underhill.

Backs: Oscar Beard, Danny Care, Elliot Daly, Fraser Dingwall, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, George Ford, Tommy Freeman, George Furbank, Ollie Lawrence, Alex Mitchell, Tom Roebuck, Henry Slade, Fin Smith, Marcus Smith, Ben Spencer, Freddie Steward.

Nice to see a few new faces but, no Alfie is a surprise. Think its a bit early for Feyi-Waboso IMO. is Dan Cole really the best option?
Plenty of talking points but the key things for me are:
1. How many of the new faces will actually play?
2. Will the game plan be adjusted so those exciting players can show what they can do rather than just chasing George Ford spiral bombs all game?

Christian Wade was warming up with the rest of the R92 squad & looked in god nick. Would love to see him playing in the prem again.
Thomas Young looked really good after some time out injured for Cardiff. Two tries & hasn't lost any of his speed!

The stats show Alfie has played 50 matches & has 4 yellow cards.
One straight red while playing for England u20 that really was stupid.

For a player that is all about contact & physicality, he's always going to get a few tackles wrong.

What mistakes does he keep making?

Yellow and red card ones!

Well according to the stats Sundays cards were his first of either colour for the season, so hardly mistakes that he keeps making....

Its shown in full on the DT Today thread.

'A stadium bigger than the 02 in our tiny village?
This is a slightly disingenuous comment. Its proposed to build this within spitting distance of the M25 & M20. Anything within the M25 is a suburb of London these days not not a rural part of the Garden of England.
That said, pretty much the rest of the article is justified objections, especially the traffic issues. Although you do wonder if some of the objections are focusing on Wasps rather than the huge new build estate planned for the rest of the site which will have a daily impact on the area. Easier to object about a stadium than supposed affordable housing!

Its hard to disagree with much of that TBH. Many of the issues mentioned are glaringly obvious, especially the traffic already present on a regular basis
However, trying to paint that area of Kent inside the M25 as some kind of peaceful rural paradise is patently untrue.

Think there will need to be some serious hearts & minds if this is to come off (or just some serious cash in the councils pockets!!). Not sure setting up in a new area & p1ssing off all the locals, again, is the best way to go.

I'm with you LWasp. If such dealings had been done by say, Sarries, plenty of people on here would be shouting about shady business deals etc etc.
But it was Derek, who can do no wrong even when he presided over Wasps going out of business, probably for good.

Derek saved Wasps & had a vision for a future which sadly didn't work out, but that doesn't mean he is not culpable for its demise.

Interesting.
No legal or business expert, but if funding was refused because the investment vehicle was based in Malta, not sure how having voting rights & control etc would have made any difference. Except perhaps it could have been moved somewhere else with a better financial reputation (& thus got extra funding) but because Derek had lost control he couldn't?

Burger Odendall started for Saints for the first time at the weekend. Looked OK in a fairly exciting back line.

I am with Heathen on this. Both leagues looking interesting, as is the URC, who would have had Bennetton in second place half way through the season?

Granted its a different type of interesting without a team I actually support, but interesting all the same.

Possibly Bryony Cleall, she is forwards transition coach at Quins as well as still playing?

Possibly. I will have to look back over the game & check!
Not sure why she would be wearing a Wasps hat given she was only there for about half a season....

Its an oval stadium so has quite larger areas between the pitch & the seats on all sides. I think one side has some extra seating in that space?
All seats are reasonable view in IMO.
