Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: The Future
« on: September 20, 2023, 01:35:08 PM »
It has always been my understanding that working alongside Chris Holland, there has been the likes of Scrivs, Kenny Logan, Chris Braithwaite and others with the potential for negotiating different levels of investment depending on what the RFU "allow" or the "powers that be" come up with in terms of "Prem 2" and pathways within the league structures going forward.
Understandably no one will commit any significant levels of longer term investment into a new club/company until they know what this looks like for their survival or progression.
The current RFU debacle and some negative feeling around some "issues" with the World Cup doesn't exactly make that position any easier right now.
There is also the "legal cloud" of the concussion issues surrounding the whole game as well that could potentially cause some "institutional" investors/sponsors to be very cautious about getting involved at this moment in time until that starts to get "resolved" in some way?
All in all, lots of things to start getting resolved before we will have a team to watch and cheer on once again, but hopefully we will get there.
Given the time that has elapsed, I'd rather wait and be as sure as possible that there is a good future to look forward to for everyone concerned be they investors, sponsors, fans, players, coaches and all the support staff.
I have really missed the week to week involvement and excitement with Wasps, but sort of got used to it now and can't find any interest or feeling with any other games really.
I'm pleased to read about our "old" players and coaches doing well, but still hope that we will come back and I can hopefully get that enjoyment (and frustration!) back again as it was great to be a part of it. :)

Good to be back!

Has anything happened while we were away? :)

+1

As a fellow "Old Coventrian" he was my favourite player growing up and my "inspiration" to want to play the game.

I watched him many times as a teenager at Coundon Road in what was a tremendous Coventry Team at the time and he seemed a lovely man as well.

He was also sublime in the Ba-Ba's v AB game.

DD, LBND and Wadey remain my top 3 favourite players of all time.

Presumably Owen and Mauro are "Marquee" so outside of the cap?

.....or would that be the Vunipola brothers?

.....or Jamie George and Alex Goode?

I presume they are still allowed 2 "Marquee's" as they would be historical and before the "cuts"?

I agree about Adam he was a very decent guy and did a lot of hard and good work for the club. I know he was absolutely gutted when it all fell apart at the end.

I was always a 100% supporter of Derek, but I feel that he needs to speak out and tell us all the truth and then we can make out own judgements on the facts as we all trusted him.

I don't disagree that he probably didn't have enough money in the end to ride it through, but if wrong or ill informed decisions were made as well then it doesn't matter how much money you have, it will eventually run out at some stage.

I still think that Covid and the subsequent Economic/War situation is the main reason for Wasps problems as without that we wouldn't have taken on even more debt and would (most likely) have been able to refinance the bond as well.

To be honest I'm not sure how much of a say Stephen Vaughan got on some of the "big" decisions. He did some good Commercial Deals, was a good promoter of the club and a decent guy in my opinion.

However (as with vetoing the bid and his repayments from the bond) I think Derek did what Derek wanted to and as he owned 98% (via Moonstone I think) then who could stop him?

I have been told that Derek owed money to Chris Holland and the Training Ground situation may have been part of that maybe as a settlement?

I've not met Chris Holland, but do have a business contact who has dealt with him in the past and says that he is a decent guy so unless I know any different, I'd take that at face value as being genuine.

+1 - Charlie is already an absolute star in my eyes as are both Willis brothers.

To get Tom back would be great - if that works for his career?

Think Tim has already signed somewhere for next year? he is in Australia for 6 months, but a smart lad so think he will have something "sorted".

To say that I don't care who wears the shirt is wrong because I do - massively, but I will put my trust in The Legends to deliver the best that they can in terms of coaches and players and then it is down to us to back them next season because what we have all gone through as fans has been horrible (and much worse for the players and staff as well).

Whilst I wouldn't be against Lee returning if he wanted to and that would assist with some 'former' players returning, the suggestions regarding Neil Fowkes might be good with his Championship experience?
Not sure if Richard Blaze has a new position as yet either?
However, I was at the Coventry v Richmond game yesterday and the 2 injured Coventry players who did the pre match Q & A were absolutely "gushing" about the ability and quality that Ed Robinson has added as a coach since he joined them a few weeks ago.
I think he was also well liked by the Wasps lads as well and seemed to be a well-liked member of the backroom staff.
Players-wise I think it will depend on what the overall top divisions structure looks like and how likely we may be to step straight back into the Prem given Budgets etc?
The EPIC is a big draw and I'd love to see some of the recent Academy prospects come back and maybe the likes of Cruse, Harris, Morris, Curran, Spink, Wusty, West, Millar Mills, Crossdale, Frosty, radon Wood, Hartley, Nearchou maybe even Jacob?
Interesting times? :)

Always had faith that The Legends would deliver the best possible outcome for us all if anyone could given the very trying circumstances.
I know there have been lots of hurdles to overcome and in my opinion, they all deserve our best support going forward.
It would be great to see some "old" faces back and also some new talent, but it will be tough I'm sure to start with.
Great news to start the weekend and Christmas week with. :)

I have heard from a couple of sources that he hadn't been as "co-operative" as he could have been, but think this has been resolved now.

I've always seen myself as a "glass half full" person, but the last few weeks have definitely tested me.

I'm 100% sure that The Legends people absolutely have the best intentions of the club at heart, but if the RFU are putting time and financial deadlines in place that are unrealistic in the current climate and if so maybe have their own "agenda" behind this that might not be good for us.

I think it may be 50:50, but that is only my opinion and not based on any direct factual knowledge at this moment in time.

I haven't heard anything "negative" from Frasers Group re Wasps playing at the CBSA, but neither have I heard anything positive (unlike CCFC comments yesterday) so again not sure how that impacts on the previous RFU statement about being in the Championship if we continue to be based where we were before Administration.

I genuinely don't know how much 'Financial Clout" the Legends Consortium has behind it, but I assume that they wouldn't have gone into this without some knowledge of what it entailed in terms of cost.

I'm just off to fill the other half of my glass up as definitely time for a beer. :)

There's still hope until there is none left.

I know that The Legends are working behind the scenes on plans, but also think they haven't been "helped" by either the RFU or Derek.

I presume that the RFU will have timelines in place and no doubt will need to plan for next season even at this stage of the current season, but a little bit of "consideration" would be nice.

As I'm born and bred in Coventry I have followed Coventry from the Duckham/Rossborough era and did used to go along and have usually been to 2 or 3 games a season when Wasps haven't been playing. However with the sad decline of the club, I have followed Wasps since 1993 when I first saw Dallaglio play and to say that I was personally delighted when they moved to Coventry was an understatement.

However I do absolutely respect all Wasps fans views and totally understand that being based in Coventry certainly wasn't everyone's cup of tea.

We went to the first game in Coventry and then became season ticket holders after that and have also regularly followed the club up and down the country and several away games in Europe and enjoyed the friendly welcome at every ground I have been to (apart from Welford Road obviously).

I will still go to some Coventry home games later this season hopefully, but I would not go and watch any other Premiership game as it doesn't mean anything to me at this moment in time and like many on here I haven't even bothered watching on TV either.

God knows how the RFU or PRL think any die hard Wasps Fans are suddenly going to become Tigers Fans is totally beyond me!

Not so long ago I was looking forward to Charlie lining up alongside Olly Hartley as they are best mates going way back (and I think were living together in Leamington).

Now they are lining up against each other tomorrow!
