Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: ACL Updates?

Or was he trying to hold out for bigger offer and that wasn't credible and then it was too late?

I don't think any "offers" were cut and dried, but I still don't understand why if something was on the table, all the board didn't vote to go down that line and try to seal the deal even if it ended up not happening for whatever reason?

There seems to be a lot of "anger" amongst some senior figures behind the club on this and other frustrations also.

As a fan, supporter, season ticket holder and sponsor all I want too know is the truth and hopefully a way forward of some description.

The longer we go on without this, the more speculation there will be which probably isn't "healthy" for anyone (apart from certain parts of the press maybe)? :)

If true, this does beg the question (even more so) as to why Derek vetoed the £60 million offer?

I know that we don't have the full facts as public knowledge and have met Derek on several occasions and thought him to be a genuine and passionate rugby/wasps man, but I don't understand some of the things that have happened if that was the case and  if the "board" could have avoided being where we are right now, why they didn't?

What I have been told was nothing to do with SISU or CCFC just in case anyone was thinking that by the way.

Nothing since we last spoke in mid week other than that there were more meetings and negotiations happening last week.

I think the "Legends Consortium" are having to negotiate some "unnecessary" obstacles along the way potentially.

I was also told then that the Times was "all over the story" so may be more to come?

In terms of how accurate it is, I'm only putting 2 and 2 together, but a certain former Wasps Captain (and potentially our greatest ever player) also happens to write for the same paper and was also a Director of the company so maybe that does add some credence to the story and source possibly?

......on the other hand some journalists have been known to make 2 + 2 equal something other than 4?

Whilst I think we all need to know the full facts before we make any judgements, I have had the same comment of "this didn't have to happen" from two separate parties over the last few weeks.

One is a highly respected "Legend" and one a senior member of Wasps Staff pre Administration for a number of years.

I was also told that a deal was "on the table" back in May/June, but don't know the full details so that may not have been "acceptable" at the time?

Something doesn't add up to me about all this and as Fans/Season Ticket Holders/Sponsors etc, I think we do deserve a proper explanation sooner rather than later?

I understand that negotiations are still very much "ongoing" with Legends and that a number of "legalities" need to be sorted also.

If the DCMS/Government/HMRC are starting to play "hardball" with other Premiership Rugby Clubs (as Exeter's recent actions would suggest) then surely the RFU and PRL will have to act and look at the whole future of the top of club rugby.....and quickly (if they can do that)?

Pleased for Launchers that he's hopefully got something sorted as I'd heard that from a reliable source last week as well.

It's a bit of an upheaval for his family though even if "short term".

I still feel desperately upset for all of the players and staff with what they are having to go through although pleased that some of them are starting to find some alternatives now.

It would have been hard to see such a wasps Legend as Joe in another Premiership team's colours (not that I'm watching any of those games at the moment anyway)!

Hopefully Jack will get some game time this afternoon so will try and catch that maybe.

I don't know what discussions may or may not have taken place, but I do know that Wasps were aware of Ashley's interest way before all of this so I presume some dialogue may well have taken place (dependant on what the final outcome may be).

I also understand that the Freehold stipulates the land/stadium is for sporting use so if Ashley has bought the Lease, he would have to honour that.

As he is looking to build his new HO just up the road in Ansty, I presume that he'd want to keep the council on his side for any planning "issues" that might crop up at that site so offering a "sporting home" to those that want it would make sense to me.

However, we are talking business and pretty "big bucks" so common sense may not apply, but you would hope it would for everyone's sake.

After all the vast majority of the local (and wider) community and sports fans just want to enjoy their day out with their families and friends and be entertained.

I understand that a number of bids have been made but not sure if they all rely on going into Administration?
Press speculation that these are bids from NEC and Ashley, but at least one other I think (I don't know if SISU have also bid to make that 4).
I presume that the Administrator now has to evaluate the offers and choose a "preferred" bidder in the same way as they did with Wasps Rugby and then the bidder has to "deliver" on their plans ASAP after that?
I think it is a stipulation from the Council Freehold that sports have to be played at the stadium so I presume that the site can't be "bulldozed" for housing or shops so I would think that any owner would want as much "sports and leisure usage" as possible for their investment?

So sad to see Charlie go (especially given where he has ended up), but totally understand that he has to make the best move for his career and wish him all the very best for the future.

We have been his sponsors for last season and this (so may be a bit biased) :) but I think he's probably the most mature, respectful and thoughtful 21 year old I have ever met as well as being a fabulous rugby talent.

Like many on here I just can't face watching rugby at the moment without wasps, but Charlie's Dad has promised to take me to watch him (somewhere away from Welford Road) when the time is right, which to me embodies the spirit of rugby.

I don't know personally, but I have been informed that nearer to £1 million would be a typical salary expense in the Championship.

In general squads are smaller (Coventry have 32 players listed in their first team squad and 7 Development) and there are quite a few Premiership Loanees at some clubs (as we knew with Wasps) and I think there are only say 3 or 4 fully "full time professional clubs" (although there may be more that that now).

Lots of things to fall in to place I know but at least things seem to be happening and "good" people are trying.

Not sure, but I think the preferred option would be Coventry at the moment as a lot of the facilities are here but will depend on who gets their hands on the stadium and if they want Wasps there.

Would make sense if they are still to use the training centre and can re-sign some players and coaches/staff as they will all be local as well.

Resetting up the Academy would also be a key for the future of the club.

Not all of the "Legends" are London based anymore to be fair and the business would be a lot cheaper to run in Coventry than in London as long as they could get the Funding support.
