Wasps Rugby Discussion / ACL Updates?
« on: October 25, 2022, 11:07:08 AM »
The following was posted on another link on Oct 17.

"So we're learning that the operating company that runs the CBS Arena, ACL, looks likely to avoid going into administration, as a new notice of intention to appoint administrators was filed today. This will give them 10 days of grace to get their house in order."

I presume that this will therefore expire on Thursday and they can they then apply for a further 10 days as Wasps Holdings did if they wish to before an Administrator would need to be appointed?

I spoke to someone yesterday who formerly held a senior position at Wasps and I understand that "talks" are ongoing regarding Wasps Rugby, but I presume that these are also "linked" with what may happen to the Arena in due course as well?

It looks like things will "rumble on" for a while yet, but if anyone has any positive news that would be very welcome.

I understand that Charlie got the call last week so not solely down to Farrell's HIA Protocols I think.
I believe that Charlie has had a number of approaches (not surprising really), but I guess he'll need to make a decision that gives him a bit of "security" (as he's only just 21) and also gives him the chance to keep in the frame for England now he's getting these opportunities.
Such a shame it probably won't be with Wasps (certainly in the short term) as I think we had the makings of a really good team given the quality of some of the younger players, a good smattering of experience and some strong Academy prospects to come through as well!

Hi Wonky, mine came through today as well for Charlie.

I actually opened the letter around the time that he was confirmed as being called up to the England Training Squad and listed as "unattached"!

Based on the season's sponsorship, I'm still feeling quite "attached" to him! :)

Very well deserved though and absolutely wish him all the best going forward from a personal point of view as he's a terrific guy and a wonderful player (top family as well).

Hi Wonky, we must have met at some stage as this is our second season sponsoring Charlie Atkinson and we sponsored Will Rowlands for 3 seasons prior to that.

At least our sponsorship has been via my business so less of a "personal" blow, but very "frustrating" nonetheless.

We have also become good friends with Charlie's parents as well and I won't put anything personal on here, but to say that Charlie was "in bits" when it all happened is an understatement.

I have followed Wasps since 1993 (when I watched Loz, Hopley and Sheasby play in the England sevens side that won the World Cup) and became a season ticket holder when they moved to Coventry (where I have lived nearly all of my life).

We have made some great friends through Wasps and had some wonderful days (and some painful ones), but I would not swap those experiences for anything other than to be still be doing it now and again in the future.

They have already been canvassing Wasps' club and player sponsors as well this week!

Shocking behaviour from a "fellow" Premiership Rugby Club in times like this for Wasps Fans - exactly why I have always hated them as a club back from the 90's.

Why on earth would a true Wasps Fan want to go and watch Tigers?

If that's their attitude, I hope they enjoy the lost revenue coming their way from no home games for the next few weeks!!

I was told last week (from the same source who mentioned the MA interest) that it was Falcons and Glaws.

Irish and Tigers also "up for sale" apparently.

If Ashley was to happen and keep the whole club/stadium/hotel/casino/exhibition/offices package together, the amount he'd need to spend on a rugby squad to be successful (as stated above) is "peanuts" to what Newcastle was in the Premier League or even the Championship to get out off that.

If the NEC Group are interested, then that indicates to me that the other "business interests" at the CBS have a genuine business potential for investors aside from rugby.

Lots to come out over the next few days, but at least things seem to be happening.

Nemo was in the warm up as a "travelling reserve" along with Oghre, Hougaard, Van Vuuren and Paulo (I think) on Sunday so I would think he is most likely recovered and available otherwise he probably wouldn't have travelled?

Hope so anyway!

They looked pretty confident in the first half on Sunday........

Even in the first few minutes of the second half until we dropped the ball........

I like Crossdale at FB. Yes he's made the odd mistake, but also scored some good tries as well.

Yes - he is quick (don't just need pace on the wing) and we need to back him and be positive (see the difference in England Cricket's approach)!

Josh is as good as most in the prem at making hard yards and finishing and especially in defence (good in the air).

Paulo can give "something different" on the other wing potentially?

Mehson has had some good moments going forward, but looked a bit unsure defensively against Dragons (and their wingers were quick)!

I agree that Zach looks a bit "out of sorts" sometimes and likes his "signature" chip and chase, but sometimes you just wish he'd back himself one on one to beat his man ball in hand (maybe that is a "confidence" thing)? Or maybe we just got so used to Wadey doing that for fun? :)

Hopefully everything goes well for Kenny and his family.

Legend and Top Bloke!

I've heard him speak very well about his dyslexia issues as well so a great inspiration to many people I think.

I'm definitely thinking from his story and other comments that I need to get this checked as well as the big six zero is coming up next year!

Had a good chat with one of Wasps "back room" staff today who was very positive about a lot of the points that we have all been a bit "concerned" about.

Hopefully quite a bit of "positive news" to be released up to the start of the season.

Also it seems that Jacob's injury isn't as bad as first thought so really hope that is the case for his and everyone else's sake as well.

The players have all had their photo's done and had a day at a water park and Stookie is walking OK so presumably starting rehab on a similar basis to Jack, Launchers and Theo last year.

Looking forward to the season now!
