Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Squad 22/23

If we can avoid serious injuries in the pack (famous last words!) then I think that looks pretty strong especially the Stooke is back.

I agree re Tim (Cardall) as he and Theo have a good opportunity in the first few weeks. I don't know much about McDonald, but he is experienced so should be decent as well.

Back row looks very strong at this stage.

If the backs can get decent quick ball there are some good options there. A fit and confident Dobbie and Porter are a very good mix.

If we can "gel" and get some confidence early on it could be interesting.

Yes - there are question marks around the centres as we haven't seen Odendaal at all or much of Mills, but then neither have the Oppo either.

Great to have Ashley back.

This is great news for us and for the young Academy guys coming through as well.

Not only has he experienced different rugby cultures, he's also played Internationally and in both the front and back rows so has a mass of rugby knowledge to call upon and pass on.

He's also a top bloke and has time for everyone so I'm sure he will boost all the squad and back room staff as well as well as us fans.

Based on that kick assist from our own 22 for Wadey a few years back, he might take on some "kicking coaching" from Jimmy as well!

There may have been some "difference of opinion" when Paul left, not sure really, but he is a Freelance Journalist (or certainly was for a while after he left) so articles of this nature (and certainly the headline) will get him noticed I guess?

I think he does also work with/for Coventry Rugby as well (reports and match day commentaries I think)?

I have loads of respect for him and he does at times have strong opinions (which he absolutely entitled to) and the article is correct factually I would think, but you can take different views on different aspects as well.

It will certainly take time for Wasps to keep developing the local fanbase, but the recent Academy promotions and the building of the Training Centre are strong bases to work from in my opinion.

The return of Ash is just another part of this as well.

Personally I'd prefer to pay to see Wasps developed players with a real feel for what the club is about performing well at first team and International level (hopefully) than a team full of overseas players that don't always perform to their perceived "value" every week.

A good blend and mix is what we all want to see I think, but I am excited about some of Wasps' young players coming through alongside a couple of "gnarled old pro's" up front.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Wade to Exeter - TRP Rumour

Like many others have already said, I'd welcome Wadey back with open arms.

His attitude both on and off the pitch was one of the things that "sold" Wasps to both me (and especially) my wife when the club first moved up to Coventry (although I had been a fan before then).

You could sense in the crowd that whenever he got the ball, something very special could (and quite often did) happen.

I know that we had some other mercurial talents around him as well (Cips/Daly/Beale/Piutau), but I'm sure that if he came back he would help to ignite a spark in some of the talent we have got now and also what is coming through as well.

Wadey was down to be "inducted" into the Wasps Legends Hall of Fame at the Dinner last month at the CBS, but then wasn't?

One of the "conditions" of that is that you need to be retired from Rugby for at least 2 years - so maybe that tells you something? (I wish)!

I think that Wasps Legends did release a short highlights reel at the time that brought back so many wonderful memories, so if he was up for it (and we could afford him) I would absolutely go for it. His running talent is so natural and he'd probably be physically bigger and quicker and it wouldn't take him long to "get back up to speed" with Union.

I think Charlie will be fit and hopefully we will put a strong side out as we need to keep the momentum going for League and also Europe right through to the end of the season.

First thoughts are that is strong team for a mid week game, but I guess some players need some game time.

Great to see Theo and Kieran out there and I will be interested to see how both go as I think they have loads of potential.

Always good to see the likes of Nemo, Rob Miller, Ben Morris, Tim Cardall, Wusty and JTA as well as they are loyal, wholehearted and very honest players for Wasps.

Hopefully the fans will also give a warm welcome to Kieran's lad as well.

Probably the first Sarries player I will have applauded for a long time!

To be honest, I'm quite happy with Ogre and Frost as hookers...and Cruse when he's fit again.

I think we've also got some more exciting young talent coming through in this position as well?

I agree that Tom Willis is a fabulous young No 8 as well as Alfie, but we've also got Nemo as well who deserves a place in the 23 also!

Compared to where we were a few months ago it is almost an "embarrassment of riches" to be able to rest/rotate players and I think it shows where we probably could have been with a reasonably fit squad over the season.

I really hope it is a good game tomorrow and we click as a team so everyone can get behind them.

Surely as long as the players have a chance of making the top 4, then they will "believe" that they can as professionals?

I agree that top 6 or 8 should be achievable, but if Top 4 did happen then we'd be carrying a lot of momentum into those games (much like Quins last season).

There's still a lot of points to play for and many teams all pretty close together.

I know that some teams will be getting International players back, but don't they still have to sit out some games before the end of the season based on International Game Time as that was always the case before?

It will be an interesting few weeks certainly.

I love these new contract extensions for our young Academy lads.

Really pleased for all of them (and hopefully even more to come).

Hopefully, with the progress and development of other former Academy players (Jack & Tom Willis, Alfie, Charlie, Jacob, Will, Tom West, Tim, Sam and Kieran) they can all see a pathway forward with Wasps and also with the local community and area.

Yes, it's great to see the odd "Superstar Signing", but in truth they haven't all come off for us.

However developing the Academy and local rugby talents will also keep growing the fan base (along with success on the pitch) and a consistent entertaining style of rugby for us all to enjoy and support.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Report that Jimmy off.
« on: January 28, 2022, 07:55:29 AM »
I think I tend to agree with the comments above.

Jimmy has been a tremendous player for Wasps and having met him and chatted on several occasions, he's an absolutely Top Bloke and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.

Initially when the "rumour" emerged, it was definitely a case of "anywhere but there Jimmy", but he has totally earned our respect as Wasps Fans and supporters and I will take his decision (whatever it is) and genuinely wish him well.

It doesn't feel the same as it did in my youth (as a Coventry Rugby Fan) when Tigers "nicked" all of the talent from our city (Back, Buttimore, Garforth etc) and then didn't play a style of rugby (in my opinion) that we had become used to when watching the great Coventry side with Duckham, Preece, Rossborough etc.

Maybe my dislike of Tigers could be an underlying reason for my initial support of Wasps (in the Dallaglio era) long before the club moved up to Coventry? :)

If Jimmy does go (and that looks increasingly likely) how good would it be for him to sign off with a trophy at the end of a very long and taxing season?

I understand that there is a training camp next week in Brighton for 5 days, but not sure which players will be allowed back to play next weekend for their clubs before heading to the main training base for 6N the week after?
Hopefully Alfie will be allowed to play next week as he is missing this week (especially if he can't train "fully" at the start of the week due to finishing HIA)?
I hope he gets a real "shout" with England for 6N as he absolutely deserves it, but like may other fans also hope he doesn't get "broken" by Mental Eddie!
To me the team looks set up to play some attractive rugby in a true Wasps style so could be a very interesting game as long as we can secure decent ball in set piece.

Hi Bloke In North Dorset. I'm new to the Forum, but wanted to let you know that we live in a village near Leamington Spa and there is a good pub in our village where the Landlord encourages Camper Vans to stop overnight in the car park.
Decent beer and good food as well.
There are a number of season ticket holders in the village so we share lifts and mini bus if a special occasion and in Hospitality.
Happy for you to get in touch if you need more info.
