Title: We've bought season tickets to watch ....
Post by: RogerE on August 19, 2023, 04:38:08 PM
Wasps Women.

Well actually it's to watch Trailfinders Women, but it is Wasps Women in all but name. The head honcho is Giselle Mather, and most of the players thay have signed are ex-Wasps.

No the green side  ;)

It's a way of getting the Premier Rugby fix without having to support one of Clubs that I refuse to support.

Did Abby Dow sign on for Ealing?

Did Abby Dow sign on for Ealing?

Yes - but then was awarded a central contract so not sure what is happening about her.

She's still listed as a Trailfinders player on their player list.

Wasps Women are still in existence, just not playing in the Premier 15s.

Most of their best players have left for other prem clubs, but they are still going!

The England players on central contracts still turn out for their clubs, that's not changed. Obviously England duties take precedence and with the Autumn matches v Canada and the new WXV competition it will be a while before any Red Roses players turn out for their clubs in the league but then the Women's Premiership is starting late this season anyway.

I'm also planning to follow Ealing ladies, I'm pretty sure there'll be a decent showing of Wasps merch in the crowd.

Same could be said for the men.

Not really, Wasps Women have:
   a ground to play at
   a team
   coaches
a league place - NC1 South East (North) league.
   a future!

Wasps men have:
   a badge
   a history
   err.....

When I said Wasps men, I was referring to the "professional" side that exists purely on paper & in the imaginations of the Legends (not that the Legends are to blame for that!), not the amateurs of Wasps RFC playing at Twyford avenue.

Hope I've cleared that up....

Wasps amateur club is Wasps FC not Wasps RFC

Sorry if that is pedantic but they are/were two different clubs

When I referred to Wasps men, I meant the only Wasps men's team that is actually out there playing rugby at any level, professional or otherwise. FC / RFC are indeed 2 different clubs, only one of which currently exists in any meaningful form, the other as you said is a stack of paperwork, a bunch of dusty old trophies and the increasingly forlorn looking hopes and dreams of a great many people.
