Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Pat Lam's Views on Salary Cap

''Lots of problems to iron out ''

With the main one being the fact the RFU hates the championship, has no time for it and would likely rather it just went away

And for all this talk about him being such an amazing world cup coach with a master plan, he's been to two finals as head coach and lost them both.

Mehson scored a try for Scottish on Saturday against caldy for their first league win of the year (playing 14 with cam Anderson ex of this parish at 15).

Has there been any word on how the championship view this?

They may have us, worcester and another relegated team next season, without anyone getting promoted.

Would they just relegate 3 teams to make space for us?
I assume they have the right to refuse us entry to the championship?

Can't imagine that going down well with the 2 additional clubs relegated if they did that!

I can't see it being remotely practical for another club to be relegated from the premiership this season with 2 clubs having already gone pop. Surely just a matter of time before they announce that.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Offer from Ealing Trailfinders

Ealing reminded me of Wasps a couple of seasons ago - we don't care how many tries you score, we'll score more.

They're clearly far too good for the championship, in a weird limbo between the two leagues. As a supporter of another championship club I normally skip the ealing games - you know they'll pump you by 50 points (as they do week in week out to everyone really) and it's pretty predictable fare.

I'm just hoping that in whatever guise, we continue to play on.  Ideally with as much of our supremely talented, largely young squad intact.  The latter is a huge longshot, more than the likelihood of survival itself.

I can accept a year in the Championship if our new owners can too.  In fact, long weekends in Jersey and Penzance could be fun for a change of scenery and Ealing, Richmond, London Scottish all in close proximity.  Ampthill, Bedford and Coventry all similar distances for us.

Makes it quite awkward for those of us in London who became regulars at Championship clubs post the Coventry move, as 'cant support a team that would play Wasps!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: What can we do help the cause?
« on: October 16, 2022, 06:52:34 PM »
My thoughts are something more organised. Not a protest as such, but more a coming together of supporters to take something forward a la Wimbledon’s fans did in the creation of AFC Wimbledon. The complicating factor is that we already have the amateur arm of the club so is this need already filled and what could we do to help them climb the leagues should we go to the wall?

Why would the fc want to climb the leagues? They're a healthy and competitive amateur club, serving the local community in acton, which is exactly what they want to be.

Seen a lot of posts online talking about Lawes playing 6 and being out of position.

Begs the question how long do you need to play in a new position before it becomes your specialism- lawes has barely got any game time at lock for years. Not  just for england, but also for saints, where he starts week in week out as specialist 6. He started all 3 tests for the lions last year at 6. At what point would picking him at lock actually be the out of position selection?

Think people are being a bit harsh on minnozi never having a good game in a wasps shirt. He was an important cog in the backline that got as flying up to the table to face Exeter in 2020, and I recall him having plenty of excellent games in that run.

Hes struggled since then for a variety of reasons, but the talent is there.
