Title: Bon Matin Tout Le Monde!
Post by: BG on November 16, 2019, 07:25:07 AM
Bon Matin Tout Le Monde! (As Del Boy would say).

I hope the weather is better in Bordeaux for the travelling fans than it is here in Warwickshire.

I hope the team forget the stresses of the league and just enjoy the experience (as it will be new for most).

We're up against an in form side but I hope things click for us this game

Morning ladies and gents.
I currently on the train up to oxford to shoot in a clay pigeon competition. The is a big meal and drinking session after so probably won’t be able to catch the match. I can’t see us walking away with much from this match, but I hope I am wrong!

Il pleut!

Morning BG, morning all. Very wet in Bordeaux.

Taxi driver thinks there’s a risk of cancelling the match. Maybe just scare-mongering.

Over 4 ins of rain predicted around the middle of the day. The rain radar tells the story and coming off the Atlantic, it will be blowing a hoolie, as they say in some parts of the world!

Morning folks. A damp and cold morning here. I was in Stratford-upon-Avon yesterday as the Environment Agency was putting up the flood barriers as the River Avon was overflowing its banks into Bancroft Gardens, the canal basin and the park opposite. I could be wrong, but I think the last time it did that in the town itself was 1998.

Sounds like it could be a muddy match, but an 8PM KO?

Morning all from a very wet Bordeaux.  Yesterday was lovely today utter crap. Fortunately not cold cold but started hammering down and just raining with heavier to come. Even the local weather forecaster said sorry!
Trying to judge today without getting pickled or coffee'd out prior to 9 pm! Met lots of nice Wasps last night and the town remains friendly.
Enjoy all wherever you are. Onward to the wine museum!

Miserably grey in Hastings. Cold and very damp. Sounds worse in Bordeaux. Hope the game isn't postponed.

Allez. Allez. Allez.

Morning all, pleased to see the game is on TV this evening, assuming it goes ahead. A Euro game is a big empty box on my list of things to do, so in spite of the rain I am envious. One of my wife's cancer nurses is going so an extra added hope that all of the travellers are rewarded with a great game and in any case are enjoying the famous French rugby hospitality.

Take care,
Notso

Morning all. I'd probably take any sort of point today. Odd sort of result elsewhere in the group. I'm hoping a good run in this competition can facilitate an injection of much needed confidence.

Bordeaux: Buros, Plazy, Radradra, Tamanivalu, Connor; Jalibert, Lesgourges; Poirot, Pelissie, Kaulashvili, Tutaia, Cazeaux, Roumat, Woki, Tauleigne.

Replacements: Dufour, Ravai, El Fakir, Marais, Higginbotham, Gimbert, Meret, Seuteni.

Why an odd sort of result. 5 points away from home doesn't seem too odd. Yes pedal off the gas but still won. Quite a few first choice to come back. Probably top with Bordeaux close.

I thought Agen would be better on home soil and I've seen Edinburgh a few times and not always been impressed.

Depends on the Edinburgh team put out. Recently under Cockerill they tend to perform.

Manifestation expected at place Pay Berland, from where the tram heads to the stadium. Lots of gendarmes in riot gear set up ready. Don’t know if it’s the pompiers or gilets jeune.

Good evening from Wales. Not going to watch the gane- got tickets for Marillion appearing with a classical quartet. I shall, if course, catch the game later.
I fear for the result - of the rugby rather than the music, but each to their own.
Enjoy especially those at the game, I hope you don't run out of "allez" s.

Is this the game thread? Looking fiairly tidy apart from the line-out which is dismal.

They are makig more yards in contact, which given the size of their pack is not all that surprising. Real positives for us are J. Willis proving a real menace at the breakdown, Wolstenholm looking assured and Fekitoa making yards ball in hand. Searle not looking stellar going forward, might like to see Umaga. COYW

Wolstenholme is a real star in the making.
Both Willises impressive but Jack is truly exceptional.

Searle looking good ball in hand but bad from the high balls.

Our bloody defence, how many years does it take to sort out. We are rushing as individuals and not a team, massive dog legs all over the place

So Fekitoa guilty of a drop or 2 and shooting up allowing Radradra to set up a score, but then makes Robson's try, so a mixed bag.

Why oh why do we kick it with 2 minutes left and needing to march the ball up the field? Gives them the ball and then they score, sealing the BP and preventing us from getting once. Infuriating madness.

We defended well in parts, but then get sloppy either around the ruck (Higginbotham try) or further wide (other 2 tries in 2nd half).

Our maul is emerging as a serious weapon! Just hope we can sort out lineouts so we get to use it more often. They were often contesting with 2 jumpers admittedly which is unusual and proved disruptive, but we can and must do better. Scrum solid, and T. Willis carried well off the base. Wolstenholm great game. Nice to see Launchbury back and getting 80 minutes, he worked hard, smashed people in the tackle.

Searle dropped a few high balls, but nice kicking out of hand. Don't really see our backline sparking though, I wonder how often BS, MlB, and MF have played together? Our line breaks were never from a set move but from individual players beating the man in front of them.

Watched on TV so may have a different opinion to those at the ground (or indeed, anyone else who watched on TV!).

Some really good things but unfortunately outweighed by some poor stuff then some really dumb stuff.

We do have some really good players but we also have players not good enough players, why didn’t Dai use Umaga, I think Searle is ok but nothing more, just didn’t get that decision.

Wasps are really frustrating to watch

Really, I though Searles kicking from hand was atrocious bar one penalty, in open play it was terrible. Fekitoa again didn't show up until the 70th minute but when he does its decent. I only knew Watson was playing because I saw him on the stadium walk in, not his fault as the wingers didn't really get a look in.
The scoreline was unfair, that was a good performance and deserved more.
Bordeaux are a team of absolute monsters, to compete with them and i'd argue we had them under pressure in the scrum is a feat in itself. The pack were very good, even the replacements. I don't need to say anything about Jack, world class, so I'll save it for a couple of notables.
Wollestone - for me, our best available 9, what a game, his management was excellent. I thought Ash put in a shift and kept the energy. Howlett was strong in the scrum and gave everything. Boog played better than I have seen him for a while. I never want to see Searle under a high ball again, just leave them.
Disappointing result but encouraging performance, well done the lads. In the prem that would have beaten alot of teams.

Given where we are, it looked decent to me, except for the line-out. Some good defence, some mistakes. Need to get Fekitoa with the programme.

Bring on Agen.

Obviously disappointing we lost. But we didn't get massacred against a team in excellent form, so that's pretty good to see.

Again hopefully we use this to continue improving.

I see so many positives and we scored a few points. We CAN do it, but still too many brain farts. Penalty count was way down (both sides roughly equal about 6 or 7 each). Rowlands, I think, had about half ours, but nothing too bad.

Searle's out of hand kicking was, at times, woeful, but at times fantastic.

Booj had a massive game in defence and attack. THAT was the Booj I saw so much in the A Team last year. Willis was superhuman.

We are utterly and totally woeful in the air; Watson and Searle especially. You sometimes wonder if they were ever shown how to catch a ball.

Lineout was as poor as it usually is. Without Gaskell we will struggle. Tibo would have been a better choice, as he has the height and jumps well.

Our backs remain our weak point, at 10/12/13. Nothing we don't already know.

I thought Wolstenholme was far better than Dobby. Kicking that ball away with less than 2 minutes to go on the clock was one of the expected total lack of on field thinking/game management I expect from Wasps.

Bassett was slow and laborious.

I can see the heads dropping, but it isn't THAT bad. We can improve with time. The quality is there, but needs a lot of tuning.

For me I think the throwing into our line outs are way to low, I could be wrong but that’s what is looked like to me.

I also thought Cruise kept running ahead of our defensive line and making dog legs, he wasn’t the only one but he seem to do it more often. That for me is really bad coaching, surely everyone knows ‘the arsenal’.

What the hell is wrong with Bassett, he really has dropped off, Watson is not good enough. Wingers is a must for us for next season.

For me we have some really great players, mainly in the pack but our backs is most probably the worst in the league

Well - the morning after.....my glass is more like half full again. A basically scratch team managed to keep up with one of France's form sides in a game that we could have easily won. Especially if we could have secured our own lineout ball...esp at 61 mins. Lots of positives, but the main one being the collective effort.

Launch looked like a man who just wanted a game after holding tackle bags for months and the Willis Bros were superb. Ashley looked keen to be out on the pitch and the front rows went well.

SH excellent, Searle needs some kicking guidance when looking to put ball to air for competition and Mike Le didn't look out of place and put in a good tackling effort.

If we can use these fixtures to forge the team effort required, it will be a v useful campaign.

Thought that was a really encouraging display for the most part. Front row went well and Owlett looked very good. Great to have JL back. Rowlands us progressing but I'd like to see him trim his pen count. Back row was great - J Willis immense. Unfair to criticise the wingers. It was never going to be a game for them. Also thought Wolstenholme looked good. Again we come away with nothing points wise but plenty of positives nonetheless.

Bit unfair to call Watson out, he saw the ball about 3 times total in zero space...fairs fair.

Set piece good.

Lineout has to be addressed this has been an ongoing issue. What do we lose if we select Flament?

Breakdown good - JW on another planet,

Wolstenhome showing maturity above his years.

Fekitoa looked more like the player that we expected to see when he signed. Some work needed on his defence.

Josh has not really sparked this season.

Overall if can build on the first 35 mins of the second half, we should be OK. I would be half tempted to start Wolstenholme and Owlett again next week.

Agree John. I would bring on Tibo and Umaga. The rest I would leave as was. Robson needs some rest off that leg he has strapped (or had) up.

Is Porter back soon? He has more pace and eye for a gap than Wolstenhome but the rest of Wolstenhome's game was excellent.

NB He needs a nickname as typing his full name is a pain.

Owlett should be BB.

[He is in the Lower Fourth form of Greyfriars School, known as the Remove, whose members are 14–15 years of age.]
