Title: Walk on songs
Post by: BG on December 01, 2019, 09:32:22 PM
Imagine you are the captain of Wasps .. what song would you like to step out onto the pitch to..

It could be Bon Jovi.. it could be Muse .. hell the Spice Girls

Well. NOT that damned stupid buzzing, that's for sure.

Do you want one that is instrumental, or with words?

I would have a heavy bass version of Seven Nation Army.

Or THAT riff (F1 music) from Chain (Fleetwood Mac)

Or Back in Black AC/DC

I quite like the buzzing, but myvwalk on song was "We shall not be moved" by The Seekers.

Bit of a tribute to an old friend of a friend. Probably not a good one for Wasps though.

Chumbawamba Tubthumping (I get up again)

"I get knocked down, but I get up again
You are never gonna keep me down"

Then again - perhaps something connected with Coventry

Ghost Town or Gangsters by The Specials?

Or associated with "Black"

Man in Black - Johnny Cash
Black Night - Deep Purple

I like the tradition of songs being linked to clubs, Back in Black making a lot of sense. Do think the Sam Sparro song ‘Black and Gold’ could be played during the team announcement and maybe ‘paint it black’ in the build up to.

To go completely outside the norm, a band called the Bohicas had a song called ‘Swarm’ that could replace the buzzing and would also be a good hype song

A few years ago, when we went to see Wasps play Viadana, they ran out to a version of the Rolling Stones Paint It Black, which was "heavier" than the original, and which I haven't been able to find a copy of.

However keep Back in Black (I am an AC/DC fan) - and drop the buzzing, at least until they sort out the speakers above where we sit - it sounds like white noise.

Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries always stirs me or simply "Black and Gold" although that is perhaps a bit old hat now.

Having spent numerous summers working in te family's pest control business I can 100% assure you that Wasps buzz. Never more so than when you are in a cramped loft space with thousands of the little bastards.

What’s wrong with Wasps Overture by Vaughan Williams?  The right insect, the right buzz - & it plays as the team runs out.

I've always thought the immigration song by Led Zeppelin would be a good walk on number - full volume.

The Immigrant, yes, that would work.

At Adams Park they used to use a tune from a film, I think it was 300, as the build-up to playing Back in Black.

It went down well with everyone, but then they decided to introduce the buzzing noise instead.

The old tunes were good.

Maybe they should walk on in silence

I stand corrected Vespula!  BTW I wouldn't go into a loft full of [otentially angry wasps.  I would rather burn the house down and rebuild!
