Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Wasps team to play Sale Sharks
« on: September 01, 2017, 12:23:30 PM »
The starting team looks so last year!

Gopperth at 12 then, that's my prediction out of the window!

Lots of talent around, wonder what's up with Miller?

I feel similar, it's not any single issue, but I find myself taking it personally, the constant overlooking of our players and playing style. I fully realise that I am being a little childish, and realise there are more good players than places, but that's how I feel. It is as if Wasps performance this year has been seen as just lucky or down to the high profile players. Just grates on me a bit. The pundits now seem to be saying that next year will be a struggle without the big players.

Jimmy Gopperth is 34, wonder how much longer he wants to play for?

Changes to Champions Cup qualification means that the top seven teams go through regardless of country. The Challenge Cup winners also go through to take the 20th spot.

Wouldn't be surprised if we get some injuries as well. Seem to remember us coming away from Tigers games with a few injuries, Hughes twice from memory.

I agree, it would be good to do something. Hard to think what what be appropriate though. I think Tom Young's wife is called Tiffany. Is Ben available / playing in the semi-final?

Morning all, best wishes to your wife VV.

Nerves jangling, in a conference so must be brief, cannot get to the game, but have given our season tickets to a Wasps legend (1998-2000) and his family so they went to a good home. Will be watching in the hotel, safe travels, makes yourselves heard.

Didn't cricket get a real boost when channel 4 started showing cricket? It would be great if the popularity grows as a result.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Balance
« on: April 30, 2017, 10:48:21 AM »
I don't like some of the comments I have read by supprters about some of our players and staff recently. I think it is driven by disappointment, emotion and maybe sometimes drink! No doubt those people will be getting back behind the team to give them support.

So in no way criticising, which would be unfair with the whopping benefit of hindsight that we have. Looking back to the start of the start of the season, all the players clicked together. Then as our new players arrived it seemed unclear how they would fit in. Discussion boards agonised how to fit all these wonderful players into the side. Perhaps they just didn't? At the start of the season the inside centre and full back were a bit thin after key players left. Kurtley Beale injured, Kyle Eastmond brought in to cover centre, but then existing players stepped up to a level, some in unexpected positions (like Gopperth) that made the original plan unbalanced. We ended up over stocked (before injury) at 12, but perhaps weaker at 13 after call ups. Then seeing how Miller stepped up at full back, Bassett going well on the wing with his deceptive strength. The discussion boards must have reflected similar difficulties at the club about where we're these new star players going to fit.

As the season went on our front row and back row took a hammering with injuries and nobody seemed to be able to fill the gap left when Daly was out. With hindsight we probably would have faired better if we had recruited a big prop and an outside centre. I do think that balance is also affected by the big salary players and the pressure to juggle players to get them on the field.

Morning all, best wishes to you and yours. Agree with the comments about this being a little odd on Friday. The dog walk, paper and coffee will have to wait till my lunch break. The other consequence is that I am going to be at an AGM whilst the game is on. I don't have the patience to wait and watch not knowing the result, so I will be rudely finding ways to keep track whilst pretending to be fully engaged with the AGM! (fortunately the new chairman and many others also support Wasps!). At the start of the year I was expecting to be able to go to this game as I usually work from the office in Brentford on Fridays. I went to the Northampton Friday game last year on my way home and it was great, helped of course by the way many of the 'second' players ripped Saints at home apart for the first time in ten years (or something!) think it was when Miller really got going with us?

Anyway, I agree with Nelly, at least I think Wasps 'should' and very probably will win. I hope the players are focused and support our attacks with structure, it seems to have been the counter attack that has worried me most recently.

It also feels a little odd doing the morning all on this board, while many of the others are still on the other, so I have decided to post mine on both.

Here's to a great game, may the best team on the day win,

...but you know, COME ON YOU WASPS!

'Not so'

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Team for Quins?

Has to be close, hope the end of the season is a fair reflection of all the teams, without too many out due to injury. Sam Jones and Rob Miller are probably the biggest loses to injury / fitness at the moment. Even if fit though, we cannot fit everyone in the team. I think Wasps current league position owes a lot to Miller and Jones at the start of the season though, Wasps went the longest without loss of any of the team. That was whilst James Haskell was injured and before Kurtley Beale and Willie Le Roux were playing.
