Try to Newcastle after 4 minutes
-
I'm listening on CWR but they've taken BBC Newcastle feed but I'm quite enjoying listening to the Geordies.
I'm also watching the women against Exeter. Not a brilliant game but they're holding on.
-
Me too. Can't get any stream and reminds me of listening to TMS . Seems all Newcastle at the moment
-
Very good radio commentary, thankfully.
-
Wasps try disallowed, and then 5m scrum which Hislop concedes penalty from
-
Giving away penalties for fun as usual.
-
Penalty Newcastle (8-0)
-
Wasps Twitter is practically non existent...
Is that the way these days?
-
Newcastle Yellow for impeding Robson.
-
Wasps penalty to corner, maul disrupted, try for Tom Willis
-
Wasps try . Newcastle players not happy and blocking the kicker . Something happened?
-
TMO reviewing touchdown
-
No try
-
HT 8-0
-
Sounds like we are struggling at the moment with little continuity..
Jacob missed a late penalty chance.
-
Very scrappy. Too many pens. The authorities really need to make clear whether players can demand a TMO intervention or not. Will Welch stood between Gopperth and the kick until Woodthorpe reviewed - I'm not a fan of that.

Jimmy I believe.

Yeah this sounded really dodgy on the radio - its fine to disallow a try if the officiating team legitimately decide to review it, but you can't have players demanding it...
We sound blunt.
-
The Geordie commentators are saying it's very strange how Wasps have not turned up full of confidence after "destroying" Bristol last weekend. Very muted performance and not going into attack mode with the backs. Interestingly also said Newcastle got out of jail with the disallowed Wasps try. Not sure why or how - is nice listening to the radio but frustrating now really able to follow it properly.
COYW for re-starting the engine H2
-
Looking at the map and weather app, it looks like one team has been playing into wind, but not sure who as I am only listening.
-
Hats off to Bobby Bridge - multi-tasking by posting on the CovTel site as well as co-commentating on CWR.
-
Commentators saying Budgies playing into the wind now, so assume Wasps were H1
-
Wasps Try - Tom Cruse
-
Jacob conversion 8-7
-
Sounds like we are well and truly in this, maybe just need some individual magic to get things moving for us!
-
Red card Newcastle for gouging. Geordie radio commentators saying decision is a "shocker". Crowd outraged. Tasty up there now , 25 mins to go

Wasps Twitter says that it was striking Jimmy in the head
-
Bobby Bridge saying Bassett cops one for the red?
Who knows. Nice to see we're back in it. Let's hope we can make the numbers advantage pay off.
-
"Penny had two or three open handed slaps on Bassett who was off his feet at the ruck."
-
Ref mic saying fingers in the eye.
-
Bassett, gouging and Newcastle mentioned again - maybe justice for last time
-
Fifita penalised for high tackle - yellow card
-
Result is penalty. 11-7 after ball falls off Tee and is retaken.
-
Tom Willis Try - being checked.
OK
Converted 11-14
-
Newcastle Try with 2 mins to go (16-14)
-
or is it ?
-
Yes!
-
Conmversion made 18-14
-
>:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
These radio commentators are great.
-
Why can we never finish a game when we have a man advantage. Almost a joke here that if the opposition go down a man certain defeat is on the cards.
-
Commentators seemingly not impressed with the ref.
Sounds like Newcastle would have been very annoyed to have lost that but it was there for us for the taking

The ref is massively out of his depth.
-
Frustrating that we couldn't see that out. We struggled to get any fluency as did they. But we'd clawed our way to a winning position with 5 mins to go. Pretty dire game. Bit worrying our scrum got dominated but line out went well. We come away with a point but 4 would have been nice.

Yup, he'll need the TMO to tell him if he wants tea or coffee.

The TMO will sleep tonight he had 2 jobs today.

I watched the game on Peacock.
Wasps lost the game through poor ball retention.
That’s it.
The amount of times the ball slipped out of their hands in good positions was many.
As opposed to Newcastle who had fewer opportunities but kept hold of the ball on a wet and windy day.
I can’t fault the effort put in by every Wasps player. They are pumped up and playing for each other.
I don’t want to put a dampner on this performance. It’s not a match to try and chastise individual players.
It’s just that we tried to play a slightly more expansive game than Newcastle and would have won relatively easily (in trying conditions) if we hadn’t treated the ball like a bar of soap.
Let’s just remember we’ve had a very dry past few months gearing up for these games.
Maybe Newcastle were better prepared - both mentally and physically - for these types of conditions.
Definitely a learning curve for this team this season.
It was Goppeth who got a finger in the eye by Penny.
Probably not intentional. But definitely red.
A few scrum issues that could have been tightened up.
Frustration for all the guys.
We needed to be more clinical.
-
I was sure that the inside pass just before Budgies' second try was distinctly forward. Officials said no clear evidence >:(
I said before the off that I would be happy to come away with something, which we did. Despite training on our plastic pitch during the week, bounce of the ball was vicious and totally unpredictable.
-
Whatever we say about the Refs performance, I don't think anyone can argue about the red card, given contact with the eye area is the threshold for a red card: https://twitter.com/w2aps/status/1444333481564250120?s=19
I joked on Twitter that maybe the reason for the BBC Radio Newcastle commentators views were the result of the Falcons players practicing their technique on them. I hadn't seen the video at that point. Now I have I think I may be onto something.
Edit: Screenshot attached. Looks like Penny's pinky finger is in Jimmy's eye to me.
-
*sigh* normal service is resumed.
-
Thank you Bobby Bridge. Very much.
-
IF we got away with no major injuries on that pitch, that’s as good as a win for me.

+1

Game management at the end was poor. Cost us the game. Shades of last season there.
If the ball is like a bar of soap, stick it up your jumper in the pack and play down time, not ping it wide.
