Are all on Amazon Prime as far as I can see. Usually a good team of presenters.

We will know on Friday. He has been happily training with them. Maybe bench fodder.

Was offered a family of four ticket for 52 quid for this match - RFU take note.

Hopefully so but wonder if he has left the switch too late.

England v Fiji - ?45 for an adult to watch a World Cup warm up match vs a Tier 2 nation. Laughable. Lots of tickets available and doesn't look like they've opened the Upper Tier.

Just under 50k at Murrayfield, even in the 6 nations Italy tickets are a slow seller so for a world cup warm up game that's pretty good.

There's  a mention of Tom Willis in the D. Tel.  saying that he might be  chosen at  No. 8 for England.   If so ...   I might ... just might ...  watch.  That'll be the first (maybe last)  International I'll have watched in yonks.

Forza Paolo.

Tom Willis on the bench for England. With the RWC squad announced on Monday he's probably got to put it about when he gets on.

With the RWC squad being announced on Monday, I reckon it's safe to assume Jack is already inked in.

Likewise Arundell, Farrell etc.

This looks like a last-gasp opportunity for some to grab a spot.

No sign of Jack.

Given those involved in the Prem final on 27 May weren't considered (except Malins) and Jack played in the Top14 final 3 weeks later I suspect that is the reason.

Tom of course played in the semi final a week before that, but Jack's place in the squad should be firmly inked in by now, whereas Tom needs the opportunity to prove that he should be there with his brother.

We at Chez Wonky will not be able to see anything on Amazon, mainly because   we  don't contribute  to it.  But I think we can see a repeat on 'Radio Look-you'  at 8.00 pm under Rygbi - Croeso/Loegre (probably with a Welsh commentary!).  Depends on the quality of the match.

Shame because Amazon coverage is far superior. Unfortunately all indications are the rugby is vaguely the same.

I haven't got anything else on so I'll probably watch out of ideal curiosity. I don't have high expectations for the game, a friendly between two teams who will have over achieved if they get to the quarter finals is hardly likely to set the heart racing.

I'll be watching as Prime video is part of my Sky sub and I want to see how Tom Willis gets on.. I don't subscribe to Sky sports or BT, so that's my rugby at the moment.

Information for all: Prime video appear to be offering a free 30 day trial

It was difficult to find a pub showing the game on Saturday and it will be worse for next few weeks as the Premiership Wendyball
will no doubt be shown at the same time.

Saying that if England can't even score a try against a poor, inexperienced Wales what's the point of watching?

Social club in village last year were quoted ?500 to show autumn intls (Amazon via sky box)
For the few extra non regulars it would bring in ,deemed not economic. Fortunately, in the end, chairman managed to get a letter covering him from Amazon to say he could use his own personal account. But can see why pubs ( unless they already have a big rugby connection) wouldn?t be interested

This is the downside of Amazon- pubs already have Sky or Sky + BT for soccer, so switching a few screens to rugby not an issue. If it requires a different license, the games will drop off public view.

Billy could be replaced a pie and it won't make much difference, except that the pie would be eaten by Jamie George and celebrated in the usual estate agent way.

Clive Woodward was particularly scathing about that, saying that the focus should be on looking for a quick restart to gain an advantage. It seems obvious.

Well, HQ top tier is totally empty (I had read they weren't even for sale - you can see why), 2nd tier maybe just under half full, main tier got a lot gaps as well. Be interesting to see how many the official attendance is.

Mullins saying today will be the day England turn it around. Wonder if he will be eating those words later?

If he is watching what I am, they will have to wake him up to check. Everytime I see Borthwick's gormless mug I want to throw a turd into it.
Never have I been turned off an England coach so quickly. That said the last time an England coach was appointed I approved of was Ashton, though I could understand Lancaster I guess.
Fiji look like they want to play.
Title: Re: Summer Internationals
Post by: Bloke in North Dorset on August 26, 2023, 04:26:49 PM
Same old story. England start well and look quite bright. After 15 minutes the opposition start getting their act together and slowly but surely turn the game round.

If this continues the last 20 minutes are going to be devastating for England given the way Fiji are breaking them down and that?s with one man off the pitch.

Well done Fiji.

English rugby has reached the stage our ODI cricket reached a few years ago. Change the way they play, change the management and leadership.

The cricket team appointed an Eoin, the rugby team need to ditch their Owen.

Great result for Fiji. I was smiling at the end at their sheer joy that they?d won and they?d actually enjoyed their rugby along the way. They reminded me of Wasps, somewhat leaky on the points front but dangerous with the ball in hand.

Imagine how much worse England will be come the 6N when they?ll have lost all those off the play in France.

This 10 team premiership is looking ever more of a disastrous idea.

Dear oh dear. If we've learnt one thing from that pile of shizzle - Ben Earl is NOT an 8. Somehow we are going to a WC with only one 8 who is as extinct as the dinosaurs. Borthwick has both Tom Willis and Zach Mercer, yet has managed to pick neither of them.

And what's the point of Itoje?

I missed the last game but he's been anonymous for most of the last few games and when you do see him on TV he seems to be wandering around aimlessly. I'm a great fan and at one point thought he'd make a good England captain, but he isn't even earning a place in the team from what I've seen.

Care coming on with England just getting within 1 point and knocking it on summed it all up really.
Far too much aimless kicking. Why ip and under the ball when your between the 10m and the 22.

Looking forward to engalnd getting smashed in the group stages and the RFU making some tough decisions.

The England team represent this country alot more than I'd care too admit. Old top tier nation sinking down the rankings to a tier 2 one.

If anyone wants an antidote to boring rugby I suggest you watch the Italy v Japan game. It was highly competitive, until Italy scored a couple of late tries, and featured running rugby and a high degree of skill. Full on tackling but no reviews necessary.

There was an amazing deception try from a lineout by Japan. Very innovative and far removed from the usual catch and drive. Italy's quick passing and running lines were a joy to watch. The commentary by Claire Thomas and Emily Scarratt was very refreshing too.

Wingers Ione (try hat-trick) and Cauozzo (MotM) were great and Paulo Odogwu played the last 20 minutes.

I think England have a very real chance of being in the RWC final.

Not the England team though. They will be lucky to make it out of their group. I'm talking about Luke Pearce refereeing the final! He was excellent in the France v Australia match. Very clear communion in 2 languages and a good feel for the game. Possibly the best current referee in the world.

Given the almost certain inevitability of the England team not making the final it may be Luke's position to grab instead.
