Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: What's changed?

The decision to perform a Keystone Cops tribute rather then see out the game got us to that position, then defeat was sadly inevitable.

A bit more patience at times in the first half and we could have been out of site by then.

I believe you are right.

We seem to lack both people leading the charge, and ones who can "think clearly under pressure". Too rushed when patience is needed, unable to take the sensible/pragmatic decisions and going into flap mode, as at the end of the Newcastle game.

I should think that was suddenly bereft of the likes of Gopperth, Cipriani, Robson (too much of the time), Eastmond (on his good days) and Wade would suddenly be blunted. However, with some clear thinking and leadership, whilst not being as exciting as the past couple of years, I think a few of this year's losses would have been wins and we might have been competing for top 4 with a sense of optimism that new recruits coming through would be more settled next year and things would improve.

I don't hold with the idea that it is (a lot) down to championship level players, the ones we took on this year seem to have done pretty well considering they might not have been expected to take up the reins so early on. Coaching is probably a major part of it, people would probably be focused to make better decisions if the alternative was a spot of post match one-on-one with a Mr. Edwards type person.

Perhaps a salary cap work only when set so high that no one can afford to break it.

Clearly a breach if a material gain that can be traced back to the club or its officers. However one of the businesses had a 1.5 million bank loan that obfuscates things rather.
I just hope Wray has not outwitted or outgunned rugby again.

Playing devil's advocate,  is it really bent?Or, does it just sound so?

All the paper had to do was look for directorships for Sarries rugby players, hardly up there with deep throat and Watergate. This is either clever,  hiding in plain site, if challenged then the defence that it is so apparent as not to be dodgy.  Or, it is just not dodgy.

If Wray has guaranteed loans to a business, not given loans to a player (something the cap rules cover), then there might be nothing technically that is a breach unless the guarantee is called upon.  If Fazola pizza Co. makes money and the bank loan is repaid, is there a cap breach?

Not trying to defend the evil empire, just don't want to get too excited yet.

P.s. Happy to be shot down in flames and proven wrong.

Bigger news might be if they chose to play "Ode to Joy" after a try

Yes to keeping it going and yes to contributing towards the costs.

You are doing loads, seems unreasonable to expect you to also unilaterally cough up for the "privilege".

Looked wide from my seat, but I am down at the halfway line so the judges should have a better view, but then the line judge on my side in the first half did seem to be struggling.

The figure GBP4K was being bandied about, so that might be for multiple ones, or one including fitting. I managed to zone them out at that point, intriguing as it was.

We were sat in the Dolman stand, all the Bristol supporters around us were most hospitable (save for the 8 years old 2 seats down who sprayed me with imaginary wasp repellent and told us we were the enemy😊).

My recollection was that the only booing of kicks was the final one we had and, whilst not something we want, I am sure the heat of the moment and the game being in the balance was too much to bear for some. Perhaps it was different elsewhere in the ground. Where we were there was plenty of good-natured “discussion” and “abuse”, especially once they started to catch up, I would do there again in a thrice.

Great ground (and was able to get chips with curry sauce so very impressed), seemed more like a home ground than a place they go to play which is how parts of the Ricoh sometimes feel (though I caveat that with my never having time to visit the fan village as always on a tight turnaround to get home for the dog, so might not have had the full experience). They could do a better job with the touchlines.

The only complaint I had was that the people behind us seems to want to talk incessantly about things not relevant to the game (for instance I now know the price of a telegraph pole), it was like having my own personal Nick Mullins commentary.

Great result, let’s hope Sale don’t have a rebound.
