Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Transcript of Nick Eastwood's words
« on: March 13, 2019, 04:31:40 PM »
I think "one eyed" is very generous, NWW! I'd call it delusional - the whole tone of it made me laugh out loud.

I've stripped this from a thread on the other site to add some context - thanks to La Guepe and his research. It puts this whole statement in context. The back ground is that in 2005 SISU started legal action relating to their interests in certain energy companies that had failed financially. SISU lost and the judge made these statements in his judgement:

"Ms Seppala was the least satisfactory of all the witnesses. In making my general comments above, I said that no-one was deliberately lying. But I fear Ms Seppala has a distorted recollection of some events..."

"She is also prone to exaggerate – the Respondents would characterise it as lying, but I give her the benefit of the doubt on that..."

"Further, it was the perception of others that the Applicants [SISU] were not seriously interested in negotiating but were interested only in reaching a final position under which their own interests prevailed."

I have no doubt there will be further legal action regardless of the outcome of the current and also have no doubt that SISU would renege on any agreement not to take any further action. I feel desperately sorry for the Coventry City supporters but now is not the time to blink.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Where to next season?
« on: March 11, 2019, 03:59:14 PM »
It's looking a possibility that we will be in the Challenge Cup next season which opens up a range of travel options, so where do people fancy going?

I quite like the idea of Bayonne myself (presuming they get promoted). Alternatively a repeat trip to Toulon would be welcome. I think I'll give the Continental Shield teams a miss but the winner of the Italian Top 12 might be interesting if they qualify....

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Preliminary hearing for JR2

Rossm, sorry, didn't make myself clear. Policing outside the stadium is provided as a crowd event. Policing inside the stadium has to be paid for by the club. Wasps require no internal policing, CCFC do. The policeman I spoke to was on duty outside, anti-stab vest, taser and all. Interesting to talk to.

CCC were charging £1.3m pa (I don't know what additional costs/benefits there were) which prompted the removal of CCFC to Northampton. The current arrangement is, I think, £100k pa with CCFC taking all ticket revenue plus a share of match day takings. Before negotiations broke down they were asking for (demanding) a similar deal but with all match day takings and a substantial share of none match day earnings.

I cannot how this is a fair deal for us in either the value of the rent or in the periphery extras. I believe Adams park was £100k 5 years ago and was about to be raised to £250k on the 1 January when we moved in the December. If I were to rent a house I would expect to pay market rates and wouldn't ask for a share of the landlords salary. Or would I?

As an aside, I was talking to one of the police at the Bath(?) game. He loved policing rugby as the fans were well behaved and friendly. He hated policing football for the exact opposite reasons and described himself as a "target" for bottles and glasses, not always empty. He also said it costs CCFC £106k pa for policing costs inside the ground (outside is not chargeable) and costs Wasps £0 as no policing is required.
