Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Ex Wasps signing for new clubs
« on: June 29, 2023, 09:33:47 AM »Mr Trailfinders spending big on playing staff and not so much for his 800 or so fans. At his age is their any succession planning?
True if his children have no interest in rugby and aren't happy at seeing their inheritance disappear.

Andrea Masi leaving Benetton by mutual consent, rumoured to be going to Toulon as Backs Coach.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Why does a 10 team Premiership only work with a strong second division?

You have to grow the size of the pie (revenue) rather than what has been happening recently where everyone seems to want a larger piece of the the small pie. Whether anyone of the powers that be will grasp that, well I won't hold my breath.

It was shared with me on twitter to give some background as to how the NRL is run.

Obviously no-one really knows. but it would appear that Holland had investors lined up that pulled out due to the uncertainty of the structure of the pro game and lack of clarity as to if and when promotion to the PRL would happen.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: It?s over?
« on: May 19, 2023, 11:34:17 AM »Also Wasps quoted 233 players and 37 coaches available which I would suggest is based on actual numbers made jobless in recent times.
I was always confident that there were the players available.
So sad that many of them won't get a chance to make it.

Rather than growing the game the RFU and PRL are shrinking it at an alarming rate, both pro and amateur.
I fear that Irish's takeover will fail for the same reason that Wasps couldn't get investors over the line and Atlas's American backers backed out. I doubt that any of the current prem club owners would be there if they had to be under the same financial scrutiny as any potential new owners. As it stands I doubt anyone will be able to sell a professional rugby club so they had better have deep pockets.

Can't see the RFU PRL loosening the EQP rules for matchday squads seeing as they have been going down the route of tightening them of late.

Interesting insight into how NFL is run by Tim Cocker on youtube
https://youtu.be/i9D7xvpZ6oM
Particularly the "any given Sunday" principle and more centralised funding
English Rugby needs to take a mixture of lessons from NFL, French leagues and the NRL rather than trying to follow Football.

That may well be the plan, quickly drop into administration and sell as a pre pack (much like Wasps hoped that they could do).

« on: May 04, 2023, 10:10:29 AM »
Not ideal (I would much prefer wasps were playing somewhere along the M40 corridor) but I can see that Sixways is probably the cheapest option.
Atlas will be desperate to get paying tenants, for income and to try to live up to their promises.
For Wasps it is a premiership quality stadium with all the facilities where all you need to do is turn up with kit, whereas a groundshare with a football team like Solihull would require investment in the pitch and facilities.

From Coventry RFC Wikipedia:
..." In December 2009 the club was placed into administration [2] and later in January 2010 brought back out thanks to Jon Bowles.[3] Coventry Rugby Ltd was created at this time and the first Board Of Directors was formed. A 15 point league deduction penalty was applied due to administration and relegation predictably followed from the Championship, with the club regrouping in National League 1 for the 2010?11 season with the club going part-time again."
Interestingly the Administrators were Begbies-Traynor Group.
