Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Premiership No Longer Viable?
« on: April 06, 2023, 12:27:26 PM »
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2018/sep/10/cvc-ownership-f1-warning-premiership-rugby-union

"CVC owned F1 between 2006 and 2017, when it was taken over by Liberty Media. The then deputy team principal of Force India, Bob Fernley, accused CVC during that time of ?raping the sport?. In 2016 he summed up everything abut the firm?s relationship with F1 in a single sentence. ?All their actions have been taken to extract as much money from the sport as possible and put as little in as possible,? he said."

CVC never made a success of F1, that was after they sold it.

I'd be surprised if STH's would be included, considering the Knockout rounds wouldn't be included in the season ticket.

100% it just requires the Sugar Daddy to prove that they are rich enough.

I don't know enough about the Top 14 clubs to know if they are anymore sustainable/less relient on their owners. But proving you have the cash is different to being sustainable.

Frost looks to be a good signing for Chiefs. They're obviously going to have to back to their original position of developing local talent rather than signing the big guns, which hasn't brought much success anyway. As a Cornish lad it sends some good signals to the local communities, especially as Pirate's don't look like they're going to build their own stadium very soon so won't be able to have Premiership ambitions and will remain a feeder club for Chiefs.

I don't think Dan Frost is from Cornwall, we signed him from Pirates, but he was at the Bath academy before then.

P.s. Ashley is coaching the midlands central academy (Wasps academy) they are training at the epic.

There will also be a number of ex-Wasps/Worcester players who have signed short term contracts with other clubs, for substantially less than their previous contracts. Moving back to the region may be close to their home etc etc.

And Welsh players too by the sounds of things. Along with some of the premiership squad players who will inevitably be dropped to balance the books.

Judging by the rushed tweet response from Wasps it would seem that they weren't expecting Atlas to announce the "agreement in principle" today. If I was Chris Holland et al I would be pretty pissed off, I would be wanting a public apology from Atlas and I would be seriously considering whether or not these were the sort of people who "we" should be doing business with.

I also imagine that if we have an agreement in principle to play at sixways I imagine we would have an equal agreement in principle with Solihull and anywhere else we have been negotiating with.

I am sure that our new owners will have been in discussion with the RFU and PRL with regard to all the possibilities regarding the future shape of professional rugby in England and what a return to the premiership would take. There is plenty of uncertainty around rugby right now and I'm sure any potential investors would want to know what they will be getting into.

I expect that there will be a plan A, B and C for everything from where we play to staffing depending on the level of investment they can secure.

Personally I hope that we play at Solihull next year, it's not particularly far from the CBS so travel times for most people will be around the same as before and it has good public transport links being between the Chiltern line and the west coast main line.

I'm sure discussions have already begun with possible stadiums we could play at should gain a return to the premiership within the next few seasons.

If the other clubs don't agree to that sale what happens next? Either no promotion or the scenario I outlined about TV money?

As I understand it, no P share, no entry into the Prem

I don't think London Welsh had a P share. My understanding has been that the P share gets you the TV income IF you are in the premiership.

Academies are Midlands West (Worcester) and Midlands Central (Wasps). They are run by the RFU. I believe that the ex Wasps academy coaching staff includes Ashley Johnson and they train at Henley in Arden.
