Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Worcester Update

Well our playing performance certainly didn't warrant relegation by 10 divisions.
Neither did Saracens' performance after they got (lightly) penalised for cheating.
Clearly playing performance on field doesn't just come into it, the four clubs that went bust did so for off field issues, not on field playing performance.

Thanks Chunky. It sounds encouraging for Worcester Rugby supporters.

The game really needs Wuss, Wasps, London Irish (and Jersey).
The attitude of most remaining club fans is that it doesn't.
Moreover, stronger squads and 6n break all for the better, and a feeling that new clubs need to be formed and work their way up.

There is also a feeling that Wasps very much got what they deserved because we lack supporters- monumentally thick I know to assume that more fans through the gate could have wiped off the debts, and that it is fan engagement rather than debts/income/saleable assets that dictate survivability.
In short, by and large we are not wanted by fans of the more successful clubs.

To be brutally honest, as a teacher,  the incoming disaster that Wales is ushering in, based on a false dichotomy between skills and knowledge, is a far worse example than the 20 mph. Councils can at least exempt roads, it might cost time and money, and the research on 20 mph be dodgy as hell, but nobody bar the private sector can avoid the Welsh educational equivalent of the Titanic. Even Guardian columnists have laid into it,and in Wales the education is entirely devolved to a Labour government of nearly 25 years standing.  No separate sciences anywhere, areas of learning experience where any teacher will do, and removal of English lit and Lang as separate GCSEs. Core Cymraeg of course, but cemeg can do one. Who needs doctors and scientists anyway? Turning Wales' educational system into a mickey mouse laughing stock one GCSE at a time, all based on discredited educational research.

One club I never visited after the cap shenanigans when we were around, certainly would not do it now we are not.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Ospreys

Looking to move from a super ground because.....
20k is too much.
Yes, that's right kids, 20k is too much and we are going to have a 28k stadium. Hmm.
Fwiw I have had freebies from there- all clubs give a fair few freebies despite the protestations of venomous cretins like Grendel- and it just doesn't work there. It isn't as bad as Murrayfield was when we played Edinburgh in about 07 ish, but it is bad. The Wasps atmosphere on 17k out of 32 was better than Ospreys IMHO, for a valid comparison I would look at when we had crowds of 10k or under, as in the development cup.

Do any of us realistically expect to see Wasps pro mens outfit competing again?
I don't, and frankly had this been a 13-15k stadium I would have treated the proposal more seriously. It just doesn't feel right as it is, even allowing for the times we are in where nothing club rugby does feels sustainable.

Don't suppose he fancies investing in a new rugby venture in Kent....

I, for one, would be disappointed for out of court settlements.
Regarding Derek, at the end of all this I hope he can come out and say in full what happened.
He owes me no apology. People who lost their jobs might say otherwise. They might have a point, too, but until it comes out in full nobody can say if they do.

So what happened to the money invested in Malta?
Ooh. Super point.

Allow me to summarise. In order to avoid verbosity and my usual sesquipedalian prose.
We are fucked.
Royally.

Whilst not necessarily disagreeing WWW, I will give him the benefit of the doubt. He did after all pension Ben Youngs off earlier than I expected.
TBH, its not his selection which worries me, he selects a team based on how he wants to play. He needs to change his game plan to a more expansive, risky & entertaining style then pick a team accordingly. If he doesn't he may as well keep picking Sale/Tigers/Sarries players.
I agree the absolute worry is style. Imagine England in the big groups where we would definitely have gone in, say, Scotland's place. Imagine out at the group stages playing that brand of rugby.

That is hopefully what will come out.
I am most interested in the rescue plan and why it was vetoed- was that reasonable. . That will likely be beyond the remit of this action, but once it is out the way hopefully we can hear from Derek, who has been silent publicly on everything.

Also interested in Holland's role.

I simply don't trust Borthwick on selection.
Billy being one of the more egregious cases in point.
I think Borthwick will ruin Smith as well.
But you could argue that Borthwick is just continuity Jones without the twatish statements and clever nonsense like 'finishers'.
