Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Bristol interested in Cruise
« on: December 25, 2019, 07:47:30 PM »
Billy was fantastic in the game against Bristol until he went off. He was the attacking fly half that showed everything we needed and if he gets anyway back to that form he will be a great addition for us.

I was at the game and when Lima replaced him we looked bang average

Spoke to a few wasps fans today and everyone feeling like Lima is on his way

We were wondering if Lima has indicated he will return home but remains committed thus Jacob getting game time whilst supported by Lima and Jimmy in training. He said this in his interview (about training). All would kind of make sense.

Was at the match so my thoughts below:

Game changed for us when both second rows when off. Chiefs got control of the scrum and maul and we struggled from them.

Frustrating start with kick from Dan going straight out. To me he does not look fit and his passing and sharpness just not like normal Dan. Porter looked much sharper when he came on.

Thought the pack went well, both Willis brilliant and very commited.

First time I have seen Jacob play and he looks a real talent. Organised the back line well, very skilful and good kicking too. Been a big supporter for Lima, but watching him warm up and then when he came on he didn’t look interested.

Hope the team is built around Jacob moving forward. Booj had good game. We should have scored 3 tries in first half though great backs moves which would have changed the game.

Morning all.

Grey morning so far in Exeter. Should be dry for the game.

Bold but right selection from Dai to pick Umaga. Few players missing from Exeter. Hope we go well.

Safe travels all.

Goodey, Lol and Austin made a point on BT Sport on Sunday that if you were to put together and compare all of the 12 teams in the aviva prem then they would all be very similar with not much to pick between them.

They mentioned this has come into the league in the last 2 seasons but what has really changed is the quality of coaches in the prem teams.

Most teams are all very similar but the quality of coaches has rapidly
Improved and that the teams at the bottom of the league are the ones with the weakest coaching set up

Thought this was very interesting with us and Tigers bottom.

My Thoughts Below on Dai:-

Firstly although he has not won any titles or cups To me he is a Wasps legend for his own personal sacrifices He made when the club just missed out on relegation when he first started out.

Secondly I feel like last year he was incredible unlucky and also made some bad decisions.

Losing Danny Wilson at the start of the season was a killer blow and unfortunately we have not found his replacement since. Seeing how Wilson Cardiff team beat Gloucester in the euro cup final and how they played without amazing resources he would of been a great fit for us.

We need another Senior Coach to assist Dai in his operations and to take the pressure off him. The club has looked at many different options so far and I hope we do find someone else soon. I was disappointed we didn’t use any Coaching Consultants last year to assist the squad on a short term basis for experience.

Last year Dai was let down massively by his senior players. Daly, Hughes, Willie, Stuart, JCW all moved on for different reasons but unlike Simmo none of them played like they cared par two Hughes games at the end of the season.

We also had an incredible amount of injuries. I don’t know if this was down to the S&C or freak Injuries but Bath and Tigers seem to suffer as badly. Is this really Dais fault I don’t know?!

We lack a real leader and have done for a good while. My personal view is that we only have 1 natural leader in the squad with experience who is Brad Shields. He isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but you could easily see in the Away victory at Saints in the Prem Cup that Brad was the leader and consistently talking to the players and the referee. This should of been addressed Over the summer by Dai.

I don’t like that Robson and Young’s are captain. Especially with Robson he has enough to control and worry about along with having to be Captain.

Lima has struggled and frankly disappointing. I want him to be successful and Hope with Fekitoa he will bring the best out in him. Lima has no more excuses for not delivering. I do wonder if the team dosent play to his strengths and is this a fault of the coaching team?!

We miss a big second row to take the pressure off Joe. Since Bradley Davies left we had Matt Symonds who I feel is exactly the player we need now. Although Injury prone he was brilliant at time’s for Quins last season and has been named Co-Captain this season.

Still lack another quality 12 unless Jimmy is fit. I don’t get why Dai didn’t recruit another Second Row and 12.

What Dai has done well-

Bring in Gleason
Promote Academy players and play them
Promote Everard to senior coaching team
Signed Minzonni
SignEd Fekitoa
Signed Vaninua (Made most breaks and most carries so far in prem)
Signed JTA who will offer us more in the loose compared to JCW

My hope moving forward is to Find a new Head Coach to take the pressure off the whole Coaching team and Dai especially. Make Shields Captain and let him galvanise the squad.

Should Dai go? Not yet but with another season like last season I don’t think the board would put up with it.

Been following this site for a little while but only just registered today...!

Saturday's result was brilliant and exactly what the club needed. I spotted Gleeson on the touchline quite a few times and he came on the pitch to speak to the players as Lee B did last season with the drinks, he had a reflective vest on! We will need a real performance again this Saturday against Sale who appear to be in very good form.

Was very impressed with some of the academy lads who have been promoted to the senior squad. Cardall looked very sturdy at 4, Spink showed some strong moments in attack and defence but went missing for a part of the game. Jacob reminds me of a young Danny, full of confidence and flair and willing to take anyone on. He just isn't as quick!

Thought Paolo struggled on the wing and looked lost quite a few times. Our new no 8 showed much promise and talent and he will only grow. Carr looked brilliant and looked very refreshed after the summer. As did Brad who I thought was excellent and looked very comfortable as captain. The players seem to respond to him and what he asks of them to do. One of my main hopes for the season is that Jack Willis stays fit.

Many positives to take and much needed confidence in the squad!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: in the market for a fly half?
« on: October 02, 2019, 06:09:01 PM »
Found this article with the Guardian from last September - https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/sep/11/money-too-good-new-zealanders-wasps-lima-sopoaga and it states Lima signed a lucrative two-year deal with Wasps in January 2018.

I personally would like to see Lima stay on for another season or so. He was not at his best last season but he should be more settled now and with a few more Kiwi's in the club, I hope he will now flourish.

If Lima does go I would love to see Jacob play more games and a new signing brought in at 12. I can't imagine Jimmy will be staying on for another season so as mentioned by other posters, we need a 12!
