Wasps Rugby Discussion / England Vs Scotland
« on: February 06, 2021, 06:39:14 PM »
Not sure we want to talk about 2 abject performances on here. But England were woeful. Scotland had the vast majority of possession as we kept hoofing it aimlessly to them. Lawrence made 1 carry then gets hoicked off, and Robson clearly has been told to keep box kicking it so that is what he does.

Scotland fully deserve that win, and I hope it gives the England coaching set up reason to think if they really are on the right track.

France Scotland (rematch from last year too) is going to be one hell of a game.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Exeter Sale
« on: August 21, 2020, 06:09:57 PM »
Two early tries, could turn into an entertaining game. 1st a lovely move from Exeter slicing Sale open in midfield. 2nd, Sale maul up then Tuilagi makes great yards and then Curry goes over.

Saracens sign former Glasgow Warriors and Scotland second row
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/53283869

OK so in the last 10 days they've signed Venter, Clarey, Hooley, Sloan, and now Swinson.

Obvious question is obvious: How are they able to afford this? Looking up outgoings I may have answered my own question, they have lost Williams, Skelton, Carre, Kruis, Isiekwe, Spencer,  Singleton, Tompkins, Lozowski, Barritt and Wigglesworth (probably). Some of those are season long loans out. So a pretty big chunk of wages.

But still probably a higher wage bill then the rest of the champ (perhaps not Ealing?) What must all the other Championship clubs be thinking?

... that we were already comfortably under the salary cap, hence needed to do less adjusting?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / SRU throwing money away?
« on: January 14, 2020, 03:58:50 PM »
From the BBC:

"Scottish Rugby's highest earner more than doubled their money for the year up to 31 May 2019 compared to the previous 12 months.

The group's accounts showed their "highest paid director" had received £933,000 in salary and benefits.

That's an increase of £478,000 on the 2018 figure.

Released figures refer to a 'Long Term Incentive Plan' to "attract, retain and incentivise participating employees over longer term periods and achieve alignment with the organisation's medium and long term strategic initiatives and targets"."

That is some incentives package... I hope they can justify that, or the Scottish Pro14 teams might be asking why they don't deserve a similar boost in funding.
