Thanks Vesp..

Hookers tend to pop up because they are under pressure from one of the props coming in on an angle.. which is where JP came to the conclusion that Brookes must have been pushing in at an angle.. of course it could be that Sarries 2nd row had crabbed to the left whilst pushing which will cause the same problem.

Years go if the a front row felt under pressure they'd take it down but by popping up they don't give the opposition front row anything to push again and the ref then has to guess.. which JP did... time after time.

JP was ignoring the fact that the Wasps front row were parallel to the touch line going forward on most occasions, it was the Sarries pack who were crabbing left or right to try and absorb the pressure.

I doubt it would have affected the end result as the Sarries backs had more nouse but its hard to win a game if your pack is under pressure at the set piece

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Pecking order?

There was a lot of debate about who was best.  Chesty seemed to be mroe powerful, but Mullan was supposedly more technical.  I'd be hesitant to rule Mullan out of first choice without seeing how he does when he comes back.  He's played internationally and not let anyone down so he deserves that at least.

Placing Mullan as 1st choice LH is a leap of faith given its been ages since he last played (how long ago was it??) and even when he did last season, some would argue that Si Mc probably held that berth. In terms of scrummaging they are probbly equal but i think chesty offers more in terms of carrying and offloading ability. Ben Harris has also come on leaps and bounds and has scummaged well and is a good ball carrier. Mullan will be 32 at the end of this season when I presume his contract is up. Will Dai renew it?

In terms of the backrow, when our injuries come back we are blessed but at the moment YY has to be 7, he offers something that only Jack Willis seems to be able to do, which is reading the game at rucks and snaffling the ball (without that ability teams seem to be able to go through phase after phase against us). Shields seems to be settling in and might become one of those team unsung heros doing all the dirty hard graft . I'm torn between Nemo and Hughes at 8. They are completely different players. Nemo is quick and finds and steps through gaps and offoads, Hughes is a big lump who ties in defenders. In my view though Hughes hasn't stepped on as a player and that he hasn't added to his game in the way the 2 Vunipola brothers have in improving his handling and offloading ability.

We played some of our best rugby last season with Carr at 8, so controversially, I'll give him the nod there.

In terms of backs, you might as well write names on a pieces of paper and pick them out of a top hat as no-one really is head and shoulders better than anyone else this season (apart from Bertie possibly)

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: OT - Was Fury robbed?

I don't know if anyone else has an opinion on the boxing, but I think the attitude of the fighters after the end of the last round said it all.  Fury knew he'd got it, and WIlder didn't seem convinced at all.

It has the feel of Lewis and Holyfield all over again.  Let's se a rematch in the UK and see how that one ends.

115-111 my foot!
The ones that were robbed were the mugs that paid to watch it

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Are Bristol the new Exeter?

Dai needs follow the Exeter model. Bringing in expensive short term SH players doesn't seem to benefit the club in the medium term. I hate to say it but WLR looks like he's mentally already left the club (perhaps he's jaded after travelling 3 times around the globe playing in the summer and early Autumn for SA?). Some of the new signings (Booj, Neale, Morris, Atkinson) look like they're prepared to run through brick walls for the team in comparison.

I don't know what to make of Daly at the moment. Apart from kicking the occasional long penalty he hasn't really performed this season yet.

The problem is getting people to change their habits. I've started to reply to users via PM and mentioned this place

I think Bristol will stay up. They've assembled a good squad. As far as I'm aware they don't lose anyone to international duties and have a very rich and passionate backer. I have a feeling it will be one of the big names that will go down this year, and that, along with the potential CVC deal may start the ringfence process

I think the players  are starting to get to know each other and trust each other. Michelle was caught out by stepping in sometimes on the blindside but that's probably because he's not a winger and instinctively doesn't quite know what to do.. step in or stay out or try to drift and use he's outside defender.. the touchline.

For those of us that have logins for both sites I think we should start promoting this site for the regular DW users (as long as Vesp is ok with that)... and hopefully SamLee (who took to the Sarries forum to keep trolling Wasps) won't find it

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: 30 seconds in...

Despite the result I thought there were a few positives. We were starting to dominate them in the pack until the subs came on for both sides and then the quality of their bench made the difference.

Rossco looks like a handful and its noticeable the defence stand off him for a split second. I'd love to see him in his favoured position of 13.

There weren't any major injuries. I think Hughes landed on the hard pitch with the ball directly under his sternum in a tackle and lets not forget he's had very little game time recently so lasted very well. I sometimes wish he'd look to offload rather then try and bump someone off. Although it looks impressive it gives the defence time to re-organise.

Michelle looked eager but misread what Daly was going to do when there was a slight opportunity for an overlap but being fair to him he doesn't know anyone but one on one he ran hard and straight. I think he will become a good asset

The penalty against Brookes was apparently for boring in but hiis shoulders were still square to the try line and I thought it was the Sarries prop he then got twisted but JP read it the other way?

Anyway.. I quick trip over to the Tigers board

Various Wasps supporters are worried about our cover at 10.. bear a thought for Quins.. an 18 yr old starting.. (Marcus Smith) albeit very talented.

And Drunken Wasps is down again? Is it just our site or does it happen to other clubs' sites?
