Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: BB Breaking - Announcements
« on: October 18, 2022, 11:33:39 AM »
Thje one place that has never been touched by First Class Rugby is East Anglia which has a vast number of existing clubs and one or two larger stadia. However unless we get a very very rich backer it is all pie in the sky stuff. We are a toxic brand.

Birmingham. Second biggest city in England, and no Prem rugby in easy reach.

I know, I know, it's not closer to Wasps heartland, but it's not far from Coventry, and potentially has a large market.

All pie in the sky, as you rightly say Neils!

And has the rail links NWW mentioned, I assume HS2 will make it a very quick commute from the original Wasps heartland too........

Anyone know who the Directors are for the remaining Companies? Will be quite angry if there has been a slight of hand that has killed off Wasps.

ACL have Nick Eastwood, Derek Richardson, and Jacquelyn Issac listed as directors.  What are the other companies?

Arena Coventry Limited and IEC Experience Limited still to operate!

IEC Experience Ltd are Nick Eastwood, and Jacquelyn Issac. Though Derek is the primary owner.

Please excuse my ignorance in these matters, but if Derek and Eastwood are the directors of ACL, does that not provide a glimmer of hope that they will only sell to a company that are interested in saving the club, or even better, can they somehow engineer a solution from their continued operations of the arena?

I realise I may be thinking through nothing but blind optimism, but I really am clutching at straws that anything may rescue the club.....

Agree with most of the sentiments expressed here, it will leave a big hole in my life, rugby is the only part of winter I like, it is the grain of comfort as the days become colder and the nights longer. I've lost interest in England under Eddie anyway, and the way the RFU are watching is die is only making me more bitter to the whole set up.

I did put it to my mates on Saturday that we could watch Plymouth Albion more regularly, but, as I've said in another thread, the product on offer simply isn't worth the price of a ticket. I really am at a loss of how to get a rugby fix from now

I've just messaged my wife saying that I feel like a friend has died, I'm glad there's others feel the same and that I'm not being melodramatic. No, I'm not glad, but you know what I mean!

As Saturday approaches, me and the lads are discussing what time and where to meet etc and it's really just hit me, that this could well be the last time......I suddenly feel very deflated. :'( :'(

They will now be on short term injury contract

I know there is the "Medical Joker" policy in the Top 14, but I wasn't aware of anything similar in the prem. I thought any injury cover had to be covered under your existing cap. Does anyone know what the actual rules are here?

It used to be that you had a certain amount for injury jokers, Wasps have used them previously. Those with better memories than I will remember which players perhaps. I assume the rule hasn't changed, though the amount may have done.

If the contracts are now void for the Worcester players, who are Bath loaning the players from now. Does it stop being a loan, can bath still play them

Oooh, now THAT is a good question!

Not from Wasps, but from someone in a position to have some knowledge (sorry for being vague, it is deliberately so).

What he's hearing is that Wuss (as we already know) are in big trouble, but there's no real concern about Wasps at the moment. Feeling is Wasps will get through this without issue. Also suggested that as Wasps voluntarily started the administration process, that may effect the potential of being relegated too (as in, it won't effect them). Hopefully it doesn't get that far anyway.

It's a shame you have to be vague about the identity of your source, but fully understand your reasons for being so.

Hopefully this is accurate and we can all soon relax a little. Out with my mates last Saturday, several casual chief's supporters and one hardcore Quins supporter among them, they were all curious to know who I'd support if Wasps did perish, I honestly don't know if I could just shift allegiance like that, it really would leave a hole, of sorts, in my life

Yep - real dilemma. After wanting Wasps to win every game since their move to Coventry I'm not sure I would want to find a Premiership club to support. I'd probably become a Cov STH again.

At least supporting Cov wouldn't be too massive a drop in standard of rugby on offer, my local club is Plymouth Albion, I used to go to watch them frequently when they were in the championship, but since they've slid down the divisions, the product is not worth the ticket price (I think they took 50p off the price of a ticket when they were relegated from the championship......)

I'd think given we're likely to be relegated at the end of the season there are bigger things to be worried about then this weird obsession with criticising Sarries at every opportunity.

Since the thread is specifically about Sarries, I expect most comments will be about Sarries.....

I'm sure I'm not the only one here that reads "diversification of revenue streams" as, "hiding the money and cooking the books".

You might not be the only one, but personally think it’s wide of the mark.

It’s a reflection that, as Derek and Co have sought to do, Rugby Clubs need multiple sources of revenue beyond the traditional sponsorship and match day revenues.

Hence renting the pitch out to schools, using meeting space around the Club etc…

Sorry, I know we are diversifying revenue streams, and are doing it openly. My comment was aimed at the history of Sarrie's antics and my inability to trust them in anything they do. See Shugs' comment immediately after yours. They will forever be tarnished in my eyes as long as any of those involved in the systematic cheating remain tied to the club.

Just read the article in The Grauniad which is about Jones and what he's doing/thinking. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/sep/27/breakdown-eddie-jones-england-rugby-world-cup

I've got to the point now where I'm too often uncertain if Jones is taking the piss or actually providing something for journalists that relates to England and the RWC. Thinking under pressure - this article - isn't exactly new. T-CUP anyone? And the article suggests that England actually have a Plan A....Or believe they do.

Jones seems to want players that conform, and yet seems surprised that England lack ideas.....(2 recent 6Ns say) England have always been able to win any game as they can pick a number of very ugly packs - hell from those not in the squad you could pick say West, Cruise, Cole, Launch, Stooke (no bias...) G Martin, C Nield, T Willis and that would work. It showed vs Ireland last 6Ns when even with a red in 2 mins, England were physically competitive - but out smarted, unlike in 2021 when we were just crap vs Ireland!

But it seems they have been found out. Running Billy/a.n. other into contact isn't a winning strategy c.f. 6Ns games vs Scotland last 2 years....They loved it! And hoping Manu is fit is a fairly limiting strategy. We've been lucky with Watson and May being fit so often and they are fast, but we've now dropped Marchant and Slade....so how to get the ball to the wings?

As I said - probably just me.....

No, it really isn't just you.

We have the same conversation at work every time an England squad is released, to the point, that I almost dread every training camp/competitive squad announcement, as it will be the same gasps of horror as we read , Ben Youngs etc etc....

Isn't 7s the equivalent of his "50" in reality?
