Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Rugby is a form of child abuse, study says
« on: February 10, 2024, 07:59:06 PM »
At least you can vote for your politicians. The latest proposal from the senedd i(the Welsh assembly) is to remove names and show only parties on voting forms. The parties will then appoint senedd members. I suspect the result will be less voter engagement and lower turnout at elections, eroding democracy. But more dangerously the parties will appoint only those who will rubber stamp policies rather than question them. And no idea yet how Independants will appear on voting papers.

Children are more likely to suffer serious injury crossing the street than playing team sports. Let's ban all vehicles.

Not in Wales, if you believe our politicians, now that the 20mph default is in!!!! Next we'll extrapolate and reduce it further so that we can have a man with a red flag in front. Could be part of a master plan to re-employ redundant steelworkers??

Wasps Rugby Discussion / JPR

Have sadly just heard that JPR Williams passed away today.
Legend of the Welsh game.
He played in the first international that I attended, and was often seen in my local area where he was a doctor at my local hospital.
Condolences to his family.

Reminded me of when I was returning from Grand Cayman a couple of years ago, carrying a Wasps backpack. A lady on the same flight introduced herself and said that her grand daughter played for Wasps.
Good memories - let's hope they return, though I can only currently see it as part of a breakaway league as the idea of franchises went down like a lead balloon with the championship clubs. Not exactly a surprise, except to Mr Sweeny it would seem.

Why would HMRC be more lenient on repayment of covid loans when the salary cap is being increased, thereby increasing a clubs overheads and increasing solvency risk? More likely they will increase pressure on timely repayment.
Plus they will not want to be seen as inequitable to other covid loaners - companies etc - and the clubs already gone.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Kent!
« on: October 23, 2023, 05:15:12 PM »
That?s me definitely done then!! 510 mile, 10+ hour round trip ain?t happening. Glad I enjoyed what I could of Wasps while I could. STH from early Adams Park days thro? to Cov inc. 325 mile, 7 hour drive when we moved to the Dales but can?t justify that sort of trip and expense. Will be sad if it does come to Sevenoaks but will wish all connected with Wasps the very best of luck.
Likewise. From mid Wales, Coventry was do-able (roughly 5hrs round trip) But any part of Kent is too long a journey in both time and distance. However if Sixways is initially used, then a easy jaunt fot Mrs FW and me.
But until the long term structure (including promotion and relegation) of prem2 / championship is certain, how can any club  plan?
Regardless, best wishes that Wasps can be resurrected not just in name but in playing style too

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Championship Clubs v RFU

Glad to see the Championship clubs speaking out. But will Sweeny et Al listen? Not, I suspect until his ridiculous salary is threatened.
Totaly agree with WWW - thereust be relegation/promotion between P1 and P2. For numerous readons, including the attractiveness to potential investors, ambitions of players, and paying fans. Yet RFU and PRL seem to be pursuing a closed shop for P1 at least

Mr Sweeny must be extending his nap.

When will the RFU insist upon full financial transparency and on ostensible evidence that clubs can finance the next season or two?

Such a shame to see last year's championship winners go.

Maybe it's part of the master plan to get a 10 club "prem2"

Grrrrrrr

................  or even in the squad.

+1, together with Young..
The improvement with Mitchell at 9 and Ford at 10 was so noticable. Faster and a 10 who was not an automaton that does little but kick.
I've never thought much of Fazlet as a FH, though he has been a world class place kicker. Now just a has been IMHO

Thanks BP101. That makes it clear.... As mud.
Surely the RFU/PRL would not give Tigers (or any other club) an opportunity to effectively break the cap without breaking the cap, disadvantaging the other clubs? After all, they are so good at thinking announcements through beforehand (like the tackle height change) No wonder they are tight lipped.

Genuine, if pointed, question:-
Does the element paid centrally count towards Tigers cap? Or does this leave the door open for "manipulation" of the cap?

Did he get a discount for offending in bulk?

Poor, poor decision.
+1 His previous should have meant no reduction, and possibly an increase on the baseline imho

Still seems at odds with what eg Pacific Islanders get

And another

And yet on Ruck, McCall is moaning that they are losing players because of the reduced cap. Unbelievable ( if it were any other club)

How can both Massie Taylor and Bil Sweeny have the face to stay in their roles. Must both be amoral.
Time for the DCMS to call them in again, tell them that they should have insisted on full financial transparency  of all clubs following the Saracens affair (though admittedly pre Massie Taylor time) or not be allowed in the Premiership or championship untill they agreed, and tell them both to resign.
They still seem to be asleep on the job. And Sweeny is paid how much to doze?? (I have read over?750k, in which case he must be costing considerably more when 'ers NI at 13.8% travel, and other expenses are added in)
