Have to wonder how speculative the interested parties were though.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: They would wouldn't they!

But Covid loans weren't the reason three clubs went bust...
Moves like this have a tiny chance of changing anything, but make creditors rush to call in any debts they can. It's like a slow motion car crash, they have had years to sort this out and failed catastrophically. Who would give any credit terms to a professional rugby entity now? Who would buy into a club? Formats, rules and league structure announcements change so often it isn't even clear what you would be buying.

His core point for me is the crux of the problem. The PRL marks it?s own homework.

The worst thing that can happen for elite rugby is that the 10 limp on. Interest will wane, the game will die. One more unfortunate soul to the wall and it is too obvious that it's untenable and change must happen. Bad for whoever that is in the short term but it's what the game needs.
This. I'm afraid it is going to limp on until it's too late for the game in England.

I think there is a good case that Wasps didn't take the medicine soon enough, same for Irish. I'd rather be watching Wasps in the championship than not at all. Although in my case I would probably not have started watching if they hadn't taken the course they did.

It now looks like the whole league is going to follow. With people in charge determined to build a house of cards.

Part of me would love to see them pop up in France or Italy. They already have taken over the backline of Benetton! Seems more likely than in the English system.

Seems the pitch that was laid less than a year ago and cost half a million has been ripped out.

I saw an article on that as well, lots of regurgitated narrative. Wonder if it will be ready in time for the new season...

Presumably Irish will be offered a place in the championship the season after next if they can pay rugby creditors.

So this at least puts paid to the idea that Wasps could have made it at Brentford regardless of the change in opinion of the council. Crowds always looked good for Irish there.

I just wonder if Wasps and the others had taken their medicine sooner, would they still be in the upper levels of rugby.

Bordeaux (Tim W & Gabby) came from behind to see off Lyon (Sopoaga) in the play off to face La Rochelle in the semi.
Racing (Wade, although haven't seen him playing for them for a while, is he injured?) beat Stade (Paulo, Biyi) to face Toulouse in the other semi.

Could still see a Willis vs Wills final....:)

I think Biyi is a Racing as well isn't he?

I like to think that most people involved in ownership of rugby started out with good intentions. Perhaps with hindsight the team would have faired better if they had gone down to the championship before the Ricoh move and rebuilt from there. But where and how would still have been touch and go by the sounds of it.

If Irish go then that is just under a quarter of the league bust. At what point do other suppliers for remaining teams decide they want out or payment up front etc.

I quite like the idea of a few hundred Wasps supporters turning up to games through the league's at clubs used to only having friends and family turn up!

Slightly surprised, was it related to not publishing articles?

So do all clubs have to disclose their finances now, I seem to remember a team decided not to make their books available.

All other PRL clubs completed the process by the date. To show a forward (3 year I think) plan, and show finance firmly in place for the following season.

But, Irish were special, and allowed two extra months. And now another week, and ...

Makes a mockery of the process. Special rule for one club this year, all clubs next year.

Ah, it must be a 'soft' requirement

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Wasps FC

Does anyone with links to Wasps FC know what their thoughts are about a semi-professional Wasps RFC starting from the bottom?

Starting at the bottom seems like it could be quite a ride and in some ways I find it more appealing than some of the other options floating around.
