Great side considering, agree with earlier comments. Delighted to see Malakai back, Ben Vellacott seems to have gone AWOL, so perhaps the rumours of him going North of the Border may be true. I suspect Josh is being rested.

In the squad for Sunday vs. Quins, thinking it is our new Georgian lock but he is already announced? Thoughts anyone?

A Christmas gift I expect, he is cramming and looking for his flag. Are there any opticians on the board, as he needs help there as well ;-)

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Zach Injury Update
« on: December 30, 2020, 10:29:43 AM »
Yeah if you watch it you can see Bassett is properly slow compared to James who is full tilt.
Unfortunately Dobby did not commit James at all so he was always at full tilt. I'm sure DR thought it would be a simple run in due to Josh's pace but he was not taking the ball at full tilt, giving James an advantage.

Undoubtedly the pitch did not help Josh's traction to pick up speed quickly.

This - accelerating on a loose surface is much harder than maintaining pace. Josh looks like he is trying to accelerate and the ground provides little to push against. On a decent surface, James wouldn't have got close.

Agree with this, when you see him try to push off the sand is clearly impeding him, James was running from a  firmer surface, into the sanded area, with momentum so had the pace advantage. IMO, the sand cost us two tries and caused a significant head injury to a player. I also agree with earlier comments that tactical sanding was at play as our wingers do like to get on the end of a cross field kick in the corner, the Sale coaching team will have analysed this and set the pitch up accordingly, the sand being entirely admissible as we have had so much rain.

From that angle, Bruce Lee would be pleased with that. Seriously, he does seem to be looking directly at Will.

I just watched the incident on BT Sport and Yarde does look to dive onto Zach instead of giving up the chase, I think that will be looked at, as will De Klerk's high boot. TBH, there wasn't much between the two sides. We were less profligate than Sale and Steve Diamond's departure seems to have upset the camp. Big positives for me JTA (agree on MoM, and i was surprised when Rowlands got it), Charlie what a back up for Jacob and Lima (notwithstanding the stepping in) but his kicking and all round play was much improved. Sale with all of their Saffa firepower always looked second best.

Barbeary's ankle is a worry but we are well covered in the back row, so not overly worried, depends on the injury of course.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Championship to start in March

The two conference model with the EAs and Ealing in separate groups is contrived, and blatant. It seems that no matter how far the EAs transgress from what is right and proper, and their total lack of respect towards the rest of the rugby family, everything is done by the powers that be to help them.

I for one, would not miss them at all after everything that has gone on. I am pretty sure most fans feel the same. Their players are still bleating about how they have been wronged, the cheating was hiding in plain sight, not once did any of the I suspect, complicit players do the right thing.

I just hope more players like Jack Singleton (i.e.out on loan) look for ways out. Sadly the inner chamber of Farrell, George, Itoje and Briefcase will 'tough it out' on large salaries playing against teams that they will give a hiding to every week, and continue to represent England, as EJ is blind to 'doing the right thing'. I was hoping I had got over my EA angst but after reading the proposed Championship approach then it all bubbled to the surface again.

Bruce Jack Wines at first glance looks like someone who complains a lot  ;)

BP win away, I'll take that all day long.

On a tangent, I rather enjoyed the commentator. There were echoes of Bill McLaren in his voice and I thought he brought his co-commentators in well.

Oh, and beating Ryan was an additional pleasure.
Me too regarding the win, a BP win in Wales is welcome, we looked good but sloppy, comfortably the better side. Dan was immense. Nice to win again, I am content, not delirious but content!

I’m happy with the performance to be honest.

But we’ve definitely left at least 10 points out on the pitch so far.

Just need to be more clinical.

Very happy with Charlie so far. Very mature performance from such a young lad, in such a big game.
The cross field kick that Josh almost got on the end of was text-book, agree he is playing well against a very physical Dragons team.

Struck me as odd that the bans were halved for co- operating ,when it says they had denied it. Doesn’t sound like cooperating to me.

+1 - total nonsense, lying as a lame attempt to protect themselves should attract a harsher punishment. What message does that send to youngsters, it's okay to lie as the punishment will be halved.
