Title: EPCR Challenge Cup quarter final opponents
Post by: Steve from Cov on April 16, 2022, 09:39:30 PM
Edinburgh leading Bath 22-19 with c.10 minutes to go.

Come on Bath - we could do with a home game.

Looking like a trip to Edinburgh : 29 - 19 now.

And an encounter with a former member of our parish.

If you are an Edinburgh member tickets apparently go on sale tomorrow. Everyone else 25th. Which suggests day of match should be known soon.

On the dreaded plastic.
At least we get a chance to spend the week training on it. I’m sure that played a part in the victory against Glaws.

The last-eight draw

Gloucester, winners in 2006 and 2015, join three other English sides, Wasps, London Irish and Sarries, in the last eight, along with two Scottish sides, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and two French sides, three-time former European champions Toulon and Lyon.

Edinburgh v Wasps

Lyon v Glasgow

Toulon v London Irish

Gloucester v Saracens

Ties to be played weekend of 6-8 May

This may be the second tier European tournament but it is no less important. Strong sides mean this is no easy competition, however given our 14 years without any silverware we have to go all out to win this. Lifting a trophy and champions cup qualification will be huge for us!

Yes, 5 wins on the bounce now. Every chance to make it 6 this weekend. Just keep winning - confidence is building - and who knows where we will end up.

A quick read of the Scottish press today looks forward to a Challenge Cup semi between Glasgow and Edinburgh.  Nice to know both Lyon and Wasps are discounted. But then we aren't ripping up trees.

How’s this happened? Sure all last round had neutrals? Not unduly concerned as ref will hopefully bordering on showing to be absolutely non biased, but Edinburgh may have more understanding of his style of reffing. Perhaps we can request he guests at Worcester game?

I thought it may be April 1st and Neils was winding us up as no date was given so I checked EPCR website.

Maybe them playing a belated April fool. No dates but Scottish officials in Edinburgh and French in Toulon.  None at Lyon or Glaws.  I've concluded it's just incompetence on their part and when all dates and officials are confirmed it will be different.

The Toulon v Irish game currently has an all French officials team, others showing no officials yet, might just be putting together the officials from each country before reallocating to games.

Must admit new names to me unless Fin Brown is the former player.

Website shows the date as Saturday 7th, no time.

But does say date and time TBC as well.

I imagine that they will be. Not everyone has BT Sport and I bet that income from the streaming has been welcome revenue for them.

I only asked the question because PRTV only shows games that are not being broadcast by BT.

Not quite - our match against Biarritz was shown live on beIN Sports in France, and that was the feed that was used (pirated ?) by the Russian site.

Grove-White ends up running touch in Toulon, not a bad gig apart from supporting Adamson!

A slightly strained household for us at the moment and the better half is very, very keen to go to Edinburgh.  But (for a change), i'd rather be a little more sensible and not burn through £500+ just as we're coming to the end of a particularly expensive couple of months on house stuff.  It's hard being sensible sometimes.

If we get through to the Semis, that could land quite nicely for us.

Keeping my fingers crossed that whatever Cup we're in next season, we get some decent teams from an Away Trip perspective.

There doesn't appear to be any seats available on flights to/from Birmingham from 6th-8th May and 2 x return rail tickets are £287 - the journey home is 6.25 hrs - so its a 'no' from us I'm afraid.

Shame.

Jeez can fly for much cheaper than that from down south. Rail out of Edinburgh on a sunday has always been bonkers. Current cheap rail from the south is Lumo but not sure how often it stops before Newcastle.

Last stop north is Stevenage unfortunately.
