Given the way Wasps marketing department operates I've never known them end a string of announcements on some bad news. This weeks leavers communications are just that. So what comes next? We've had the re-signers. It can only be new signings. If that is correct which positions do we want to see new blood in? I'd like some second row cover and a back row utility player. Think we're well stocked otherwise.

Yes I think that'll happen quite soon to lessen the blow of having lost Ash and Nemo in such a short period of time. Both iconic players and almost irreplaceable, but fingers crossed!

I would think any signings now might come later for the new next season rather than for the end of this season particularly if they are southern hemisphere or championship players.
-
Have we had the promotions from the academy yet? Is there another Cardall to come through yet? I think he plays in the back row, but maybe not.
I can't see us signing in any new 'names' though. I expect some big name players will be out of contract and not finding a home this year. Times are hard.

Think you might be right about some big names potentially available later probably at reduced rates so another reason to wait and see.

Nope
-
I’m not sure we’ll see any more second row signings after Edwards and look wel covered across the backs with a lot of utility players.
Back row worries me a bit, nothing to do with our top first six available players across those positions - just that whoever our 7th choice is (unless we play a second row or young hooker there on emergencies) will not have much experience at all.
-
I dont think we can judge this season on what is usual.
If we get to next year and we still exist and have a squad who are vaguely competitive I'll be happy.

This with nobs on. Or knobs if you wish. Seeing the apparent battle going on between players and clubs and the comments that some clubs could disappear I just hope Wasps are being sensible.

So we could have a back row sometime of Young Young (or is he Old Young now or just Young?) Old Willis and Young Willis?!
-
Chunky,
That is my dream back row:
J Willis
Young
T Willis
Proper Jackel back row
-
What about this one as a commentators nightmare?
J Willis
T Willis
Will Wilson
-
Brilliant.

I had a quick look at Premiership and UK based Pro 14 players who have been released and two names stand out for back row cover; Matt Garvey and John Barclay.
Both have their injury issues and are the higher side of 30. Barclay is apparently reconsidering his plans to retire. I doubt either will cost a fortune, and one could fill the void for the next 6-24 months.

I wonder if there were some announcements planned for next week. The Nemo announcement was put out by his new employers, not a leaving announcement from Wasps, almost looked like their hands were forced.

Yes also on the Offy no bye bye comment from the player which is usual. Makes you wonder a bit.
-
Neils, I was thinking the exact same thing.
-
Ditto
-
And the pound remains strong against the Rand.
Has Nemo been promised additional representation?
-
If he asked Wasps for more than they were willing to spend. I'm sure he had interest elsewhere. With the players we've got coming through, it may have just made more financial sense to let him go, regardless of how hard that was.

Lots of if, buts, maybe in there. I am sure we will find out more in time about his exit.
I think we might actually get a signing of an older name at some point if the right one comes up and it suits. We picked up some pretty good players when money was tight- Southwell, Betsen, Smith, Goode types. Someone might want another year at the end of an international career without the big bucks. People enjoy playing and experiencing new clubs, or might have connections to the area. A big name mega bucks signing must be out of the question, surely?

Sione Kalamafoni has left Tigers, allegedly going to Scarlets but that seems to be taking an age since it was rumoured. He wouldn't have to move house and would provide some strength and experience as cover, just a thought....

I we need a replacement surely just promote from within? I thought Wilson looked impressive. Especially given the financial circumstances.
