Thats the thing isn't it, there are mass callings for using him at 15 as with other academy products based on no actual knowledge or insight as to how they are going over the full 80.

Dai getting lambasted when for not dropping guys straight into the team from the academy.

When they're ready, they're ready.

It's a tough call for him but if he has serious international ambitions he's got to move at the end of his current contract. That he's gettingselected despite not being in Walesand with their backrow strengths, suggests to me they rate him highly enough forthe risk of moving to be worth taking.

I dont class 2 caps against Pacific nations in a near 2 year span as being 'selected'.

Given his form over the last 3 years, i'd say he has been overlooked.

I'd say no, i'm not sure he's appreciated enough by Wales to upsticks on a maybe.  Being constantly overlooked will put doubt in your mind.

Why would the 2+1 theory not apply? Based on when he signed it, the first 2 years was up. Then he has the option to play the third year, or leave. He chose to leave. Wasps offered him a new contract on more money, but he said no, money wasn't the issue. It is a break clause that he could trigger after two years. I doubt that there was any 'training ground' clause.

Is it a break clause? That's confirmed? Because to me a 2+1 is an option, he doesn't have to sign on for a further year, so for a release he'd have to evoke a clause.

I'm not saying there was a training clause, multiple media outlets are confirming that, i'm saying just a clause and don't agree it was a 2+1 in this case.

Exactly Raggs.

Winning medals doesn't pay the mortgage off as quickly as a nice payrise, be it there or somewhere else. There's an incentive to stay beyond a paid annual holiday and being able to slap every team mate on the arse for making a tackle.
The whole 'players have short careers' quote works both ways and i'm sure it applies to Sarries employees doesn't it? ..maybe it doesn't, maybe being part of the Wolfpack goes beyond being remunerated.

Slice it, dice it..whatever you want...add some eye's, some common sense and some maths and the dish is the same.

Is it any different to all the 2+1 contracts that we offer?

For all I know, Daly was on a 2+1 contract too... If that's the case, has he done anything wrong?

A bit of devil's advocate here... But what if the contract conversation went something like this.........
ED: what's happening with our new training facilities, boss?
DY: it's all in hand, everything is moving in the right direction
ED: what if SISU screw us over again?
DY: we have a plan B as well
ED: hmmmmm
DY: ok, here's a 3 year contract set out as 2 years plus an additional 1. If you don't like where we are in 2 years then you're free to look around after that

That would be a fairly standard 2+1 contract, but would also have been put there due to question marks around the training facilities.

Its been widely reported he used a break clause, meaning the 2+1 theory doesn't apply.

... We're rumoured to be getting Vellacott still.

If Wasps are on form, they will wait till Simmo announces he has signed for (whoever), or that whoever signs him announces that. THEN Wasps will follow with the goods news that ...

I will be sad t see Simmo go. When he is on form, he plays well and works hard, like he did last weekend.

I like Simmo too, just sad that the traits took him to the Eng fringe seem to have been lost and he has a tendency to be injured. When he plays well he is quality

I thought that the salary cap rules attempted to cover add-ones, even down to giving money to a family member not being a way around it.

You may be right but lets face it, administering it is easier to say than do.

I guess there is a good chance of direct pay plus *add ons* elsewhere, in whatever form you see fit, image rights, sponsorship, PR, services etc...

Do we need a commentary on the DW site? If we are interested we can just go and look.

I believe this to be a discussion board, not just opinion.

With the Daly news now being official, I think I'll definitely stay away from there for a while

Wont even visit, whats the point.

So he is going but:
- nothing to do with the training facilities
- nothing suggesting he is joining Sarries - so they won’t have to pay us anything as compensation - Release clause, no one will have to pay us anything
- he had signed up for another season - so why have we let him go early. - Release clause
We could keep debating the whys through until the next close season. - Or just move on from it.
