Better make sure that any agreement to bring in a subsidy system isn?t agreed on a URC away day at Saracens. Otherwise it will be known as the Barnet formula ? with the end result that the Scottish franchises chase the bottom of the table as they compete for the biggest handout, while blaming the English for their woes.

Contract them to URC, then go from there. Probably be enough to get around tue EU rules.

I do wonder how the RFU and PRL would approach administration of a fourth club.
Would they pull out all the stops to save and keep it in the Prem, thereby incurring the wrath of Wasps, Worcs and LI.
Would they promote Jersey do fill the gap, making a mockery of the rules on ground requirements?
Or would they suddenly decide an 8 team league is the way forward.
My guess is that the only thing we can be sure of at this stage is that neither the RFU nor the PRL will have considered this eventuality. Instead they?ll continue to make it up as they go along.

Yet more making up strategy on the hoof:
1. We need a 14 team premiership
2. No, wait. We need a 10 team premiership
3. Oops, better look like we care about the Championship, so let?s have a cup competition between the two
4. Phew, we?ve got air cover for ring-fencing
5. Oh wait, again, we need to set a timetable, so let?s just say soon
6. Oops, again. Wasps can?t get funding because of the uncertainty we?ve created
7. Woohoo, problem solved. We?ll rescind Wasps? licence and blame it on the uncertainty for the Championship caused by their slowness in getting funding
8. Oops, yet again. We seem to have put the game in a death spiral.
9. No sweat (as Prince Andrew would say) let?s create a franchise system for the Prem and the Championship. Ring-fence the ring-fence. We could call it the Motte and Bailey.
Tune in next week to see if either the PRL or RFU can find its own arse in the dark. Spoiler alert ? they won?t, but they?ll be sure to take some further crass decisions to keep you all entertained.

EPCR won?t exactly have to take a decision here. It?ll just be a case of seeing which Prem teams are left with their heads just above water ? in other words those standing on piles of their owners? hidden gold.

The mission accomplished fiasco was in Abu Dhabi, in the grounds of the Emirate?s Palace Hotel, on a surface wholly unsuited to rugby. I even went to the game as it was about a 30min walk from my flat. The logic for the event seemed to have more to do with Etihad?s then sponsorship of Quins rather than anything that might actually have benefited Wasps. In other word, it was just one of the many cock-ups that eventually led to our demise.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: English rugby 'crying out for alignment' to help come out of 'survival mode'
« on: May 13, 2023, 08:22:41 AM »
That group are delusional. They?re blissfully ignorant that the 10-team bore-fest is merely the next stage of the death spiral. Survival mode would be a step up from where the game is at the moment.

How about a role in the Championship? His kicking alone would probably get you somewhere near the top of the table.

Don?t teams going into administration in the off-season simply pick up a 25 point penalty for the following season? If that?s the case and as there?s no relegation, Irish might be wise to get it over and done with as soon as the final whistle blows on the Prem Final

The idea of a ten team league seems to be based entirely on what a few owners have decided is good for the game, without a moment?s thought for the fans.
In truth, what we have is the very essence of a producer-lead service where the owners? invisible hands are acting in their own self-interest, what ever they claim to the contrary.
As the likes of British Leyland have demonstrated down the years, such businesses shed customers ? if they ever had them ? become even more of a basket case and even harder to turnaround.
The ten team league is on a par with the Morris Marina. And, like a car that is more aerodynamic going backwards, it is almost certainly doomed before it gets to market.

There?s a good chance that resources are somewhat stretched at the moment. I?m prepared to be a bit more patient, particularly as there?s no probably not much more to tell than we know already. Something along the lines of, we?re looking to play at Sixways, we need to land the finances and we need to recruit. Once that?s done, we?ll have a tickets to sell and an idea of what the price should be.

10 team league ? playing the same boring teams, with the same boring rugby, with the same boring results.
More likely than not, the law of unintended consequences will result in more traditional fans being lost to the game than new fans are attracted.
