Wasps Rugby Discussion / New species of Wasp!
« on: December 30, 2022, 04:21:15 PM »
From today's Times:

Scientists discovered 85 new kinds of wasp this year, along with 84 new beetles and 6 species of frogs smaller than a 1p coin. There was even a 35 million-year-old insect trapped in Ukrainian amber and 11 new varieties of algae...

This did not surprise Dr Gavin Broad, principal curator in charge of insects at the Natural History Museum, who said that the order Hymenoptera was the most species-rich in nature. “It’s just a surprise that wasps don’t come top every year,” he said. “Watch out for lots more wasps next year!”

I think we can add one more new species to that, can't we?

Can't do links on phone, it's on the Beeb website.

I think BT have grounds to kick up a stink this season, the product being supplied is not the product they thought they were getting. Admittedly that depends on the wording of the contract, but you can bet that they will be ultra-cautious for next season.

The trouble is that the BBC seems to have little or no interest in Rugby Union.  Wendy ball, yes.  League, a bit. I'm not whinging; just stating an evident fact.  Shame on them.

Like all sports, the Beeb's interest extends as far as events for which they have broadcast rights. It enables them to say how wonderful they are, and the Beeb's favourite subject is always themselves.

Yesterday's Times had several articles which broadly said: he's a maverick, some players loved him, some hated him, we won a lot if games, then we didn't.

Standard stuff for a club coach but do you want players to be unhappy about playing for their country? It should be a huge honour, something to look forward to beforehand and to look back on with pride and pleasure afterwards.

To my uneducated eye what we used to have was a game where the ball was passed and kicked and there was some physical contact.

Now we have a game of physical contact with kicking and some passing.

I think Eddie is in need of a HIA.

I cannot think of any part of it that was even bordering on the acceptable.

Clearly EJ believes that the only thing that matters is the World Cup. Everything else is barely secondary.

That's not the sort of thing that people who have shelled out not inconsiderable sums for a ticket at Twickenham want to hear.

I get the feeling that this is just another crowd of people watching the sinking ship, only they are louder than other bystanders.

It won't bring the club back, it won't change the mad opinion that the club game will be better with fewer clubs who will somehow make more money from fewer games.

I think that the powers that be will reject the covid appeal as other clubs may try to take advantage of it and restructure their businesses.

On that basis our goose is cooked. The action taken against us seems to be pour encourager les autres. If we are casualties of the RFU trying to maintain and expand its power base then that is a price they are willing to have someone else pay.

I know that my interest in the game has diminished of late but have they changed the way the game is scored?

Is it now like billiards, do you get points when your players canon into the opposition?

It's bad enough that watching Wasps isn't an option, it's a whole lot worse when this is the alternative.

I can't summon up the enthusiasm to watch a club game. I'm hoping that the AIs will provide therapy but with Jones at the helm it might fo the opposite.

I used to watch Prem games because I had some sort of interest in the outcome, how it affected us. Now that reason has gone, and I've managed one half of a game before thinking "you did nothing to help us, you're picking the bones from our corpse and paying them sodall".

There are supposedly seven stages of grief, it's going to take a while.

Hang on a minute.

If the surviving ten are going to keep afloat by bringing in more fans for fewer games, how does that work if there is insufficient capacity right now?

Will he be known as Biyi ‘Alo Alo’ seeing as its a French club…?

I’ll get me coat…

Given that their name is pronounced "Rassing" I've always felt that they should go the whole hog and change their name to "Rassing Frassing Rick Rastardly" in honour of Muttley and the rest of the Wacky Races teams.
