Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: ACL Updates?

Gilbert not happy!  :) :) :)

Gilbert also likely to be out of a dayjob with news about BBC Local Radio Presenters being at risk breaking yesterday.  It's typical SISU though, wanted to wait until it was too late and make a lowball offer.  Cue the lawsuits at how they've been unfairly treated...

I've got chargeback claims with Monzo (and their virtual credit card, Flex, for my ST) and CapOne (Parking).

CapOne have so far said they can't open the *.pdf copies of Parking Purchases and the letter from FRP, so that's been re-submitted.  Monzo have said it's in-situ and will hear back by early March (something to do with the timeframes as stipulated by Mastercard and it's a worst-case).  So we'll see.

Meanwhile, a family member has been told by Lloyds they'll have theirs back shortly.

I think it sits with ACL, apart from the HMRC bill which sits with the Club as it were.

No evidence at all to back this up, but technically Derek is an ex owner as well at this point.

I'd be amazed if Derek came back to be involved in the owning of Wasps and don't believe he's part of the bid approved by FRP.

Tweet from BB:

Leicester Tigers have appointed Matt Everard as senior academy coach.

A double ouch.  Charlie hurts, but mainly as it's a long-term deal and not short-term injury cover for Pollard.  This also stings given how highly the coaches talk of Matty Everard and that he was supposedly part of the plans the current bid had.

I suspect whoever is driving it from the Wasps Legends will also be cahoots with Chris Holland (given he owns EPIC, it makes sense for him to be on-board with whatever bid might be being proposed).

That leaves the big question of, where's the money coming from or is Chris Holland wealthy enough to be able to fund us initially?

I think when you look at the squad, it really depends on whose likely to secure a role elsewhere and who isn't.

Out (Confirmed): Bassett, Alo

Out and confirmed, but Josh is season-long injury cover (at the moment).  From what Lee and Vaughan has said, there's plenty of players that would like season-long loans but would like the option to come back to Wasps if we're salvageable and can pay wages.

Contracts could stipulate that anyone picked for international duty are paid by the RFU for that period and not the club i.e flexible central contracts with no recompense payments required. Allows for changing international squads as required so anyone can be included.

If there's an international break, this probably isn't needed.  Would help the RFU finances as well by not paying £80k per EPS player or whatever the figure is for the availability for training/internationals.

Of course, international breaks are fine but doesn't necessarily allow for training camps.  But then, England have better access to the squad than ever and they're crap.  So perhaps less is more for them as well.

Given that we have no players, coaches, staff, stadium or anything, what value does a merger offer to Coventry rugby club?

Yes I take your point, probably beyond that now.

So probably more likely that Cov could offer some of our players employment if it strengthens their squad? That would be good if any of them want to stay local.

There's a lot that would need to fall into place for this.

I guess it depends on the appetite for promotion from CRFC hierarchy as well as where funding would come from to do so.  If Wasps were liquidated with no hope of return, then it's plausible that with some funds players could sign for CRFC to bolster their squad and push for promotion.1

BPA seems like it's in a decent location (from what i've read online) and closer to the town centre etc... whether it could be developed to 10,001+ and be financially viable without any other non-matchday revenues gets us back to square one, especially with a lack of P-Share.

If we can't sustain 13 teams, how could two leagues of 10 or 8 and 12 be sustainable with less games?

Fewer games = lower operating costs.  Not just on matchdays, but also on things like squad depth, travel costs etc... and i'm sure you'd bring the salary cap down to reflect smaller squads to further balance things out.

Few stadiums sell out currently, so filling them across fewer games will be better for the Clubs financially.  I also suspect that most STH would be up for paying the same for 9 home games as they do for 12 currently on the proviso that they'd have 'full squads' available (unless injured) so no more Sarries v Quins with their contingent, but no Smith etc...

The latter is also the key element (IMO - predictability of internationals playing) that is the major barrier to more casual fans spending their cash on coming to Club Rugby.

It’s more evidence of a couple of clubs running the game.

Oh come on, it's a daft view to suggest that a Club who is increasing their Stadium beyond the already 10,001+ minimum and needs to temporarily cap attendance to do so should be relegated and stripped on their P-Shares.

Especially when the certification is out of the hands of the Club and in the hands of Central Government.

The problem is getting a collective agreement on anything amongst the PRL and Team Owners.

Look maybe this is a bit whacky but with Wasps and Cov Rugby playing in the Championship would it make sense to merge? Does that give a better chance of competing with Ealing Trailfinders?

OK OK yes I’m probably still feeling the effects of the anaesthetics!

Still not worn off yet?

It feels a bit distasteful to be suggesting mergers with other clubs as a survival tactic for us.  Although I do wonder how things could, or might play out if we were liquidated with no chance of survival and if CRFC had aspirations to become a Premiership Club.

Had Ealing or Doncaster won the league, they would have been afforded the same dispensation.  So there's hardly any favouritism happening here.

I thought Ealing did win last year.

My bad - I meant the year that Sarries came back up (and got the dispensation)

Hang on, they've been reading this board.

2 divisions of 10, KO style Prem Cup, International Breaks.  It's basically my Premiership Rugby manifesto (and plenty of others i'm sure).  Perhaps I should apply for a job.
