Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Ex Wasps signing for new clubs

Also a pleasure watching Treviso these days with Jacob, Paolo, Fekitoa, Watson and Minozzi all potential picks

Edinburgh v Benetton Treviso Friday evening, tempting to book a nice weekend in Edinburgh with a stop off on the way into the city.

After 150 years, the rules called laws need changing?

A chance to set aside self interest? Delusional. Why would they? Even more troubling - why does he expect them to.
Yep, bordering on ridiculous.

So which club will be next? Tigers, Chiefs and Falcons have all been mentioned in articles.

Let's hope they don't fold under the pressure!
;D

Apparently so many are going to the game that the traffic is stationary.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Cray Valley Paper Mill v Charlton
« on: November 04, 2023, 08:55:08 AM »
Just watched a news piece about Cray Valley Paper Mill who will be playing Charlton tomorrow. Despite dizzy heights football's top leagues have reached, football has maintained the connection between the levels of the game. Contrast rugby putting up barriers to promotion and even having different rules for lower leagues.

It's the 'for peanuts' bit that once again comes from the thinking that rugby is equivalent to football and NFL. When an entire squad in the top level rugby club collectively receives the same as one average top league footballer, you need different solutions.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: URC?
« on: October 27, 2023, 05:31:02 PM »

FWIW if Wasp joined the URC, I would probably not bother to go & watch them. Its not a competition that holds any interest to me nor, IMO, is it one that most of the teams seem to care much about. Some of the line ups from last season were ridiculous.
If Wasps really want to play in a league that "is fit for purpose and reflects the values that Wasps and others adhere to" then they should join the Top 14. Now they would be games I would pay to watch!
Yes, I know that's even more of a non starter than joining the URC

Yes please, Allez, Allez, Allez. Kent is quite well connected to France!

Why does the RFU have to sanction it? If it isn't in their competition surely they have no control.

As it stands I would be more likely to pay for Top14. Premiership should have put more effort into preserving the interest it had rather than thinking it could attract people that just aren't interested. The figures haven't yet accounted for the loss of some London Irish viewers.

Why does it feel like they will do this for a couple of years before running out of finance, changing their mind and doing something completely different. Meanwhile several more clubs with long histories and their many supporters will disappear. It's sad that a once positive supporter like me has become so negative.

Maybe the 'investors' wanted the opportunity to get into the premiership.

Four clubs have gone in one year. Sorry, but if that doesn't suggest a structural problem then I don't know what does.

Nelly's car analogy feels about right to me.

Commentator - England have arrived at the World Cup!   Jeez no real concept of the opposition.

Urgh! That and the Henry the fifth comment.
Ben Kay doing his best to try and balance.
Well done England, you beat the lowest ranked team who are made up of semi-professional players.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / England v Chile Match Report
« on: September 23, 2023, 08:12:17 AM »
After a beautiful soporific display of ball handling that would challenge the leather working skills of a master sadler, England are sailing through to the knockout stages.

There were times in the game where it started to look doubtful as errors by Chile went un-cheered and the fist pumps looked decidedly lack luster. It turned out there was nothing to worry about, Borthwick was on the case. He was seen to mumble something to Sinfield who clearly had no idea what Borthwick was on about, but brought Ben Earl on. The change was immediate, fist pumps, double fist pumps, whoops and cheers all flowed with aplomb.

The RFU made a robust statement pointing out that it is now clear that England's critics are totally wrong. The statement noted how England have demonstrated their creativity, pointing to the multitude of slightly different ways to kick the ball. The RFU council also commented "It is about time the nation start to realise they are watching the game incorrectly and have misunderstood the England games. They need to learn to celebrate with the enthusiasm demonstrated by the team."
