Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: overseas player
« on: April 25, 2024, 05:41:01 PM »
The interesting thing for me is that the French clubs actually want English players. Given that they have quite strict rules on foreign players in each squad & all of the southern hemisphere to chose from I wonder if English players are relatively cheap compared to others & what that says about salaries in the prem!

The SH players are offered more closer to home in Japan. That is why English players are the new All Blacks vis-a-vis French teams. Ready made source over the channel to replace the one that has been diverted to Japan.

The really important bit 'ongoing'.
I won't support Wasps (or any club) under any circumstances if they sign up to something with no pathway to the prem, not even if they play in my back garden. That door has to be smashed down.

He has been doing Sarries a favour for a long, long time. He knows where the bread is buttered, and if it is buttered in our direction then great.

Thing is, even if the RFU win the hand, and they do hold all the cards regarding the championship, they still have to get those in the prem to agree to something that makes it work. In other words, relegation. And not just for Newcastle, for any  bastard at the bottom- Bath, Cheetahs, whoever. Otherwise it still is not in our interests to join.

Also worth noting that Farrell will be out there, so French rugby going to give great service in keeping away one of the most overrated England players of the professional era ever to have worn the shirt.

I would rather 1 than 2, unless 2 actually has promotion, ensured, regardless of stadium.
It won't.

Can't see prem 2 going anywhere.
Can't see 28k stadium.
Might just see a Kent based Wasps team in the URC.
Looking most like 1, slight hint of 3.

And as long as those loses don't include excessive salary over the cap, which is not the case for at least a couple of clubs.

I will vote for anyone, Farage, Corbyn, Johnson, Sunak, Truss, Starmer, Davey,  Marx (Karl, Groucho, Marks and Spencers, I don't care) who promises to call in the loans and sends the shitshow off stage.
Bonus points for bankrupting Tigers, whose fans met our demise with little short of glee.

Pretty obvious overall figures will be up as it is now on terrestrial, it doesn't say more on TNT.

Take those away and compare to a few seasons ago.

Moreover, with every game to be televised they will be claiming records next year.

Most here feel like that I suspect.
Losing Irish and Wasps in particular won't help TV viewing figures.

Saw Glasgow Cardiff at the weekend.
Game had some ambition, despite very poor weather. Not much kicking all told.
6n had some good stuff, but it was diminished for me as I was not seeing players in white that I had been watching all year.

To each their own, but I won't be watching prem rugby again unless Wasps are in it. Not so much as a second.

Afraid so. Fwiw I don't think we would have set the league alight. Noises were being made about us being a bit more pragmatic, and frankly there were better teams at doing that.
Yes we had a great back row, but so does everyone. Most teams had superb 8s coming out their arse.
Maybe now we would be challenging for top table, maybe not. Despite the obvious quality I suspect we would have been in the melee, not looking down from on high.
It still hurts, I honestly have been watching zero prem rugby, I don't expect others to follow my lead, but won't understand those who do. Currently watching a bit of pro 14, not a great competition,  but it doesn't have cap cheats in.

Italy superb, late consolation points for Wales made it look respectable. It really wasn't, and Italy finally have something to build on.

England game was a corker.
For most of the last few years England have been held back by Farrell. Test match animal! Without him at 10 or 12 England can develop a plan of attack  as they have begun to do this 6n.

If true it evens up the bullshit red England had in the reverse fixture last year that ruined the game. Last I looked trying to regather a ball that you have knocked on you had no right to be touching and running into a static defender wasn't a red, but hey ho, bad decisions happen.
