Wasps Rugby Discussion / Well That was fun...
« on: January 24, 2023, 01:20:35 PM »
I still have no idea what happened to the forums, but essentially I ended up doing a clean install in a new place and moving it across.

Got a few things to tidy up to make it look right but it does seem to be working again now!

Please use this thread to point out any residual bits I may have missed. And WELCOME BACK!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / SUPPORT THE FORUM - 2023
« on: January 13, 2023, 09:50:22 AM »
Hi,

Obviously things have changed over the last year since I last asked you to support this place.  For fairly obvious and predictable reasons this forum has got somewhat quieter, but I, like a lot of people I suspect, am hoping that at some stage we will have a team to support again soon.  And so after much thought I have decided to try to keep this place going.

I've met some lovely people because of it, and I suspect I'm not alone in that.

So if you are able to help with a small donation to help keep the forum running in 2023 I would be extremely grateful.  You can do that by clicking on the big blue link here:

DONATE

This is a Paypal link, and connects to my personal account that I set up when running an online martial arts shop, so don't be too surprised by the name.

Thank you in advance, I genuinely appreciate your help.

If you aren't in a position to donate anything please don't worry, the site is free to use and I fully intend to keep it that way.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Another reason not to watch!

With no interest at all in the Domestic game it's hard to be excited by the international game.

This does not help!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Memories
« on: October 23, 2022, 10:15:14 AM »
We've shared a lot of amazing times here on this board, amazing wins, glorious moments of skill, getting to meet players, and more besides.

I thought that rather than focus on the depressing situation that we're stuck in I thought it might be nice to have somewhere we can share some of our favourite memories of being a Wasp.

I'll start.

I used to run a big martial arts event every six month in Balsall Common, and in November 2015 I managed to schedule it so I could go straight from the event to the Ricoh to watch our home game against Toulon.

I met up with my old mate who is sadly a Tigers fan and we took our seats in the stands expecting to see the European Champions smash Wasps. How wrong were we...

That game had everything. Smashley hitting people like a freight train, Wade drawing crowds of defenders before releasing Halai to score, Hughes in imperious form scoring twice. And probably my favourite try of all time, Jackson chipping over the oncoming defence, some magical interplay between him, Gaskell, and Simpson before he managed to score.

By the end of it even my Tigers mate was cheering for us.

For me that was a major turning point in our fortunes and it was an amazing game to be at.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Sarries again

So despite having built a new stand it turns out that the EA's ground still does not meet the capacity requirements for the Premiership despite their special dispensation.

Seems the rules don't apply to some people.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / To any and all Wasps Players
« on: October 17, 2022, 03:29:13 PM »
I have no idea if any of the players frequent this site, but if any of you are reading this - Men, Women, Rugby, or Netball - I run a small social media agency focussing on video.

If you want a completely free of charge no obligation chat on zoom about the possibility of building a monetised following on Youtube just let me know.

Thank you for all the joy you have brought us over the years.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Missed opportunity
« on: October 16, 2022, 07:08:38 PM »
If one of the other Premiership clubs, any of them, had come out publicly and offered unwavering support to Wasps. Stating that they shouldn't be relegated, that they shouldn't lose the P Share....

They'd have picked up a load of new fans.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Trolls and the forum

I should apologise for the trolls who have slipped through the net of late.

I have taken the decision to close the forum to new registrations until we find out what is actually going to happen.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / A record breaking performance

That was the worst second half against Gloucester in Premiership history.

Nice to see normal service has returned. For a brief moment in the first half I thought we'd actually managed to find a way to hit our potential.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Big News

I'm hearing rumours of a big news story about to break about a Premiership club with financial problems and it isn't us...

Anyone heard anything?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / The Phantom Smiter - And changes to the forum
« on: February 01, 2022, 04:46:46 PM »
There have been all sorts of problems of late with people being repeatedly smited (smitten?) for no apparent reason. And to be honest that doesn't fit the ethos of the Glee Club we are known to be.

So I have removed the smite option, and instead have added a big shiny button. I have no changed anyone's totals, but if you would like me to reset yours, or even just remove the negative points just drop me a Private message in confidence.

Let me know what you think.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / ANNUAL APPEAL - Please support the forum in 2022
« on: January 05, 2022, 01:38:00 PM »
Firstly, Happy New Year to you all, and thank you for continuing to make this such a pleasant place to be.  I know it hasn't been easy to keep our "glee club" reputation up at times recently (a name I am quite fond of), but in the main I think we've done a pretty fine job.

It's now 2022 and so I am asking if you could help support the forum and contribute to the ongoing running costs.

It is not compulsory, and there is no minimum amount.  Every penny will help, and be massively appreciated.

For full transparency the link will take you to a Paypal donation page which links to my own personal paypal account, which was set up when I ran an online Martial Arts store, so don't be surprised by the name.

Thank you massively in advance!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / So what actually is the problem?
« on: December 05, 2021, 04:21:12 PM »
It's pretty clear that since the final, where we lost out after one wayward throw (whether you blame the thrower or the person who called it is irrelevant really) that we have nose dived.

We were winning constantly, as a squad we had rock-solid self-belief, and there wasn't a team in the GP who wanted to face us.

That feels like a long time ago now.

A lot of the squad is the same, and we've even added some quality in some places.  The second row looks as good as it ever has, and our choice at hooker is almost embarrassing. we have the best 9 in the game, and a 10 who has shown he could be just as good if he can find the consistency.

So what is the problem?  Why are we unable to win anymore?

I don't buy that this is simply down to injuries. It isn't that we are fighting hard, pushing teams, and just losing out despite moments of brilliance, we simply look defeated from the beginning.

As a team we are less than the sum of our parts.

Jacob has come in for a lot of stick recently (some from me) and it probably isn't entirely fair.  The big frustration there is twofold.  Firstly that he can be SO good that it is even more crushing when he isn't.  And secondly because we really need someone to pull the strings and drag this team out of the slump it is in, and he is perfectly placed to do that at 10. Maybe it is asking too much of him, but again that is simply down to the fact people see he COULD be that person, yet somehow isn't managing to be.  Much like the whole team to be fair.

So what is it?

Do you think it is nothing more than injuries, and things will magically improve when Joe, Jack, and Dobby are back?

Do you think it is a psychological issue? That we aren't winning because we aren't winning?  That we are caught in the vicious cycle of losing and that until someone breaks that cycle this is where we will stay?

Do you think it is coaching?  Perhaps the different coaches aren't pulling the same direction?  Or perhaps Lee isn't finding the top job as easy as he initially thought?

Personally, I am incredibly frustrated by the current situation.  When we were fighting to avoid relegation at Adam's Park during our darkest times it was pretty clear we didn't deserve to be much more successful.  The quality in our squad was a lot more inconsistent than it is now. But now, we have the quality to win, and yet we don't.

Something has to change, but I worry that the removal of relegation, and Bath being so utterly terrible means there is no impetus for us to improve.

What do you think?
