Wasps Rugby Discussion / 2023/24 season
« on: December 04, 2023, 07:48:27 AM »
Was surprised there was no season thread but as none of us are really interested it probably makes sense.

I happened to look on the BBC site this morning and there was the report on Falcons losing again, so wondered what the table was, and the league is 8 matches in, so almost at the halfway point of the season already, whilst everyone understands there are 3 missing clubs and what it meant for a reduced league this year it was definitely interesting to realise just how reduced.
In 2021/22 we were 10 rounds in at this point out of 26.

As for Falcons, 8 matches played, 8 losses, and only 4 bonus points, it's almost like the London Welsh year. Looking on Wiki it mentions a Prem vs Championship playoff (depending on Champ club eligibility) is this right, that had passed me by if it is?
But assume anyone winning the Champ will be rejected anyway, as usual.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Ugo racist abuse
« on: November 20, 2023, 08:30:09 AM »
Just been reading about the abuse aimed at Ugo at Sandy Park yesterday, he posted the 2 things on Twitter.

Quote
Ugo Monye
@ugomonye

Leaving Sandy Park and one supporter running through crowd starts shouting ?Nigga, Nigga?? disgraceful.

Not a single person said a word, challenged or even reported it.

He walks off after a mild scuffle and fans are now telling me ?We?re with you? BOLLOCKS you?re with me. You weren?t with me when you saw and heard the most blatant racism I?ve seen from a supporter at a live game. So fed up

The fact this still happens is unbelievable, Ugo also pretty unhappy that no-one reacted or said anything at the time, I can understand his frustration, but he does say after a scuffle, so did someone react, that bit was unclear for me.

If it was going to happen anywhere is anyone surprised it was at Chiefs?
Reading some of the comments and responses people still really don't get what racism is. Inevitably when Chiefs posted that they would investigate and this was unacceptable, with loads of fans saying the same, someone raised the 'tomahawk chop', followed by loads of Chiefs fans saying that's not racist! Having not watched any prem rugby since Wasps demise I have no idea if it's still sung regularly or not or if it's piped through the PA like it used to be, but it's not a great look.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Alapati Leiua
« on: August 07, 2023, 08:24:58 AM »
Always like Alapati, great player who unfortunately spent too long injured with Wasps but a lovely guy who came and played touch rugby with us a few times at Broadstreet all off his own back.

Always felt it was a shame what happened with injury and getting dropped by the French club after he left Bristol.

Spotted the following post on the Bristol RN board. Good to hear he has found a club in NZ to continue playing.

Alapati scored 2 tries on the wing for North Harbour against my team, Hawkes Bay. Good to see him in action again.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Ref Abuse
« on: January 11, 2023, 07:47:15 AM »
There have been a few highlighted case of abuse against refs recently, the latest being the grief Barnes and his wife got after the Saffa match, and what Rassie has been doing recently.

Whilst having a look at the RFU site, to see if there was any verdict on Faz and came across a document of the match official abuse cases in community rugby, higher level of rugby incidents are covered in the normal reports.

https://www.englandrugby.com/governance/discipline/disciplinary-decisions/cb-moa-cases-2022-2023

There are some very long bans on there, quite rightly.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Glaws vs Sarries
« on: January 07, 2023, 08:29:37 AM »
Karl Dickson strikes again.

Ignores his TMO request and ignores a Farrell shoulder to the head. Didn’t watch the match but read loads of comments, even some Sarries fans saying he shouldn’t have been on the pitch to score the drop goal that won them the game.
Sounds like Dickson didn’t know the laws. Making a comment about too many phases before which was wrong as match hadn’t restarted. The twitter interaction between Jim Hamilton and Nigel Owen’s is amusing.

What’s the chance Farrell gets cited this close to the 6nations, I’ll be surprised if he does more than if he doesn’t.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Guy Thompson Retires
« on: April 28, 2022, 04:06:52 PM »
Guy has announced he is retiring, one player I was always disappointed we lost, and someone I feel was unjustly kicked out by Tigers after basically keeping them in the Prem.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Final 3 rounds
« on: April 24, 2022, 10:56:27 PM »
I was surprised to see how close to top 4 we were, still not sure we can get there but thought I’d take a look at the final 3 rounds, I’m sure there will be some disagreement but this is my take for fun.

Top 3 are gone, I know mathematically Sarries and Quinn can still be caught but unlikely.

So below that today we have

Saints - 63pts
———————
Exeter - 62
Glaws - 62
Irish - 58
Wasps - 57
———————
Sale - 56

The others are too far away to affect the Europe places as Bristol are 14 behind sale.

Round 24
Saints vs Quin’s - good chance saints won’t get anything.
Sale vs Falcons - 4pts for sale?
Glaws vs Bath - this should be a win for Glaws but Bath have been close on a few games recently
Tigers vs Bristol - doesn’t affect the mid table
Worcester vs Sarries  - doesn’t affect the mid table
Irish vs Wasps - a must win for wasps

By the end of the weekend it could be

Glaws - 66
———————
Saints - 63
Exeter - 62
Wasps - 62
Sale - 61
———————
Irish - 58

Round 25
Bristol vs Exeter - last home game for Bristol, and with how Exeter have been playing I can see a Bristol win
Wasps vs Sale - another must win for wasps
Bath vs Irish- can’t see Bath winning but stranger things have happened
Quin’s vs Glaws - quins win
Falcons vs Tigers - doesn’t affect the mid table
Sarries vs Saints - can’t see anything other than Sarries win

By the end of the weekend it could be very congested with 5 of the 6 still in with a playoff place

Glaws - 66
———————
Wasps - 66
Saints - 63
Exeter - 62
Irish - 62
———————
Sale - 61

Final round
Exeter vs Quins - will depend on the team quins put out but can see an Exeter win
Glaws vs Sarries - as above but think Sarries
Tigers vs Wasps - can’t see wasps winning but will depend on tigers team
Saints vs Falcons - saints
Sale vs Bristol - sale
Worcester vs Bath - who cares

By the end of the weekend sticking to form

Saints - 68
———————
Glaws - 66
Wasps - 66
Exeter - 66
Sale - 65
———————
Irish - 62

A bit of fun but I think it shows how important the Irish vs Wasps game is for both teams.
Also, how easy it could be for the final table to be manipulated by teams fielding weaker sides if they have already got their home semi as both Wasps and Glaws could end up winning the last week which could get them in the top 4.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Toulouse away Tickets now on sale
« on: October 29, 2021, 10:32:33 PM »
Tickets are not on sale yet, the match has appeared with a coming soon tag. Hopefully on sale soon.

Anyone been before as we are planning to go and wondered what the best place to sit is, potentially close to other Wasps fans?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / TRP
« on: October 17, 2021, 08:55:13 AM »
Yet again it proves why I dropped my subscription and only read it through PressReader for free.

They have printed a story about Stooke and Broadstreet, which came from an interview with Bobby, reading it it looks like their interview.

The Nick Cain column completely misses the point on Exeter branding issue with a load of whataboutary and attacks on the exeterchiefs4change group. Whatever your thoughts on the issue he comes across badly, but then I have a very strong dislike of the man after his poor sarries  retoric over the salary cap issues.

Colin Boag uses the CMK Oghre yellow to point out refs do make mistakes.

Match report head to head was Willis and Simmonds with Tom coming out very well. It also show attendance as 9000.

Nothing Wasps in the blindside rumours, just Fissler reprinting a story I head months ago about Marler, and Andy Goode calling his ex-agent as useful as a chocolate teapot, from his podcast.

Shane Williams saying Thomas Young should have had more caps and having a dig at the 60 cap rule. He calls it a way of the regions getting cheap players.

Jeff Probyn talks about diversity, mainly around lack of Asian players, when they are the biggest minority in the UK. Pointing our almost every player is a posh boy, does mention briefly the Exeter branding issue, then does himself no favours with ‘as far as I know’ statements which are wrong, and has a pop at Wasps.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / TRP

Ali Crossdale makes the cover.

Horrible story on the cover about Ollie Monye getting subjected to racist abuse from a drunken fan at Plymouth Argyle, sounds like it was dealt with very well by all players and officials. In typical TRP reporting apparently Ugo is Ollies namesake, not a relative  ::)

Glowing write up on the match and the Moment in Time article being about the 1985-86 Wasps John Player cup finalists.

Lots of England training squad discussions. Bizarre comment from Guscott claiming Robson can be a bit moody. Not something I’ve seen or heard before.

Anyone else reading Ed Jacksons book which was released yesterday?

I pre-ordered and it dropped in my Kindle account yesterday so started reading it last night. Scarey how close he was to not making it in the 1st hours after the accident.
