Wasps Rugby Discussion / O/T - South Africa win vs Australia
« on: July 09, 2023, 09:32:56 AM »
Whilst this will sound rather petty - I was more than a little pleased that SA thrashed Jones' Australia...Lots of BS from the man about how good the Aussies would be - they seemed rather lost - not unlike England were over much of the last three years......

Wasps Rugby Discussion / England team vs Australia
« on: June 30, 2022, 08:39:56 AM »
https://www.englandrugby.com/news/article/england-team-named-for-first-australia-test?utm_source=CRM220630ESAusTourPreMatch1Main&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=CRM220630ESAusTourPreMatch1Main&utm_content=Summer%20Tour&spMailingID=20028783&spUserID=Njc0OTkwNzI0OTEzS0&spJobID=2017353219&spReportId=MjAxNzM1MzIxOQS2

No surprises in the starting 15 - I'd guess four starters away from a 6Ns team, a team that was lacklustre and failed to score. A lot depending upon Billy and Joe ball in hand and still no real pace selected. Looks like a back three (well Nowell and Steward) aimed at an aerial battle - and a lot on Farrell in terms of organisation.

If we're not solid at set piece and good at kicking for territory - it could be a long game....

15. Freddie Steward

14. Jack Nowell

13. Joe Marchant

12. Owen Farrell

11. Joe Cokanasiga

10. Marcus Smith

9. Danny Care

1. Ellis Genge

2. Jamie George

3. Will Stuart

4. Maro Itoje

5. Jonny Hill

6. Courtney Lawes (C)

7. Tom Curry

8. Billy Vunipola

Finishers

16. Luke Cowan-Dickie

17. Mako Vunipola

18. Joe Heyes

19. Ollie Chessum

20. Lewis Ludlam

21. Jack van Poortlviet

22. Guy Porter

23. Henry Arundell

Wasps Rugby Discussion / OT - Manu injured
« on: June 02, 2022, 12:04:12 PM »
I suppose to no one's surprise, Manu is off for surgery and misses summer tour.

Must make England selection more straight forwards.....

Just to say I enjoyed the game  - good quality play and, for me, the right result. I know few if any of us have much positive to say about Sarries as a club, but I was v pleased Quins won as Sarries appeared to be a most unpleasant team. Both in their interactions with the ref and the verbals aimed at Quins players.

I know banter has always been part of the game - but Sarries seemed to go out of their way and seemed when giving team "gee ups" to be manic.....And the ref on more than one occasion warned their Capt, who seemed to be leading the vocals at both ref and Quins. The commentary team seemed to think this wasn't the first time she'd been in the face of the ref...

I was increasingly pleased with the results as the Sarries team seemed to go out of their way to somehow "prove" they were "The Team" and that only they ought to win. Seems like a club thing...if I was being uncharitable.......

Wasps Rugby Discussion / OT - Farrell tackle controversy vs Doncaster
« on: April 22, 2021, 12:26:25 PM »
From The Ruck
Quote
Owen Farrell has been labelled ‘extremely lucky’ after he avoided being cited for a dangerous hit during Saracens 50-15 win against Doncaster Knights.

In a clip shared by Andy Goode with the caption ‘must be different tackle laws in the Championship’, the England captain clearly makes dangerous contact with his opponents head.

It's not HD video, but any Prem game, that looks a lot like a red......

Wasps Rugby Discussion / OT - England coaching set up
« on: November 27, 2019, 12:01:50 PM »
Noticed in piece in the Grauniad that Jones has lost:

Scott Wisemantel - attack coach (off to the Aussies its thought) credited with England looking sharper over the last 18 months
Neal Hatley - scrum coach (back at Bath)
Steve Borthwick  - forwards coach (as soon as replacement found though rumoured to be in for the 6Ns)

Plus its estimated another 25 coaches/backroom staff have left during his tenure.

Rather worrisome from a forward looking perspective. I guess we'll see!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / England U20 6Ns vs Wales
« on: September 13, 2019, 03:05:01 PM »
I keep an eye on my more local teams and Glaws are hosting England - Wales U20 6Ns next March 6th - a Friday

I saw the same fixture at Glaw a few seasons ago and it was a great occasion

If anyone else is thinking of going - PM me and perhaps we might meet up?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Hip replacement - advice request
« on: September 10, 2019, 01:11:25 PM »
Just been to the consultant and have been told I need a hip replacement (and probably another within 5 years on the other side)

I was told the rugby, cricket and squash probably accelerated the wear and tear involved, but the base problems resulted from slight hip issues from when a kid it seems.

Seems a little "unfair" at a mere 56 years old...but I wondered if any of you had a replacement and perhaps could given me a heads up on what to expect etc?

Thanks

Mike

Wasps Rugby Discussion / France post RWC - the Wasps connection
« on: September 03, 2019, 10:51:21 AM »
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/sep/02/shaun-edwards-france-world-cup-wigan

I see Shaun and Raphaël Ibañez will be in charge of France post RWC - that ought to be a concern for other teams...I'd bet on those two managing the resources France have as well as anyone - which for international rugby is a good thing - least in my opinion!

Given the Wasps connection....I'll admit to a potential soft spot for France from next 6Ns... :D

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Mitre 10 Season starting this week
« on: August 05, 2019, 01:09:50 PM »
I enjoyed watching last season's games and note they are starting again this week

They are on Sky, but I guess those minded to will access games in other ways!
