Wasps Rugby Discussion / World Rugby qualification rules
« on: January 23, 2021, 06:10:04 PM »
There's been a bit of chat in media/forums about which players might choose which country to play for or hope which country chooses them.

If the same rules were to be applied to people (actors, politicans, monarchy, us) who don't play pro rugby.. but somehow managed to find themselves within in the selection pool.. under the spotlight, I wonder who might be picked to represent a country they barely know.

As far as I'm aware, the furthest qualification goes back to the country of birth of a grandparent.
5 yrs residency?

To start the ball rolling.

Would Prince William be available for selection to represent Greece?

On a personal level, I'd be able to represent Wales based on my granddad's country of birth.

Something for the off-season.

Hopefully as general sports fans with a passion for rugby, we watch other sports and think "He'd be a good prop" or "the wheels on him.. he'd make a good winger"

Here's the team (form other sports)

Wasps Rugby Discussion / New Skills
« on: August 05, 2020, 12:51:23 PM »
Its a bit off topic.. so apologies .

I caught my first mole this morning. I think it probably happened 2 nights ago but I didn't dare disturb the traps I set in case what I thought happened had actually occured.

Has anyone else acquired any new non rugby related skills in the last 4 months or so?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / 2027 WC Hosts
« on: July 29, 2020, 09:55:21 AM »
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2020/07/28/vladimir-putin-backs-surprise-russia-bid-host-2027-rugby-world/

They hosted a good football WC. If its deemed they don't have enough suitable stadia they seem happy to build some new ones. A good location for the major TV audience.. and more importantly they know how to influence an international sporting committee (brown envelopes)  to make that committee put aside non-rugby related issues.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Kolpak status - how it effects the PRL
« on: February 12, 2020, 09:27:12 AM »
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-7992889/Brexit-puts-Premiership-Rugby-Kolpak-players-risk-clubs-look-increase-overseas-player-quota.html

I've never really understood what Kolpak status is/was. I'm guessing this is an EU employment law that applies to all employment and that its not just a rugby (RFU/PRL) rule?

What was the reasoning behind it? Why do SA workers qualify but not ozzies or NZ?

Did anyone else notice a huge chunk of the pitch being torn up?

Is the plastic under-weave finally giving way.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / EPL Coaches worth their weight in gold?
« on: December 07, 2019, 11:03:41 AM »
Interesting article in the Guardian

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2019/dec/05/premiership-rugby-giants-relegation-salary-cap-saracens-leicester-wasps-bath

It points out that some of the clubs at the top of the league have spent recent time in the championship or have recently changed coaching setups..  the bottom 3 (excluding Sarries), Wasps, Bath, Leic supplied 12 players for Eng WC (plus more players for other countries) and yet find themselves at the bottom.. implying that good coaching maybe more valuable than the sprinkling of marquee star dust.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Tibo Flament

Out of all the signings this season (and possibly last) he is the one that has stood out.

He was signed from Loughborough Students (not even their 1st team I think) and despite being in our academy, he doesn't look out of place in our matchday squads.

Its would be just a guesstimate but I wouldn't be surprised if he is one of the players with the highest minutes played this season (given that he played in the 7's and premiership cup)... which has got me thinking..

He's in the academy and I believe someone on this forum said wages were restricted £30 - £40k whilst rubbing shoulders with teammates possibly on 5 - 10 times that.

Can he be promoted mid season? I think he's being used to cover for Garrat retiring, Gaskell being injured and Matthews.. who's either injured all fallen out of favour.

I presume whilst he's playing in the premiership games he's not adding to the salary cap either?

Are academy players restricted to how much senior premiership game time they can play ?

Surely, even at this early stage, Dai will have already offered a senior contract for next season?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Plastic
« on: November 18, 2019, 08:50:46 PM »
I'm sure I've watched a game over the week-end where the commentators have said that the little black rubber pellets dispersed onto plastic pitches will be banned and that clubs will now have to use sand.. that doesn't effect hybrids though that are 90% grass  but it will affect a few clubs.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Bon Matin Tout Le Monde!
« on: November 16, 2019, 07:25:07 AM »
Bon Matin Tout Le Monde! (As Del Boy would say).

I hope the weather is better in Bordeaux for the travelling fans than it is here in Warwickshire.

I hope the team forget the stresses of the league and just enjoy the experience (as it will be new for most).

We're up against an in form side but I hope things click for us this game

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Glaws v Sarries
« on: November 09, 2019, 03:22:14 PM »
I've watched the the build up and as expected the former players, who are now pundits, must have splinters from sitting on the fence.

Laura Lambert, the journalist who spent months reseaching Companies House and HM Land Registry, implied that she was tipped off and that she wouldn't stop there.. which makes me think she has other clubs in her sights. She wouldn't have appeared for an interview if she didn't think she had more to offer.

If a club has come out and denounced Sarries, that makes me think they are confident they've stuck to the rules. At the moment thats Exeter, Quins (players) and Sale.

I would have liked Dai to say something before last nights game rather that bat questions away with bland answers.. which worries me.

It appears the Daly signing. mid-contract, may have kicked things off though

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Morning All
« on: September 28, 2019, 07:38:22 AM »
Good morning to all,

I'm looking forward to watching my 1st game of the season this afternoon, albeit from the sofa.

I'm about 30 miles from Franklin Gardens and at the moment its blue skies with a mild fresh breeze.

Best of luck to the team and all those travelling.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Premiership 7's
« on: July 16, 2019, 09:46:23 AM »
For those who will be attending

https://www.premiershiprugby.com/fixtures/premiership-rugby-7s-results/

PRL have done a cracking job by having the year of "2018" when categorising the groups though. I'm presuming this is for the forthcoming event though as the days matches the dates.

I wonder if BT will be televising it?
