Wasps Rugby Discussion / Weekend Fixtures - spoilers

Anyone else just fancy a chat instead of watching the bore fest  being served up by the champions and league hopefuls at the launch of this season.

Probably worth paying some interest to again this season.
We’ve had ties with them for a while with TV3 playing a bit there last year as well as Tom Bacon and Fyn Brown and Ollie Hartley and Nearchou playing there regularly.

This season Nearchou is back there as well as Hardwick who play today against Sarries, there is also a ‘Craven’ at 9 so potentially our academy 9 Harry. Cam Dodson will also be on loan there eventually.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Rumours?
« on: July 13, 2022, 02:22:48 PM »
Apologies, a slow day for me.
We had signed Carr and Fifita by the end of June last year. Blackett spoke on a podcast about how he locked in those deals whilst on holiday.

Do we think he has done any business this year?
Away from any Wade gossip, we are surely still a couple of backs light or players like Hartley, Simonds and some academy guys might be in for some more rugby than we’re used to compared to previous seasons.

Will have to look in more detail at the preseason training pictures to see if there’s any unexpected faces.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / England U20s Summer Squad

Congratulations to Archie McArthur, Rekeiti Ma’asi-White and Greg Fisilau for their selection.

Surprised not seeing Kofi Cripps in there but seem to remember him being injured and needing surgery near the end of the season. Very surprised not seeing Alfie Bell in there after how much he featured in the 6 nations so potentially injured too.

Hadn’t heard us linked to Ngatai but he’ll be a great signing for Leinster.

Doesn’t sound great moving forward that we haven’t got anyone specific lined up yet, although the big ball carrier somewhere in the backs Lee mentions is much needed in my opinion.

This article makes me feel like we’ll have both Mills and MLB around next year as well as Burger at 12 with Hartley and Simonds coming through. Burger will also play 13 if needed as will Spink and Odogwu.
Wonder if we’ll be looking at another lower profile SH import like Burger to break the line without breaking the bank.

Is it just me or has this been a very long half?
Sure it’s been about twenty mins of reset scrums so far

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Social Media
« on: January 07, 2022, 02:11:15 AM »
At long last there seems to be an increased presence and range of material on our social media platforms, which is great to see.

Bobby mentioned this a while ago in comparison to Leicester’s greater social media content. I also know the likes of Quins and Bristol are very good and we have fallen a long way behind, probably since Ben Lloyd was around in the press room.
I know we must have made some cuts in this area over the last season or so but does anyone know if we had made some changes in this area now.

Much improved and hope there is a lot more to come.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / No England thread?
« on: November 21, 2021, 01:34:01 AM »
I was a bit late to watching this due to the time difference where I am.

Just watched it back but no thread here at all? Perhaps indicative of my feelings on the game that I just wasn’t that bothered.

I was watching it on premier sports Asia with Martin Gillingham and Thinus Delport on commentary - at the end discussing the ‘tactical masterclass’ of Eddie Jones and how that is exactly the type of test match rugby we want to watch….

Not sure about that.
Thought Eddie was almost found out tactically with the 6-2 bench split almost backfiring yet again again when Tuilagi inevitably got crocked.
His inexperienced hooker coming in ahead of many other candidates and then blowing three or four line outs almost costing the game.
To his credit Jones gloriously hauled Youngs off but then having an exciting 9/10 axis and then them not actually playing any rugby until we were behind with five mins to go.
The ball went wide noticeably quicker without Farrell around, both Slade and Smith playing with more freedom and responsibility.

Main talking point for me was the referee. Thought Ewels was very lucky to stay on and whilst the commentary team I was listening to didn’t really delve into it, to me that wasn’t referreed as we have seen recently in Europe. This could have swayed the match. Perhaps Ewells couldn’t do anything but like Kolisi said at the time the players must still be protected. I wonder if Etzebeth would have been knocked out with that whether the decision would have been any different and then it would have been turned to being a decision on outcome.
Definitely some interesting calls at the breakdown for both sides.

A horrible example again of two coaches who firmly believe it is better to play test rugby without the ball and frustratingly with the referee at the breakdown this did prove to be the case. I’m hoping the Wales and France matches are a little more open as I move on to them.
I imagine SA will feel a little aggrieved but what a year of rugby they have had.
Eddie will probably have an even bigger chip on his shoulder now but at least some of the old guard have been moved on and the likes of Smith and Dombrandt are being picked on form and a gem like Steward has been unearthed.

Looking forward to Europe and the Premiership being back.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / 2nd Row
« on: October 18, 2020, 02:44:40 PM »
Have just seen on Myles Edwards’ Instagram someone wishing him well with his ‘next venture🏉’ as he departs from Heathrow...

Shame if he’s off already as thought he had some potential as a big carrier in the second row for us.
Know Blackett has said he expects Rowlands to be here next season but that could change very quickly I imagine.
Cardall and Theo are coming through well in the 4 and 5 shirts but only leaves us with 5 locks and some vey young or completely untried academy options - maybe worth retaining Douglas after all

Don’t think I’ve seen it on here yet but good old Ruck.co.uk have Brad as returning to NZ after the final.

Possibly not an accurate rumour as he re-signed his summer, but you never know. It was also Ruck who had us linked to Kolisi.

Happy watching everyone!
Would appreciate regular updates as down here in the Falklands BFBS are showing the Sarries Bath game - will have the radio but would appreciate some further insight.
Cheers

Ruck.co.uk has us after him as our marquee signing for next season.
Montpellier also interested.

Not sure how this will work with Shields, Young and the Willis Bros already signed up and Vailanu only one season in
