Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Ex Wasps signing for new clubs

Is that the one with "Steve" - if so that's not Paolo - just has the same hairstyle

(I assume it's not the other Food Hub advert from the end of last year that got banned for objectifying women)

He's forward's coach as Chinnor. So possibly looking forward to full-time coaching them in next season's Championship (assuming they stay top of National 1)

They'll proably be able to pay it off from their bit of the Worcester/Wasps/Irish P shares

Unless there is strong political pressure (from the PM), HMRC simply ignore any requests and pleas. You owe it. It is due. Pay or we will see you in Court. Soon. They do not care for the societal consequences.
As far AIUI this isn't an HMRC issue, its a loan from DCMS. So as long as the clubs are paying their taxes it should be none of HMRCs business.
However the HMRC are acting as "collection agents" for the DCMS. If I remember correctly it was them deciding that we were likely to default on tax (which they had previously came to an arrangement about) and the DCMS loan that brought about our demise.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Hope All English Refs Were Watching
« on: March 31, 2024, 09:54:51 AM »
Watched the England v Wales Women's International and at a ruck the Ref  told the English No. 9 to "use it" as she continued to drag the ball with her foot, calling new players into the crocodile, was told to use it again and did not move to pick it up, so ref immediately penalised England.

Isn't it strange that loses because of Covid weren't a factor in 3 clubs going under, but now are a factor in the remaining teams underperforming (financially)?

We now go to watch Ealing, and the black clouds of  crumb that constantly rise from the pitch really make you wonder how healthy they can be for the players.

And Elliot Millar-Mills has been capped by Scotland since Wasps folded!

..and been sold a new car by my son-in-law ;D

Like others, since the Club's demise, haven't watched a Premiership match (with exception of some of the Premiership Cup games against Championship clubs  - firmly supporting the latter).

I have been to watch Championship matches and Women's Premier Matches, and one National League match.

Have also watched URC and Pro 14 matches on the box.

Chinnor are currently at the top of their division, just below the Championship. They are coached by 2 ex-Waspies (Craig Hampson and Tom Cruse) together with Nick Easter.

If they get promoted next season it could be interesting because Craig Hampson is also scrum half at Ealing who currently head the Championship, with nowhere to go (well perhaps the URC ;D)

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Wasps update February 2024
« on: March 13, 2024, 11:12:53 AM »
I started supporting Wasps back in 1957, and continued to support them until the demise.

The team, at the time of the split to form the professional team, was completely different to the team that played when I started watching, as was the team at the time of the demise. However during that time there was evolution, new players came-in, other players left, but there was continuity.

Similarly even though there were four changes of location the team was the constant.

If the reformed Wasps manage to get started what is the actual continuity with the Wasps I supported?

I will probably equate them with MG cars. Although they share a name and badge, he current, Chinese, MG cars are no more related to the original MGs than the new Wasps will be to the Wasps teams I supported.

Here's the Google translation of that article:

Benetton Rugby announces that it has mutually terminated the contract that bound the player Matteo Minozzi to the green and white club until 30 June 2025. The full-back, who arrived in Treviso in November 2022, has made 6 appearances for the Lions.

Matteo Minozzi said: "My adventure at Benetton Rugby comes to an end, a club that I would like to thank for extending a hand to me in my time of need as I was coming from some injuries and the failure of Wasps. Sadly, this year and a half has not gone the way we both sides wanted it to go. I've never been able to get back in shape or be the player I was and that led me to only make six appearances in this shirt. So, as the months went by, I realized that it was time to start planning my future after rugby. We discussed this with the company and by mutual agreement we decided to terminate our relationship. I will open a multi-sports center that has padel as its focus: another great passion of mine. In thanking all those who have been close to me over the years, I wish the club all the best and look forward to seeing you in my new centre that I will inaugurate in the spring."

"When a player says he prefers to stop playing and start thinking about a future away from rugby, it's something that clearly always strikes you. At the same time, it must make you reflect on how important it is to create your own post-career despite continuing to play. In addition to being a great player, although in the last period he has not been able to reach the standards required by us and by himself, Matteo has managed to think about the future and this must be a lesson for everyone and therefore he deserves our congratulations. On behalf of the whole club, we wish Minozzi the best of luck and that this activity can guarantee him a wonderful future," said Antonio Pavanello, general manager of the Lions.

I know the eye injury really affected him, and it also caused a great deal of concern to the medical staff at Wasps. Such a pity he never recovered to near the brilliance he showed during the six nations when he was one of the players of the tournament. Hope his new venture goes well.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Possible news?

Nick Eastwood was at the meeting that Wasps held for supporters at Marlow when the  move was first announced, so was involved before the move happened, and yes he is the person most mentioned. Another name who has been mentioned to me as culpable is David (?) Armstrong, but I don't know what his role in Wasps was.

I have  managed to talk to several of the "lesser" players since the demise, and one of the things that has been consistant is that none of them seem to blame Derek.
There is one person who everyone seems to blame, and it is someone rarely mentioned on sites like this, but he, basically, was one of the main people involved iin the move and was high up in Wasps holdings.

I should clarify - I was talking about Premiership.

I do watch the URC (well those matches that can be seen FTA on the |Welsh or Scottish channels).

Surprised he never played for that North London side whose name I can't utter.

It woulds have taken them above the Salsry Cap and they would never do anything like that!
