Wasps Rugby Discussion / The Phantom Smiter - And changes to the forum
« on: February 01, 2022, 04:46:46 PM »
There have been all sorts of problems of late with people being repeatedly smited (smitten?) for no apparent reason. And to be honest that doesn't fit the ethos of the Glee Club we are known to be.

So I have removed the smite option, and instead have added a big shiny button. I have no changed anyone's totals, but if you would like me to reset yours, or even just remove the negative points just drop me a Private message in confidence.

Let me know what you think.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / ANNUAL APPEAL - Please support the forum in 2022
« on: January 05, 2022, 01:38:00 PM »
Firstly, Happy New Year to you all, and thank you for continuing to make this such a pleasant place to be.  I know it hasn't been easy to keep our "glee club" reputation up at times recently (a name I am quite fond of), but in the main I think we've done a pretty fine job.

It's now 2022 and so I am asking if you could help support the forum and contribute to the ongoing running costs.

It is not compulsory, and there is no minimum amount.  Every penny will help, and be massively appreciated.

For full transparency the link will take you to a Paypal donation page which links to my own personal paypal account, which was set up when I ran an online Martial Arts store, so don't be surprised by the name.

Thank you massively in advance!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / So what actually is the problem?
« on: December 05, 2021, 04:21:12 PM »
It's pretty clear that since the final, where we lost out after one wayward throw (whether you blame the thrower or the person who called it is irrelevant really) that we have nose dived.

We were winning constantly, as a squad we had rock-solid self-belief, and there wasn't a team in the GP who wanted to face us.

That feels like a long time ago now.

A lot of the squad is the same, and we've even added some quality in some places.  The second row looks as good as it ever has, and our choice at hooker is almost embarrassing. we have the best 9 in the game, and a 10 who has shown he could be just as good if he can find the consistency.

So what is the problem?  Why are we unable to win anymore?

I don't buy that this is simply down to injuries. It isn't that we are fighting hard, pushing teams, and just losing out despite moments of brilliance, we simply look defeated from the beginning.

As a team we are less than the sum of our parts.

Jacob has come in for a lot of stick recently (some from me) and it probably isn't entirely fair.  The big frustration there is twofold.  Firstly that he can be SO good that it is even more crushing when he isn't.  And secondly because we really need someone to pull the strings and drag this team out of the slump it is in, and he is perfectly placed to do that at 10. Maybe it is asking too much of him, but again that is simply down to the fact people see he COULD be that person, yet somehow isn't managing to be.  Much like the whole team to be fair.

So what is it?

Do you think it is nothing more than injuries, and things will magically improve when Joe, Jack, and Dobby are back?

Do you think it is a psychological issue? That we aren't winning because we aren't winning?  That we are caught in the vicious cycle of losing and that until someone breaks that cycle this is where we will stay?

Do you think it is coaching?  Perhaps the different coaches aren't pulling the same direction?  Or perhaps Lee isn't finding the top job as easy as he initially thought?

Personally, I am incredibly frustrated by the current situation.  When we were fighting to avoid relegation at Adam's Park during our darkest times it was pretty clear we didn't deserve to be much more successful.  The quality in our squad was a lot more inconsistent than it is now. But now, we have the quality to win, and yet we don't.

Something has to change, but I worry that the removal of relegation, and Bath being so utterly terrible means there is no impetus for us to improve.

What do you think?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / The Training Centre
« on: July 01, 2021, 04:22:01 PM »
This morning I had the privilege of being shown around the training centre.

It's a fair way off being finished,  but I can honestly say I was gobsmacked by the size, the scope, and the ambition of the place.

Firstly it's huge. I've seen a few Premiership training grounds, and this is going to be the biggest and best by some margin.

Secondly no expense has been spared. From the immense gym to the professional kitchens, from the cryo-suites to the sauna, from the academy house to the already beautiful looking pitches.

This is truly game changing, a real step up in terms of professionalism, and a genuine demonstration of how committed Derek and the rest of the board are to the long term future of the club.

The future is looking bright!

Figured if I wanted to beat Chris to it I needed to be up late rather than early!

Hoping for a win today, but won't be celebrating too much as I was gifted a ticket from a friend who is part of London Irish.

Either way as long as we don't give it away I'll be happy.

Can you imagine an England with Smith and Robson, and a head coach that allowed them to play their own game?

Now that would be worth watching.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Did I miss something?

The bond price jumped up several pounds today, which usually means something positive has happened but I haven't seen anything.

Did I miss something?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Latest rumour
« on: December 30, 2020, 02:12:29 PM »
There's a story doing the rounds on Reddit of Lee and a couple of other Wasps people being seen having coffee with Ollie Devoto not so long ago.

With the potential shortfall at 10/12 next season I'd not be too upset by this...

Wasps Rugby Discussion / What has changed?
« on: December 05, 2020, 06:57:26 PM »
This is the same squad that started post lockdown and couldn't lose whoever they put out.

The played with confidence and flair and were one dodgy throw away from winning the title.

Now they couldn't win at pass the parcel if Lee was on the music.

So what has changed? Is it the hangover from the final? Is it the missing players? Or something else.

This is as bad as the half season before Dai left.

Firstly apologies for the spam that has recently appeared on the board.  We have obviously been found by a bunch of pharma spammers.

If you see some please report it.  Obviously it gets removed as soon as we see it, but the sooner we see it the sooner it will go!

To prevent it in future we obviously need to make it harder for those accounts to be created, so if you have any ideas for questions that would be simple for an actual fan to answer, but hard for someone who isn't please let me know!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Deflated
« on: October 26, 2020, 11:01:44 AM »
I know I should be thrilled that we managed to reach the final.

I realise our turnaround under Lee has been utterly breathtaking.

I'm fully aware that Covid had a massive impact on our team.

I get that no-one really expected us to beat Exeter and we pushed them to the line.

I can see that one dodgy reffing decision could have made us Champions.

I know that our team is really young and only going to get better.

They are all huge positives, and I should be really pleased and excited.

But I'm not.

I'm still gutted.  Completely deflated.  I watched that game with no expectations, but the longer it went on the more I began to believe we could genuinely do it.  It could have gone either way and we could have easily lifted that trophy.  So when one dodgy decision and a miss throw snatched it away it felt more unfair than ever.

Maybe it is because that season went on for such a long time, maybe it's just because life is so much tougher for everyone right now, maybe it is just that I finally believed we could for the first time in over a decade.  But I am so much more disappointed than I was in 2017.

Anyone else feeling the same?
