Wasps Rugby Discussion / 2nd Place
« on: October 01, 2020, 07:40:59 AM »
I just feel it's worth pointing out that we would still be in 2nd place even if the cheats hadnt been docked any points.

Based on their wins and BPs they'd be on 65, and we're on 66.

I was lucky enough to be at The Ricoh yesterday, and I managed a quick look at the pitch.

The groundstaff are certainly earning their money, it is looking amazing.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Not good morning all!
« on: March 15, 2020, 08:18:09 AM »
Obviously there is no game, and to be completely honest I don't think there will be one for some time. So this afternoon I will be settling down with my laptop to re-watch the Sarries game of a few weeks ago.

I think we might just win 😁

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Last three games
« on: March 09, 2020, 11:20:08 AM »
In the last three games we have scored an incredible 18 tries.

To put that in context, it is as many tries as Worcester have scored all season.

Long may it continue!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / OT Coronavirus
« on: March 05, 2020, 09:29:18 AM »
So 25 minutes in to the Wasps/Irish game I got a message from my wife telling me to come home.

She'd been contacted by Public Health England to let her know she had been in contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19 and that she had to self isolate.

Obviously the fact that I was sat in a sports stadium at that point was a little worrying.  But thankfully it wasn't even close to full (how often do you hear that?)

After having spoken to PHE they aren't worried at all about me being able to pass it on, which means I missed out on most of the match for little reason, but now she's in isolation and I'm trying to run a business, look after 3 kids, and follow her around bleaching everything she touches just in case.

Now it turns out they're even cancelling 6N matches so I can't even watch rugby on TV!

Not liking this virus very much...

P.S. Heathen, that's why I didn't message you to meet up at the game...

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Do you, or did you play?
« on: March 02, 2020, 04:21:54 PM »
I feel like we have a pretty high proportion of current or ex players here.  I seem to remember we even put together a Once a Wasps 1st XV a while ago.  But I thought it might be nice to do a poll to see where we played.

I don't really care what level you played at, but probably should limit it to after leaving school.

So did you play?  I did and was a forward.  I gradually made my way forward in the scrum as I got older, mainly because 30 years ago I was TALL, now I am decidedly average (how did kids get so tall these days?)

After the somewhat surprising motm decision for the Irish game I thought it might be interesting to see what we all thought.

If I have missed someone just shout and I'll add them.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / A surprising stat, and a poll
« on: February 24, 2020, 03:00:25 PM »
I read a very interesting statistic that surprised me. That globally the average age of a Rugby fan is 36.

I find it hard to believe that that number is the same in the UK, so I was wondering how old the members here are.

Hence the poll.

Thanks!

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Coaching
« on: February 22, 2020, 09:43:40 AM »
With Dai now gone I suspect we'll finally find out the answer to the question that has been on everyone's mind.

Was the slump down to Dai or his team?

I don't want to take anything away from what Dai did for the club, but I strongly suspect that last night will not turn out to be a one off. I think we will see the team playing with more freedom, I think the defence will be more aggressive knowing that the attack is waiting in the wings.  I think we'll see fewer preplanned trainingmoves and more heads up rugby lead by Umaga and Sopps.

I also, and I know this won't be popular in some quarters, think that we'll see Costello come into his own as a coach.  I am led to believe that the squad rate him very highly as a coach and that he has been taking the flak for other people's decisions.

Roll on Irish!
