New Law interpretations being introduced

Hopefully the number of 'flying torpedos' at ruck thingies that are becoming more and more prevalent will soon become a thing of the past?

Probably also aimed at the Farrell tackles that created such a brouhaha as well?

I look forward to the game being more entertaining and safer for a few months before the refs begin to forget to sanction such acts and we return to the same old illegal and dangerous ruck entries!

I can't see this changing anything at the rucks as it's all about high tackles and joining a ruck isn't a tackle.

It should add some clarity on the "farrell" tackle style with the late low arm wrap (for want of a better description)
Based on that link, it would be deemed as a shoulder charge

I think this will help clarify what is deemed a high tackle & the different levels of sanction.

However, the focus seems to be on the tackle and there are already regulations to deal with high tackles so not sure they really needed this.

As others have mentioned, the breakdown is a much more dangerous place and the current rules are not being adhered to.

As I've written that, I am wondering whether breakdowns ARE actually more dangerous? I seem to remember some injury stats that said it was, but can't remember where I saw it.

Tackles caused the most concussions (it may have been injuries), when the data was collected a year or two ago.

Theres another 'new' offence that needs to be looked at soon. Probably based on the judo training that became 'de jour'  a few years ago, and (allegedly) led to Sam Jones retirement could be seen at the weekend semis.

A ruck/maul thingy is occurring and someone comes in and lists one leg and then rotates the body on the perpendicular axis whilst walking around the side of the thingy to almost come in from the rear and then dump the body downwards on top of the thingy.

Not in the same level of danger, but there are also a few lifted legs, which having achieved the destabilisation of the defender, then gets dropped before being considered "material" by the officials.

Also saw a very brave Chief who from the TV pictures had one hand between Courtney Lawes's  rear end during a thingy and appeared to be putting some pressure upwards to lift him?  Probably wasn't doing what it looked like because they know they are on TV, but was a common occurrence a load of years back......
