Sweeney on future of rugby
« on: April 03, 2020, 03:31:32 PM »
World Rugby, having failed to get its ideas through last year, is poised to try again, this time using the virus as a reason for turning rugby on its head.  Have a look at Sweeney from RFU on BBC Website.  Financial support yes but i for one cannot see that the virus alone would or should necessarily cause a major upheaval although there be some who try to use it as the reason.

What do others think?

They just keep trying to find a way to dig Southern Hemisphere rugby out of its financial hole at our expense.

When I read it I was reminded of the old political slogan: Never let a good crises go to waste.

Perhaps it was the way the BBC reported it it but it definitely came across as self-serving

Why are John Thaw and Dennis Waterman involved in this?

Rumour is that Rugby Australia will have to put itself into administration in the next couple of week. They're in a massive financial hole -- and it's nothing to do with Coronavirus, as the accounts for the last year show! Of course, they awarded themselves bonuses and wonderful appraisals, clearly taking a leaf out of the SRFU's book on that one

Of greater note is the prospect that Raeline Castle, the CEO of Rugby Australia, is facing the boot and if she is sacked Dave Rennie won't be joining the Wallabies as Head Coach. With Danny Wilson already appointed as his replacement at Glasgow, Rennie might be available for an attack minded club side that need a head coach...
