Given that nearly all of the injuries this season as well as those carried over from last have come about during matches rather than in training. While more intense training may raise the risk of in game injuries due to the repeated demands on the body, if training methods were a significant contributory factor then surely we would have seen more of these injuries sustained during training.
I do think it is an initial run of bad luck that has left the squad in a kind of vicious cycle where fewer players are available for selection, so greater demands are put on those left standing, with little or no opportunity for rotation, particularly in certain positions, which in itself increases the risk of injury, and so it goes on. Hopefully the upcoming cup matches will provide the opportunity to break that cycle and give a well earned rest to those that have played week in week out, while allowing those on the road to recovery to be reintroduced gently. By the time our next league game comes around we could be starting to see at least some of Cruse, West, Harris, Gopperth, Fekitoa and Barbeary back, and then a number of big names reportedly due back in the new year. Then all we need to do is keep them all fit!
