Teams Up for Prem Cup, Budgies.
« on: November 12, 2021, 11:57:19 AM »
Wasps Backs Transition Coach Scott Barrow has named his side to face Newcastle Falcons in Pool B of the Premiership Rugby Cup on Saturday.

The side is captained by Sam Wolstenholme at scrum-half. He forms the half-back partnership with Tommy Mathews.

First team squad members Cameron Anderson and Luke Mehson are joined in the back three by Senior Academy player Ollie Dawkins, who makes his Wasps debut. While Senior Academy duo Rekeiti Ma’asi White and Olly Hartley, who are also debutants, form the centre partnership.

New short-term signing Gordon Reid starts at loosehead-prop, with Biyi Alo propping down on the other side of the scrum. Between them Michael van Vuuren starts, after two appearances off the bench in the last two rounds of Gallagher Premiership rugby.

Behind them Tim Cardall and Sebastian de Chaves form the second row partnership. While Senior Academy players Mario Pichardie and James Tunney are in the back-row alongside James Tyas, who is on loan from London Scottish.

On the bench, Pieter Scholtz, Zac Nearchou and Dan Eckersley, who is in line for his Wasps debut, provide the front row replacements. Senior Academy trio Alfie Bell, Kofi Cripps and Ollie Monye are also poised to make their Wasps debuts from amongst the replacements. Russell Bennett, who is on loan from Ampthill and George Simpson, who is on loan from Hartpury are the other backs replacements.

I suspect I know the answer, but is this being recorded, streamed or televised?

Very sensible selection IMHO. A great opportunity for the younger players to make their mark.

Newcastle have gone strong but pleased with the Wasps selection.

I assume the game will not be live streamed but I’d love to see a recording.

Some of the Wasps squad have an opportunity to stake a claim.

Three players have 73 caps between them, the other 20 have 14 between them.

Good luck to all them, especially the 20. Its a great opportunity.

Could be a long afternoon but hopefully both sides will get into the spirit of things and have some fun out there.

This could genuinely be the long term future for in the centres so keen to see how they get on.

Wonder if Curran is not quite fit and thought we might see Jude Williams on the wing but maybe has some uni commitments. Greg Fisilau and Aaron Florenstein must have been close to selection too but eager to hear how Pichardie (who was spoken highly of last season) Cripps and Tunney get on in the back row.

Plenty of experience in the starting front 5, a lot of young talent in the backs. Looking forward to seeing how the young guys go.

Really excited by the young centre pairing. Good balance of power and athleticism. I hope they're the future and they're what we're looking for.

Absolutely the correct selection. The only player I was expecting was Curran - not sure if he’s injured.

😬 have just seen what happened to Bath last night with their very inexperienced and injury hit   side against a pretty strong Glaws selection.
