Malakai Fekitoa injury update, reaction to Sale Sharks defeat, Dan Robson on ice
Two second-half tries from Denny Solomona denied Dai Young's side a second consecutive Premiership Rugby Cup victory

Ben Jaycock & Bobby Bridge report:

Not surprised to hear about Lima, Malakai and Dobby being held back.

Yes, makes sense. DY using this Cup exactly as it should be used - basically pre season friendlies. Positives coming out of it are Willis, Carr and Umaga. Taylor also getting game time and our wide options look great. Nice big win at home against Irish and off we go.

The format of the Premiership Cup always confuses me. We have Saints, Sarries and Sale in our group and yet next week we are playing Wuss?

Are there return fixtures later in the season (I can't see any ) or is the next stage the semis which I'm presuming is 3 group winners plus the best runner up (if so we need a 5 pointer next week-end to have any chance of progressing)

This competition and the one that preceded it, have always been a fudge.

3 groups of 4 played as a round robin, plus a "derby" game against a team from a different pool(we get Wuss) so that each team gets two home and two away games. No return games. Straight on then to semi finals. Seems like a fudge to give equal home and away games and fit into the weekends available.

Looking at the tables there's about 5 teams that will be in contention for the best runner up spot.. still.. at least we're in with a chance which is better than last season.
