Do we want an Exeter win?
« on: September 26, 2020, 03:33:08 PM »
Hey guys

Purely from from a Wasps perspective, do we want Exeter going all the way?

Or from an England perspective?
Or do you want to see Kolbe and Toulouse power up vs Racing 92?

Thoughts?

I do really like Toulouse and how they've developed a great young squad.  That said I wouldn't begrudge Exeter as they've fought hard to try and improve in Europe.  Looking forward to this game as a neutral, don't think it'll be a classic but should be a good contest... I hope.

First quarter has been all Toulouse. As an English club, I would be happy to see Exeter get to the finals (having said that I was supporting R92 earlier).

From a Wasps perspective, if Exeter win against Toulouse, they may not risk putting their full first team against us given the Prem SF & Euro finals would both be within 2 weeks of the Ricoh fixture.

Would definitely prefer an Exeter win. Not a huge fan of their playing style (though they have it in them to be pretty), but I do want an English team in the final.

Exeter pretty much ground Toulouse down and into submission in the second half.

Quite the turnaround. Well deserved win.

So Exeter’s next fixtures are:
Irish - 30/09
Wasps - 04/10
Premiership SF: 10-12/10
Championship F: 17/10
Premiership F: 24/10

Given they are guaranteed a home SF, will they risk putting a full strength team at the Ricoh with 2 (possibly 3) crucial fixtures so soon after?

+2 from this household. Good to see the cheating buggers end up empty handed at the end of the season when they finally got found out.
Now get behind Chiefs for the final.

Looking at that sequence of games, and bearing in mind the old Shaun Edwards rest/rust argument, I'd imagine Exeter will give as many of today's squad as possible the Irish game off, before giving most of their first team a good run out against us in readiness for 3 all or nothing games in the weeks to follow.  Any even slight injury concerns I'm sure wont be risked, and they may not be quite at their best, but I expect a strong Chiefs side at the Ricoh.

Agree with this, they won't want to lose to anyone so that they maintain momentum in the run up to that final sequence, and especially not against a team they may well face in the prem semi. We can't expect any favours and will just have to give it everything.

Just remind the team about that famous Gopperth last kick victory, against Exeter, a few years ago.
