Good morning Neils, WW, Heaths, Mike, Ross and all Waspies from a beautiful Guildford. The Ukrainian flag is fluttering on the castle which reminds me that democracy will prevail, and that Ukraine, it’s wonderful leader and people will lead us all to a future where freedom, respect and goodness will flourish. They are uniting us to levels that no dictator and his cabal can ever defeat and we must give our all to support them.
But to do today’s games.
I have two to mention.
England v France: Although I am wearing my England shirt, my apathy is being felt today, and I expect I am not the only one. Sometimes you gain more through defeat than victory. Today could be one of those days. Eddie Jones high player and coaching turnover, lack of direction/ability to provide a winning style, holier than though attitude, inability to develop a core of players and realise talent and lack of true understanding of how important the six nations is, is having its effects. Lancaster may of got the 2015 World Cup wrong, but where he got it right was connecting the team to the fans and taking us with him. The team needs us as much as we need them, Eddie Jones simply does not understand that. His apathy and inability is providing our downfall at present. The passion for our team is still there in abundance, just see the players and fans uniting at HQ last weekend for evidence of that. However as we capitulated once more, losing by 17 points and 4 tries to 0, it was how Eddie Jone set us up that let us down (again). Tonight against a wonderful French team who I admit I would love to see take the slam, the greater prize for me would be seeing Eddie Jones go and someone who really understands the above be brought in.
Wasps v Sale. We are out of the cup, but today’s game still carries significance. We are struggling in the league, we have lost many games and also having no end of trouble putting in a cogent 80 minute performance with a style to build upon. All teams go through this. But sometimes it takes one event to turn the tables. The Parker pen win in 2003. Varndells hold up tackle on Baths Vesty to earn a LBP which ultimately saved us from relegation and likely oblivion. Wasps 33-6 win over Leinster at the RDS in the 2015/16 Heineken cup. These moments in time can suddenly change the course of a team favourably. Today could be that day. Sometimes a win in a game away from the main rugby public’s eye can bread confidence. Do it well and find a style then things can change through all competitions. So to the boys today, this is a chance to do exactly this. Do it, make a statement, make us all sit up and notice, and change our course to a long term successful future!
Come on you Wasps!!!
Chris
